PRAYERS ALONE IS NOT SUFFICIENT.........

Prayers alone are not sufficient. As many traditions from the Holy Prophet and the chaste Ahlul Bayt show, with Du'as, effort is also required. Imam Ali says about practicality and the Du'a: "He who prays but does not make effort is like the one who shoots (an arrow) without the bow-string."

So making efforts as per our capabilities is very much needed with making Du'as. We should utilize all the faculties and capabilities given by Him, and at the same time, have full reliance in His power and ask Him to bestow success in the efforts being made, as the effects of our efforts are dependent on His will. When we are sick, we must visit the doctor and take medicine, but on every step, we should first pray for His guidance and good results, as the medicine or advice of doctor is subject to His will before showing any good results

PRAYERS AT TIMES ARE NOT ANSWERED........

Prayers are not answered when they are either made with an insincere and neglectful heart, or the person's prayer is not addressed exclusively to Allah. The prayers of the persons strained with exploitation of others, transgression, and such bad deeds may also not be answered.
"Call upon your Lord humbly and secretly; surely He loves not those who exceed the limit." (7:55)
Sincerity of the heart is a fundamental condition for the acceptance of Du'as. The words being uttered by our mouth must be in harmony with the feelings emanating from our hearts.
Imam as-Sadiq has said: "Verily, Allah does not answer the memorized prayer by a forgetful heart." (Uddat ad-Dai) Imam Ali has said: "Allah does not accept the prayer of an inattentive heart."
Imam as-Sadiq quotes the Holy Prophet as having said, "Allah informed one of his prophets in a revelation: 'By My Power and Dignity! Verily I shall change into despair the hope of everyone who hoped from other than Me, and I shall dress him with the clothing of disgrace before people, and I shall remove him from My relief and bounty. Does my servant put his hope in other than Me in hardships, while hardships are in My hand; And does he expect anything from other than Me, while I am the Self-sufficient, the Munificent? In My hand are the keys of the doors while they are closed; and My door is open for the one who calls on Me.'" (Uddat ad-Dai)
Du'as reinforce our faith, give direction to life, ease difficulties, raise spirits, alleviate the burden of sins, inspire for action with hope, and most importantly, connect us to Our Lord and increase our nearness with Him.

FINAL ACCOUNTING - BE READY WITH YOUR BALANCE SHEET

"(That) day, the measure of which is fifty thousand years..." (The Holy Qur'an 70:4)
Continuing our discussion on the Hereafter, from life in the grave to life during Barzakh, we now seek to shed light upon the events that will take place on the Day that will determine our final destination – the Day of Judgement (Qiyamat).
It is the day when all human beings who ever walked this earth – believers and non-believers alike – will assemble together in a great gathering, all standing before their Lord, answerable for their deeds and beliefs in this temporary, material world. Awareness of some of the occurrences on this day will, God willing, result in our active preparation in our present lives to protect ourselves from the terrors and pains of the next.

The Trumpet of Israfeel

The first occurrence when Allah intends the Day of Resurrection to arrive will be the blowing of the trumpet by the assigned angel, Israfeel. There are numerous verses of the Qur'an and hadith that tell us that there will be two blows of this trumpet: "And the trumpet shall be blown, so that all those in the heavens and earth will be destroyed except those whom God may want that they should not die. Then the trumpet will be blown again, and lo! They shall stand up awaiting." (39:68)
Between the two trumpet blows, the entire universe will remain destroyed for as long as Allah wishes – 40 years according to some narrations, 400 years according to others.Israfeel will then come back to life, blow the trumpet again by Allah's command, and all the dead will arise in varying states. The virtuous will be uttering Allah's praises of "Praise be to Allah who has fulfilled what He promised", while the sinners will be lamenting upon coming out of their graves, "O woe to us! Who has raised us up from our sleeping place?" (36:52)

