Being happy and loving oneself can be hard enough as it is, not to mention if you're in a situation where others are putting you down. It is important to keep your head up and to be confident in yourself no matter what others may be saying about you.

Instructions:
Step1
Focus on all of the positive things in your life and less on others' negative remarks. Remembering all that you have to be thankful for will help you to be happy in the face of adversity.
Step2
Make a list of all of your positive attributes, and read the list every day or several times a day. In order to love yourself more and to stop paying attention to others' negative comments, you need to recognize your strengths and start believing in yourself.
Step3
Stand up for yourself without putting the other person down. It's never easy to be the bigger person and walk away from a situation where people are putting you down, but if you sink to their level, you will only feel worse about yourself in the end.

Step4
Surround yourself with friends and family who love you and accept you for who you are.

Step5
Talk to a close friend, family member or a counselor about your feelings so that they can help you to gain perspective on the situation. Receiving emotional support is key to loving oneself and feeling happy.

Immersion and/or getting busy  in the affairs of this world does indeed place a veil of oblivion and neglect before the vision of man, it causes him to turn his back on lofty spiritual values, so that in the end he meets death empty-handed.

One day, the Commander of the Faithful, `Ali, upon whom be peace, entered the market of Basra. He saw people utterly absorbed in themselves and the business of buying and selling; it was as if death and resurrection would never happen. This atmosphere of negligence deeply disturbed him, so he wept and said: "O servants of the world, O slaves to the worldly! Throughout the day you are busy buying and selling, swearing oaths as you do so, and your nights are spent in sleep and a state of complete unawareness. So day and night you are unaware of the hereafter and the outcome of your affair; when, then will you prepare yourselves for the journey that awaits you, and when will you gather the provisions you need? When will you begin to remember the hereafter and resurrection?" (Safinat al-Bihar, Vol. I, p. 674)

Imam al-Sajjad, upon whom be peace, said while addressing God in prayer, "O God, prolong my life as long as its days are spent in worship and obedience to You. If a moment should come when my life becomes the pasture of Satan, take my soul and bring my life to an end before Your dislike overtakes me or Your anger seizes me." ("Du'a-yi Makarim al-Akhlaq" in Sahifa-yi Sajjadiya)

At the same time, as long as man is in this world, he desires certain bodily pleasures and enjoyments. This urgent longing is a general one, not confined to a given group of people. The objects of this desire represent indeed a necessity, which is brought to an end only by death. Accordingly, God does not deprive anyone of these pleasures (in their pure and licit form), nor does He encourage anyone to turn away completely from the affairs of this world. However, He does encourage man to redirect his hopes away from the false and impermanent values of this world toward true values and genuine aspirations;
He warns him not to be deceived by the transient and ambiguous pleasures of this world or to become so attached to his desires and longings that he is deprived of lasting reward in the hereafter. In other words, man is exhorted to devote his attention at all times to seeking the pleasure and satisfaction of God.

He said: Abul Qasim Ja'far b. Muhammad reported to me from his father, from Sa'd b. Abdillah, from Ahmad b. Muhammad b. Isa, from al-Hasan b. Mahboob, from Hisham, from Murazim who reported from al-Sadiq, Ja'far b. Muhammad, peace be upon him, who reported that:

The Prophet, peace be upon him and his progeny, said: "What has happened to some people in my Ummah, who become cheerful and jubilant when Ibrahim and the progeny of Ibrahim are mentioned to them; but when I and my progeny are mentioned, they detest it and frown at it! By He Who sent me as a truthful Prophet, if a person dies after having performed the (good) deeds of 70 Prophets, but he has no liking for the authority of our Ahlul Bait, Allah will not accept his obligatory or voluntary acts of worship."

The revelation descended in our homes and from us the knowledge reached the people. . .