Coming out of the Grave

One of the most horrifying events of the resurrection is the time of coming out of the graves. Abdullah ibn Mas'ood says that once he was in the presence of the Commander of the Faithful, Imam Ali (peace be upon him), when he said: "For every man there are fifty halting stations in Qiyamat, and each station will be equal to the span of a thousand years. The first halting place is when coming out of the grave, where every man will have to wait bare feet and naked, and bear the agony of hunger and thirst. But the person who believes in the Unity (Tawheed) of Allah, Proclamation (Be'that) of the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him and his progeny), Accounting (Hisaab) and Resurrection, and bears testimony to the prophethood (Nabuwwat) of Prophet Muhammad while following the instructions ordained unto him, will be safe from this agony."
People will rise from their graves in different states, some rising such that their faces will be even worse than monkeys and pigs. Shaikh Tabarsi in Majma al-Bayan quotes from Bara ibn Azib who said that one day Ma'az ibn Jabal was seated in the presence of the Holy prophet in the house of Abu Ayyub Ansari. Ma'az asked the Holy Prophet regarding the eighteenth verse of Sura Naba: "The day on which the trumpet shall be blown so you shall come forth in hosts." The Holy Prophet replied, "O Ma'az! You have asked me a very horrifying question." He then began to weep and said:
"People from my Ummah will arise from their graves in different states: Some will have the face of monkeys, while others of pigs. Some will be walking upside down on their heads. Some of them will be blind and will not be able to walk. Some will be deaf and dumb and will not understand anything. Some will be in a state that their tongues will be hanging out of their mouths; filthy water will be coming out of their mouths which they will be licking with their tongues. Some people will arise with amputated hands and feet. Some will be hanging from the branches of trees made of fire. Some will be more rotten than a corpse and emitting a repugnant odor. And some will be wearing long garments of tar which will have been stuck to their skins and flesh. Those having the face of pigs will be the ones who ate unlawful (Haraam) property such as from bribery. Those walking upside down on their heads and the blind ones will be the unjust and oppressive rulers. The deaf and dumb will be the ones who prided upon their knowledge (Ilm) and worship (Ibadah). The ones licking their tongues will be those scholars (Ulema) and judges (Qadis) who did not practice what they preached. The ones with amputated hands and feet will be the ones who troubled their neighbors in the world and oppressed them. The ones hanging from the tree branches will be the ones who would backbite along with the kings and rulers (to please them), and instigated them by creating mischief. The ones emitting a repugnant odor will be the ones who acted according to their lusts and passions, and did not give Allah's rights. The ones wearing garments of tar will be the haughty and arrogant people."
Shaikh Saduq narrates a lengthy tradition from the Holy Prophet in which he said that: "A person who backbites and thus creates mischief and dissension among two people, Allah will fill his grave with fire, which will keep burning him until the day of Qiyamat. And as soon as he comes out of his grave, Allah will send a huge python that will keep biting at his flesh, and he will ultimately be thrown in hellfire."

Scrolls of Deeds (Naam-e A'maal)

We live in a world in which many things are hidden. We are not aware of what is in the minds and hearts of others, their inner conditions, their good or bad beliefs and their true motives and intentions – be they even the closest of our friends. In fact, we are not completely aware of our own selves. But Qiyamat is a day of honesty and justice; every person's scroll of deeds will be visible for all to see. It is the day where all the hidden secrets will be open and known to all.
The Lord of the Universe has, in His infinite Mercy, appointed two angels, Raqeeb and Ateeb, to serve as keepers over us, recording our every good and evil deed in this world so that we may be cautious and mindful of our each and every action. On the Day of Resurrection, we will each be given these scrolls of deeds and told to read them. There will be those whose happiness upon reading their scrolls will know no limits, while others will experience such severe pain after reading them that all the joints of their bodies will disintegrate, and blood and dirt will flow from their eyes in agony.
It is written in Haqqul Yaqeen that Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) said that when Allah will wish to take account of a believer, He will give his scrolls in his right hand, and He Himself will take his accounting so that no one else may come to know about his affairs. He will forgive his sins and replace them with good deeds, and people will look at him with awe in Paradise exclaiming, "Glory be to Allah! Verily this person is free from all sins." Indeed, as Allah tells us in the Qur'an: "Then as to him who is given his book in his right hand, he shall be reckoned with by an easy reckoning, and shall go back to his people joyfully." (84:7-9) A narrator once asked the Imam regarding this verse, as to who are the relatives of the believer in Paradise, upon which Imam replied, "His relatives will be the same as in this world, provided they are believers."
Whereas for the evil-doers, Allah will take the accounting out in the open in front of all those present on that day. He will end all communication with such people, and give their scrolls in their left hands from behind. Such people will cry out, "O what a catastrophe!" and will fall head-long into hell. These will be of those who led luxurious and careless lives with their families in this world and disbelieved in the Hereafter. It has also been narrated that Allah will tie the hands of the hypocrites (Munafiqeen) and disbelievers behind their necks.
Shaikh ibn Quwailah narrates from Imam Sadiq that he said, whoever in the month of Ramadan goes for the Ziyarat to the shrine of Imam Hussain (peace be upon him) or dies on the way while going there, on the day of Qiyamat there will be no accounting and reckoning for him, and he shall enter Paradise without fear or anxiety. Allamah Majlisi narrates from Imam Ridha (peace be upon him) in Tuhfatus Sa'imeen that he said: "Whoever comes to visit my grave from far and near, on the day of Qiyamat we shall save him from three calamities: We shall give him refuge from the terrors of Qiyamat when the scrolls of good doers will be given in their right hands and of the evil ones in their left hands, he will be safe from the punishment at the Bridge of Siraat, and we will help him during the weighing of scales (Mizaan)."

SINS TAKE US AWAY FROM THE ALMIGHTY ALLAH

A common human being is prone to committing sins, and when we do so, we make Our Merciful Lord turn from us. In this way a distance is formed between us and our Lord.
Sins take us away from Him, from the Lord Who has made mercy incumbent upon Himself, to the path of destruction and waywardness. If He did not respond to our pleas for forgiveness and mercy on us, we would further on the path of destruction.
The most Merciful Forgiving Lord assures His servants in His Book: "Say, 'O my servants who have acted extravagantly against their own souls: Do not despair of the mercy of Allah. Surely Allah forgives the faults altogether; surely He is the Forgiving, the Merciful.'" (39:53)
Therefore, we observe that Du'a has the power to make us get closer to our Lord again after being disgraced by sins. We supplicate and show repentance and He accepts us back in His fold of mercy. If we are so heedless that we even do not pray for His forgiveness, then surely we are destined to perish.

INTERESTING ARTICLE FOR OUR SISTERS IN ISLAM

The Qur’an reminds us: "And say to the believing women that they should lower their gaze and guard their modesty: that they should not display their beauty and ornaments, except what (ordinarily) appear thereof." (24:31)