He said: Abul Hasan Ahmad b. Muhammad b. al-Hasan reported to me from his father, from Sa'd b. Abdillah, from Ahmad b Muhammad b. Isa, from al-Hasan b. Mahboob from Yahya b. Abdillah b. al-Hasan who said:

I heard Ja'far b. Muhammad, peace be upon him, say in the presence of people of Kufa: "It is surprising to hear people claim that they have derived all their knowledge from the Prophet, peace be upon him and his progency, and having acted accordingly, they are guided. And they believe that we, Ahlul Bait, have not derived his knowledge, nor have we been guided by him, in spite of being his family members and descendants! The revelation descended in our homes, and from us the knowledge reached the people. Do you believe that they knew and were guided, while we remained ignorant and lost? This is indeed impossible."

The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his progeny) has said: “One who considers the prayers to be insignificant and trivial is not from me. By Allah! He shall never come close to me at the pool of Kauthar.”

Biharul Anwar, Volume 82, Page 224

Imam As-Sadiq (peace be upon him) said: “Our intercession shall never reach one who considers his prayers to be inconsequential and unimportant.”

Biharul Anwar, Volume 82, Page 227

The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his progeny) has said: “Do not destroy your prayers for verily one who destroys his prayers shall be resurrected in the company of Qarun, Haman and Fir`awn.”

Biharul Anwar, Volume 82, Page 202

Imam Al-Baqir (peace be upon him) narrates: One day the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his progeny) was seated in the mosque when a person entered and began praying, but in a manner such that neither did he perform his ruku’ (bowing), nor his sujood (prostration) in a correct manner. Observing this, the Messenger of Allah commented: “(This person) pecks as a crow pecks. Should he die and the state of his prayers be as they are now, he shall surely not die upon my religion.”

Al-Mahajjatul Baidha, Volume 1, Page 34

The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his progeny) has said: “Prayer is the pillar of your religion and one who intentionally forsakes his prayer has destroyed his religion. And one who does not guard the times of the prayers, shall be made to enter ‘Wayl’, which is a valley in Hell, as Allah, the Exalted, has said: “So woe to the praying ones, who are unmindful of their prayers.”[9]

Biharul Anwar,Volume 82, Page 202

The Noble Prophet (peace be upon him and his progeny) has said: “Do not abandon your prayers intentionally for surely the obligations of Allah and His Messenger cease to cover one who forsakes his prayers intentionally.”

Kanzul `Ummal, Volume 7, Tradition 19096

The Noble Prophet (peace be upon him and his progeny) has said: “If a person abandons his prayer such that he neither desires its rewards nor fears its chastisement, for such a person I do not care if he dies a Jew, a Christian or a Magian.”

Biharul Anwar, Volume 82, Page 202

The Noble Prophet (peace be upon him and his progeny) has said: “The good deeds of one who, without any appropriate excuse does not offer his prayer until its time passes away, are annulled.” He then said: “The divide between a believer and disbelief is the abandonment of prayers.”

Biharul Anwar, Volume 82, Page 202

The Noble Prophet (peace be upon him and his progeny) has said: “The name of one who forsakes his prayer intentionally is written upon The door of Hell from which he shall (eventually) enter.”

Kanzul `Ummal, Volume 7, Tradition 19090
The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his progeny) has said: “The most beloved of deeds in the eyes of Allah are: offering prayers at the stipulated times; (then) goodness and kindness towards parents; (and then) Jihad in the way of Allah.”

Imam As-Sadiq (peace be upon him) has said: “When a person maintains his prayer and offers it at its stipulated time, it ascends in the form of a pure white light and calls out to him: “You have guarded me, may Allah protect you.” But if he does not maintain his prayer and does not offer it at its decreed time, it ascends as a dark and gloomy form and says to him: You have destroyed me, may Allah destroy you.”

Al-Mahajjatul Baidha, Volume 1, Page 340
The Lord has commanded that ye worship none but Him and that ye show kindness unto your parents ….. (Qur’an, 17:23).

The spiritual and moral duties are laid down side by side here. We are to worship none but Allah, because none is worthy of being worshipped but Allah. Then we are told to be kind to the parents. The ‘verse’ goes on to say:

Whether any or both of them attain old age with thee, wherefore, say not unto them ‘Oh’; neither reproach them; and lower unto them the wing of humility out of compassion, and say thou: “O” my Lord, Have mercy on them as they cherished me in my childhood”. And be thankful to Me and to thy parents” (Qur’an 31:14).

Allah is the Creator; he is the Helper; he provides us with the sustenance. But he has made the parents the means of that creation, help and sustenance. No wonder, in three places- in Qur’an, the commandment of obedience and thankfulness to the parents has been mentioned next to the commandment of worshipping Allah alone.

Obedience to the parents is not in conflict with obedience to God, because it is based upon the command of God. The help obtained from the parents is not against asking help from God alone, because God has made them his agents. Thanking the parents is not against thanking God, because God has ordered us to thank them; and, now, if we refuse to thank them, if will be a revolt against God.

That is why Imam Reza (A.S) told: “God has joined the orders of thanking him and thanking one’s parents in one verse. If a man thanks God, but does not thank his parents, his thanks to God also will not be accepted”.

The Holy Prophet was preparing to meet an enemy of Islam in a war. A young man came and asked permission to join in the militia. The Prophet (PBUH) allowed. Then during the conversation, the young man said: ‘I have old-aged parents who think that my presence gives them satisfaction and content and, they do not like this journey of mine’. The Holy Prophet (PBUH) at once told him to stay at home with his parents, saying: “The satisfaction which your parents derive from your presence one day and night is better for you than the fighting in the way of God for one whole year”.
Imam Ali (A.S) says one day life is pro and the other day it is against you. Live in a way that both days are congruent with you. Human’s personality should be stable, not like water that changes according to its container. A pious tolerates a burdensome situation.

The recital of ”Allahu akbar” has been customary not only in prayer but rather in many affairs and situations. During the early period of Islam the Muslims used to recite the takbir both in times of prosperity and adversity.

For example:

1. During the Battle of the Trench {khandaq}, the Muslims came across a firm rock while they were digging the trench. The pick was broken but not the rock. The Prophet (PBUH) came and crushed the rock with a blow. The Muslims recited the takbir in unison and right there the Prophet (PBUH) said: ”I saw the fall of the Byzantine and the Persian castles in the sparks and sparkles of the rocks.”

2. During the Battle of Siffin, ‘Ali (S.A)used to recite the takbir whenever he slew an enemy. By counting the number of takbirs, the Muslims would know the number of those whom he had sent to hellfire.

3. On the night when Fatimah az-Zahra (S.A)was sent to the house of ‘Ali ibn Abi Talib (S.A)(after the wedding), 70 thousand angels came down to chant the takbir.

4. Our Holy Prophet (PBUH) recited 40 takbirs over the body of Fatimah bint al-Asad (mother of Imam ‘Ali (A.S) and 70 takbirs over the body of his uncle Hamzah.

5. During the Hajj rituals, it is mustahabb to recite takbir with every stone that is thrown at the representations of Satan.

6. In the Tasbihat Hadrat Fatimah az-Zahra (S.A)whose reward is equivalent to a thousand rak‘ahs of mustahabb prayers, 34 takbirs are included.

7. When the Holy Prophet (PBUH) was born, the first sentence he was able to utter was ”Mubarakahu Allahu akbar” {Blessed is He; Allah is greater}.

8. We read in the traditions: ”Whenever a certain thing astonishes you, recite the takbir.”

9 When Mecca fell into the hands of the Muslims, the Prophet (PBUH) entered the Masjid al-Haram, pointed to the Hajar al-Aswad {Black Stone}, and recited the takbir. The Muslims also recited the same takbir which brought fear into the hearts of the polytheists.

10. During the Battle of Uhud, one of the leading warriors amog the infidels asked for a challenger. Hadrat ‘Ali (S.A)came forward and he dealt the enemy such a heavy blow that the Prophet (PBUH) and the Muslims recited the takbir with a loud voice.

11. The Holy Prophet (PBUH) said to Hadrat ‘Ali (A.S): ”Whenever you look at the crescent {hilal} or the mirror, or you encounter a problem, say takbir three times.”

12. ”Allahu akbar” was the slogan of Zayd, son of Imam as-Sajjad (A.S), who revolted against the ‘Umayyad rule.

13. During the Battle of Badr, the Prophet (PBUH) was awaiting the news of the death of Nawfal, one of the enemy chiefs. When he (PBUH) was informed that Hadrat ‘Ali (A.S)had slain Nawfal, the Prophet (PBUH) recited the takbir.