How many of us think we know the meaning of Hijab so well that we could practice proper Hijab, but only if we wanted to? While the Hijab serves as to preserve one's dignity, honor, and respect alongside the safety of one's beauty and chastity, these are all secondary reasons for observing Hijab. The fundamental purpose is that of obeying Allah's orders and striving to become obedient Muslims, so that we may be blessed with the promised rewards. Whatever the situation, sisters in Islam are trying hard when it comes to practicing the Hijab, but are we trying our best?
One could argue that Muslim males should be just as cautious as women, and agreeably, they must! But it is a woman's physical Hijab factor which, when intertwined with the social Hijab factor, forms a special combination which makes her responsibility towards portraying Islam much more delicate and unique.
The social Hijab is basically the way a female presents herself, behaves, and interacts with others in public. Looking back at the example of our sisters smoking in public, it is vital for Hijabis to maintain good manners while in the presence of others, because the truth is, Hijabis are judged by society based on their actions too. As women are being constantly judged by society, they deserve every right to demand respect.
A few ways by which sisters can obtain respect from society is by being particularly careful of the way they interact in mixed gatherings with the opposite gender. More than often we see sisters in brilliant Hijab; however, the way some sisters joke and spend time with non-mahrams can only hint that a bit of flirtation (which leads to forbidden actions) is flying in the air. However, we also do have the overly-friendly sisters who do not intentionally act the way they do around non-mahrams, yet they need to realize that intentions aside, there may be room for improvement in their Hijab practice while in the company of men.
Going right down to the bone of what "good behavior" is, all we need to do is that the next time we are in public, we must stop and remember that Allah is watching us. If we remember this reality that our Lord is monitoring us at all times, there will be a guaranteed immediate improvement in our social Hijab. Out the window will go all the gossiping, coarse language, and disrespect towards elders and others, not to mention the flirting and excessive joking.
Admirable are those sisters who manage to establish such respect and dignity for themselves amongst non-Muslims that without having to explain the "rules" of our religion, people who interact with the Hijabi are able to grasp her character through non-verbal vibes and act accordingly while in her presence. For example, when someone uses a bad word around a Hijabi and there is an awkward silence, people stop what they are doing and look at the Hijabi with embarrassment and mumble an apology. Or when there is ill talk about another person behind their back, and people realize that a Hijabi is present, the topic is quickly brushed off. This is the type of dignity and respect that Islam believes women must command and deserve from society.
While the world seeks to establish identity through attractive clothing and glitzy appearances, without giving much importance to behavior, morals, social conduct, and self-respect, it is absolutely imperative for us Muslim women to maintain both the physical and social Hijab in such a way that reflects its true purpose and as a result of which we can proudly stand before our Lady Fatima Zahra and Lady Zainab (peace be upon them) on the Day of Judgment without regrets.

INTERMEDIATES ARE THOSE ALLAH HAS CHOSEN TO GUIDE

For  a better understanding of the nature of Allah's system, it can be deduced that there are physical as well as non-physical intermediates between Allah and those in the Dunya (lowest world) and that is Tawassul
Allah says in the Holy Qur'an, "Oh you who believe: be aware of Allah and seek to Him theWaseela (intermediate to reach Him)" (5:35). The verse obviously commands the believers to seek intermediates to reach Allah. Why? Because He made the perfect system, and He knows that we reach our perfection by utilizing the system appropriately. Among these "intermediates" are those Allah has chosen to guide us, such as the greatest of Allah's Creation, Muhammad (peace be upon him and his family).
"And if they had – after having done injustice to themselves – come to you (Muhammad) and asked Allah for forgiveness, and the Messenger then would ask Allah to forgive them, they would have found that Allah is Oft-Returning (to Mercy), Merciful” (4:64).

DUA IS AN INTIMATE EXPRESSION OF TAWHEED

Oct 2, '12 1:01 PM
for everyone

"Du'a is the weapon of the believer, the central axis of faith, and the light of the heavens and the earth," said the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him and his progeny).
The above statement of the Prophet makes the indispensable role of supplications come to fore in a Muslim's life. Du'a is the weapon of the believer because a Muslim's strength lies in assistance from his Merciful Creator Allah. Through supplications he establishes connections with Him and as a result, receives His favors and assistance in times of hardships and sees the Right Path clearly without difficulty.
According to traditions belonging to Prophet, supplications can avert the Divine Decree. For those who truly understand the concept of Tawheed, Du'a is an intimate expression of Tawheed which shape our sensibilities, emotions, thoughts, and concepts. For those who devote themselves to worship, Du'a is the flesh and blood of imagination. It keeps our inner selves alive and hopeful and our hearts replete with the pleasure felt in affinity with Him.

WE CAN OBTAIN THE PRIVILEGE OF AN EARLIER MEETING WITH OUR IMAM (A.T.F.S)

Allah, the Blessed, the High says in the Holy Quran: "The day when We will call every people with their Imam"
(Surah Bani Israel, Verse 71)

Allah, the High at various places, has promised guidance to the people. To fulfill His promise, He sent Prophets and Messengers (peace be on them all) one after another, who called people towards His religion, recognition and worship. When the Prophethood was completed with the advent of the last prophet Mohammad (s.a.w.a.), He introduced Imamat in the progeny of Holy Prophet (s.a.w.a.) so that people may turn to them and save themselves from straying and attain eternal happiness. The greatest and the highest bounty of Allah from amongst His bounties is the presence of Imam (a.s.). No other bounty can match this bounty. Other bounties have reached their relative position due to this bounty, without which all other endowments are imperfect.

As it is mentioned in the Holy Quran,
"This day (on the day of Ghadeer) I have perfected for you your religion and completed My favor on you and chosen for you Islam as a religion."
(Surah Maaedah, Verse 3)
"And as for the favor of your Lord, do announce (it)."
(Surah Zoha, Verse 11)

Our guidance and salvation depends upon the fourteen infallibles therefore, it is obligatory upon us that we discuss and talk about this bounty.
We would like to make an important point over here. And that is, a believer should never give preference to any bounty over that of the mastership and love of Ahle Bait (a.s.). To consider the gift of 'Mastership of Ahle Bait (a.s.)' as light or equating it with other endowments like wealth, children, business etc. will lead to our destruction and devastation.

The Islamic nations received the distinction of living with the thirteen infallibles and reap benefits from their holy lives. However, the majority breached their covenant with their Lord and the people who actually remained loyal and faithful could easily be counted on fingers.

Instead of deriving benefits from their existence, the people oppressed and tortured them no end. Their barbarism and brutality had reached to such pits that had they been told to oppress the family of the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.a.), they would have not been able to repress than what they actually did. Notwithstanding such a disgraceful demonstration of ingratitude and inhumanity, the Merciful Allah did not snatch away the bounty of the physical presence of the infallibles (a.s.) from amongst the people, till the commencement of the occultation of Imam Mahdi (a.s.).

It should be borne in mind that if Allah bestows bounty on any one without him deserving it, then this bounty of Allah is His 'Grace'. If He snatches the bounty after sometime, it is not injustice because he had bestowed it without the person deserving it. On the contrary, it will be sheer justice. It is not obligatory on Allah that He should always deal with 'Grace'. But on occasions, He deals with His grace and on others, with justice. None of His dealings are devoid of wisdom. It is not necessary that we should know the prudence behind all His actions. Whatever He does is sheer wisdom, whether we comprehend or not. We can comprehend the wisdom behind any of His action only in the light of the Holy Quran and the traditions. The intellect of men cannot comprehend the rationale behind His actions.

However, from the divine practices of Allah is the practice which has been related in Holy Quran and the traditions is:
"Surely Allah does not change the condition of people until they change their own condition ..."
(Surah Ra'd, Verse 11)
"This is because Allah has never changed a favor which He has conferred upon the people until they change their own condition ..."
(Surah Anfaal, Verse 53)
Imam Mohammad Baqir (a.s.) in the exposition of the above Quranic verses says:
"It is a definite and certain decree of Allah that when He bestows a bounty on His servant, He does not snatch it till the servant commits a sin which becomes the cause of its deprivation. This is the meaning of Allah's word "Surely Allah does not change the condition of people until they change their own condition".
(Tafseer Noor al-Saqalain, vol.2, pg. 488)
In brief, the actions of the people are the cause of Allah, the High, confiscating the bounty from them. Ameerul Momineen Ali Ibn Abi Taalib (a.s.) in the opening sentences of his famous supplication, Dua-e-Kumayl, says:
"O Allah! Forgive those of my sins which convert the bounties (into calamities)."
The Divine practice shows that Allah's Mercy takes precedence over His Wrath. Therefore, Allah seizes the bounty only when people are ungrateful and unappreciative.