14. When Hadrat ‘Ali (A.S)came to propose for Hadrat Zahra (S.A), the Prophet (PBUH) said: ”You wait. I have to refer the matter to my daughter Fatimah. But when she was consulted, Hadrat Zahra (S.A)remained silent and did not say anything. The Prophet said: ”Allahu akbar! Sukutuha iqraruha” {Allah is greater! Her silence is her approval}.

15. During the battle against the Khawarij (Kharijites), when their commander perished, Hadrat ‘Ali (A.S)recited takbir and performed prostration, and all the people recited takbir.

16. A group of Jews embraced Islam and they said to the Prophet (PBUH): ”The previous prophets had successors. Who is the executor of your will {wasi}?” At this juncture, the following Verse of Guardianship {ayah al-wilayah} was revealed:

”Your guardian is only Allah, His Apostle, and the faithful who maintain the prayer and give the zakat while bowing down.”

The Prophet (PBUH) said, ”Let us go to the mosque.” When they arrived, they saw a beggar who was glad because Hadrat ‘Ali (A.S)while in the state of ruku‘ in prayer had given him his ring. At that moment the Prophet (PBUH) recited takbir.

17. Recital of takbir at the time of entering into the holy shrines of the infallible Imams has been enjoined. Similarly, before reading Ziyarat Jami‘ah, we recite 100 takbirs in three stages. According to the late Majlisi, the reason for all these takbirs is perhaps for us not to indulge in extremism {ghuluww} with regard to the Imams (A.S) as described in the sentences contained in the Ziyarat Jami‘ah.

18. In his judgments, whenever Hadrat ‘Ali (S.A)identified the criminal, he would recite takbir.

19. Maytham at-Tammar was hung at the order of ‘Ubayd Allah ibn Ziyad and then attacked with spears for the crime of siding with Hadrat ‘Ali (A.S). At the moment of his martyrdom, he was reciting takbir while the blood flowed from his mouth.

20. During the ascension {mi‘raj}, the Prophet recited takbir at every heaven he passed by.

21. Jibra’il (Archangel Gabriel) (A.S)was beside the Prophet (PBUH) when Hadrat ‘Ali (A.S)came in. Jibra’il (A.S)said: ”O Muhammad! By God who appointed you as the Prophet! Compared to the dwellers of the earth, the inhabitants of the heavens are better and more familiar with this ‘Ali. Whenever he recites takbir in the battles, we angels recite it along with him.”

22. During the Battle of Khaybar, when the Muslims entered the fortress, they recited the takbir so much that the Jews had to flee.

The Holy Prophet [s] said: "The one who takes prayer light is not of me. No, by Allah such a person will not reach the Haud, Pond of abundant." Man La Yahduruhul Faqih, vol. 1, p. 206

Imam Sadiq [a] said: "If there be a stream at the house of one of you in which the one washes himself five times a day, will there remain anything from the dirt over his body? Verily, the likeness of prayers is the same as the stream. The person who establishes ritual prayers clears out his sins thereby, except for the sin that takes him out from Faith he believes in." Bihar-ul-Anwar, vol. 82, p. 236

The Holy Prophet [s] said: An obligatory prayer, with Allah, is equivalent to one thousand Hajj pilgrimages and one thousand Umrah performances (voluntary pilgrimages to Ka'ba) which are right and accepted." Bihar-ul-Anwar, vol. 99, p. 14

The Holy Prophet [s] said: "Do not waste your prayers, because, surely, the person who wastes them will be raised with Croesus (Qarun) and Haman so that it is rightfully certain for Allah to put the one in Hell with hypocrites." Bihar-ul-Anwar, vol. 83, p. 14

The Holy Prophet [s] said: "Say each of your prayer as if it were your last prayer." Bihar-ul-Anwar, vol. 69, p. 408

Imam Amir ul Mu'mineen Ali [a] said: "If a praying person knew to what extent he was surrounded by His Mercy, he would never raise his head from (the state of) prostration. Tasnif-I-Ghurar-ul-Hikam, p. 175

Imam Baqir [a] said: "On the Reckoning Day, the first thing that a servant will be reckoned for is the prayer; therefore, if it is accepted, the rest (good actions) will be accepted, too, (otherwise, his other good deeds will not avail him)." Bihar-ul-Anwar, vol. 7, p. 267
At the last moments of his life, Imam Sadiq [a] called his relations and companions and told them: "Verily, our intercession never reaches the one who takes prayers lightly." Bihar-ul-Anwar, vol. 82, p. 236

Imam Baqir, the fifth Imam, [a] said: "There are ten things that when a person meets Allah the Almighty and Glorious, with them, he will enter Heaven:

Confessing that there is no god besides Allah
And that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah
Acknowledging what has come down to the Prophet [s] from Allah (the Qur'an).

Establishing regular prayers.
Giving alms.
Fasting in Ramadan.
Performing the Pilgrimage (Hajj) to the Sacred House.
Kindness to the lovers of Allah
Detachment from the enemies of Allah And, avoiding any alcoholic beverage."

Imam Amir ul Mu'mineen Ali [a] said: "For the God-fearing, prayer is a means of seeking nearness to Allah and for the weak, the Hajj (pilgrimage to Mecca) is as good as Jihad (fighting in the way of Allah). For every thing there is a levy, and the levy of the body is fasting. The Jihad of a woman is to afford pleasant company to her husband." Nahjul Balagha, saying 136

The Holy Prophet [s] said: There comes no night but that the angel of death calls to the dead in the graves and inquires what they regret for today when they have vividly seen (and known) this (the next life). Then the dead will say: "Verily, we regret and envy the believers who are in their mosques and they are praying while we are not; they give alms and we do not; they fast during Ramadan but we do not; they donate in charity what they have more than the need of their family members while we do not; ..." Irshad-ul-Qulub, p.53

The Holy Prophet [s] said: "At the (appointed) time of every prayer (salat), I hear a caller who calls and says: "O children of Adam! Keep up prayers in order to extinguish the fire you have lit against yourselves (by committing sins)." Mustadrak-ul-Wasa'il, vol. 3, p. 102

The Holy Prophet [s] said: "Be careful of the prayers, for, on the Day of Resurrection, when Allah the Exalted, will bring the servant (for reckoning), the first thing that He will ask him about will be the prayer. If one brings it completely, he will be of the people of salvation, otherwise, he will be thrown into Fire." Bihar-ul-Anwar, vol. 82, p. 202

Will Rogers, who died in a 1935
plane crash, was one of the
greatest sages this country has ever known.
Enjoy the following:
1. Never slap a man who's chewing tobacco.

2. Never kick a cow chip on a hot day.

3. There are two theories to arguing with a woman.
Neither works.

4. Never miss a good chance to shut up.

5. Always drink upstream from the herd.

6. If you find yourself in a hole, stop digging.

7. The quickest way to double your money is to fold it
and put it back into your pocket.

8. There are three kinds of men:
The ones that learn by reading.
The few who learn by observation.
The rest of them have to pee on the electric fence
and find out for themselves.

9. Good judgment comes from experience, and a lot of that comes from bad judgment.

10. If you're riding' ahead of the herd, take a look back every now and then
to make sure it's still there.

11. Lettin' the cat outta the bag is a whole lot easier'n puttin' it back.

12. After eating an entire bull, a mountain lion felt so good he started roaring.
He kept it up until a hunter came along and shot him.
The moral: When you're full of bull, keep your mouth shut.
ABOUT GROWING OLDER...
First ~Eventually you will reach a point when you stop lying
about your age and start bragging about it.

Second ~ The older we get, the fewer things seem worth waiting in line for.
Third ~ Some people try to turn back their odometers.
Not me; I want people to know 'why' I look this way.
I've traveled a long way, and some of the roads weren't paved.

Fourth ~ When you are dissatisfied and would like to go back to youth,
think of Algebra.

Fifth ~ You know you are getting old when everything either dries up or leaks.
Sixth ~ I don't know how I got over the hill without getting to the top.

Seventh ~ One of the many things no one tells you about aging
is that it's such a nice change from being young.