Thus, we are not aware of the actual wisdom behind the occultation of Imam-e-Asr (a.t.f.s.) and according to some traditions; Imam Zaman (a.t.f.s.) will himself give the reason of his occultation when he reappears. However, one of the reasons that we are familiar with is that occultation is due to the anger of Allah on account of the ingratitude of the people. The physical presence of Imam (a.s.) among the people was the greatest bounty of Allah upon the people that was snatched from them. While explaining the importance of the physical presence of Imam (a.s.), Imam Reza (a.s.) says:
"Imamat is complete religion, the foundation of Islam, the basis of all goodness, the discipline of the nation, the path to Allah and the light through which people acquire guidance."
Imam Mohammad Baqir (a.s.) says:
"Islam is based on five principles - Namaz, Zakat, Fasting, Haj and the Mastership (of Ahle Bait (a.s.)) and the manner in which importance has been given to Mastership no other thing has been given such importance."
(al-Kaafi, vol.2, pg.18)
While explaining the following Quranic verse, Imam Mohammad Baqir (a.s.) says:
"Then believe in Allah and His Messenger and the light which We have sent down",
"By Allah in the above verse, 'light' refers to the Imams from the progeny of Mohammad (s.a.w.a.) till the day of Judgement and by Allah these are the 'lights' which Allah has sent. And by Allah, they are the 'lights' in the heavens and on the earth ... By Allah the 'light' of Imam in the hearts of the believers, is brighter than the shining sun."
(Tafseer Noor al-Saqalain, vol. 5, pg. 321)

When people disregarded this great bounty, Allah, the High concealed Imam-e-Zaman (a.s.) from their eyes. No other calamity can be greater than this concealment of Imam (a.s.) from the sights of the people. The simile of the above is like a child who is left alone in darkness to seek out his way, he is not aware of its beginning nor its end.
Resultantly, he will fall a prey for the beast or will become needy of somebody.

Imam Mohammad Baqir (a.s.) says:
"When Allah, the Blessed and the High is angry with His creation then He makes us - the Ahle bait (a.s.), distanced and away from the people."
(al-Kaafi, Chapter of Occultation, Tradition No. 31)

The presence of Imam (a.s.) among the people to solve their questions and problems is a divine grace of immeasurable magnitude. The concealment of Imam (a.s.) from the sights of the people and their helplessness to reach the Imam (a.s.) is the justice of Allah. Grace takes precedence over justice but the disobedience and ungratefulness of the Muslims has replaced the grace of Allah with His justice.

It is an irrefutable reality that the benefits that we would have enjoyed in the physical presence of Imam (a.s.), are not available now. It is a great loss and nothing can make the loss good. We only are to be blamed for the loss and nobody else.
One question arises here: The cause of occultation was due to the disobedience and ingratitude of the earlier Muslims. Then why are we suffering for their action and misdeeds? Is it not injustice?

Answer: Firstly, as we have already mentioned that if Allah has kept His Proof among the people, then it is His grace. And if He conceals Him, then it is His justice.

Secondly, we are also responsible for the occultation of Imam-e-Asr (a.s.) by our conflicts, internal fighting, sins, misdemeanors, etc. These actions are the cause of prolonging the occultation of Imam (a.s.). Imam-e-Zaman (a.s.), in one of his 'Tawqee' to Sheikh Mufeed (a.r.) writes: "If the hearts of our Shias (may Allah give them the taufeeq of His obedience) were united in their fulfillment of the covenant (of Shiasm), then certainly our meeting with them would have not been delayed".

The words of Imam (a.s.) show that our disunity not only makes him sorrowful but is also a cause of prolongation of his occultation and loneliness. In other words, our actions and sins are the cause of sorrow and grief for our Imam (a.s.). If we sincerely love our Imam (a.s.) then let all of us take this oath that we will not commit sins and disobey Allah the Almighty, as these sins deprive us of our Imam and consequently, we lose the greatest bounty of Allah, the High. On the flip side, if we keep our covenant and refrain from sins, we can undo the misdeeds of the earlier Muslims and can obtain the privilege of an earlier meeting with our Imam (a.s.).

Angering the Parents

Bismillah Arrahman Arraheem

Holy Prophet Muhammad  al Mustafā  (S.A.W.W) said:

“Beware! Abstain from angering the parents. The fragrance of Paradise is perceived even at a distance of a thousand years, but those who are disobedient to parents and those who cut off ties with relatives will not be able to smell it.”
