Too Much Hygiene May Affect Immune System
Study Suggests

Antimicrobial used in many products such as soaps, toothpaste tied to raised allergy risks in kids

Children and teens who are overexposed to antibacterial soaps that contain the chemical triclosan may be at increased risk for hay fever and other allergies, a finding that suggests that being too clean can actually make people sick, researchers say.
The study also found that exposure to higher levels of the chemical bisphenol A (BPA) may weaken an adult's immune system.
Triclosan is an antimicrobial agent widely used in products such as antibacterial soaps, toothpaste, medical devices and diaper bags. BPA, which is used to make many types of plastics and other consumer products, is believed to affect human hormones.
In this study, researchers at the University of Michigan School of Public Health analyzed data from the 2003-2006 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. They compared levels of triclosan and BPA in the urine with cytomegalovirus (CMV) antibody levels and diagnosis of allergies or hay fever in adults and children over age 6.
"We found that people over age 18 with higher levels of BPA exposure had higher CMV antibody levels, which suggests their cell-mediated immune system may not be functioning properly," study first author Erin Rees Clayton said in a university news release.
The investigators also found that children and teens with higher levels of triclosan were more likely to have been diagnosed with hay fever and other allergies.
The study findings are published in the Nov. 30,2010 online edition of the journal Environmental Health Perspectives.
"The triclosan findings in the younger age groups may support the 'hygiene hypothesis,' which maintains living in very clean and hygienic environments may impact our exposure to microorganisms that are beneficial for development of the immune system," principal investigator Allison Aiello, an associate professor at the University of Michigan School of Public Health, said in the news release.
Aiello noted that triclosan may change the microorganisms to which people are normally exposed in such a way that children's immune system development is affected.
"It is possible that a person can be too clean for their own good," Aiello suggested.

We do not only mourn and commemorate the martyrdom of Imam Hussain (peace be upon him), but we also mourn and commemorate the memory of all the other Infallibles (peace be upon them) and hold mourning programmes on their martyrdom anniversaries. However, the reason why we may put greater emphasis on the mourning and weeping for Imam Hussain (peace be upon him) is because our pure Infallibles (peace be upon them) themselves strongly encouraged us to do so.

According, to the traditions of the pure Imams (peace be upon them), the tragedy of Karbala is the most tragic event of Islam and for the Ahlulbayt (peace be upon them). It has been narrated that Imam al-Hassan al-Mujtaba (peace be upon him) said: “There is no day like your day, O’ Aba Abdullah” (al-Amali by Saduq, p. 177).  It has also been narrated that Imam al-Sadiq (peace be upon him) said: “There is no tragedy like ours at Karbala“(al-Hidayah al-Kubra by al-Khusaibi, p. 417), which means that the day of Imam Hussain (peace be upon him) is the most calamitous of all days for Aal Muhammad (peace be upon them).

Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him and his pure family) was in fact the first individual who held a mourning Majlis for Imam Hussain (peace be upon him). This fact is reported by the authentic Bakri resources (The so-called Ahlus Sunnah):

Ammul Fadl bint al-Harith narrated that she took Imam Hussain (peace be upon him) to the Prophet and put him on his lap. The Prophet’s (peace be upon him and his pure family) gaze turned away from her and his both eyes were flowing with tears. She said: “(May I ransom you) with my father and mother Apostle of God, what is the matter with you? ‘Gabriel, peace be on him, came to me’ he said. ‘He told me that my community will seek to kill this son of mine and he brought me dust made red by his (blood)." (This was reported by: al-Hakim al-Nisaburi in Al-Mustadrak alaa Al-Sahihain 176 / 3, al-Hafidh al-Bayhaqi in Dalael al-Nubouwa, al-Hafidh ibn Asakir in Tarikh al-Sham and al-Hafidh bin al-Khawarizmi 1 / 158 – 162)

Therefore, we follow the example of the holy Prophet and his pure family in mourning Imam Hussain (peace be upon them all).

We do not punish ourselves in any shape or form when we mourn and commemorate the Martyrdom of Imam Hussain (peace be upon him). This is an incorrect interpretation of the essence of al-Sha’aer al-Hussainiyah (The mourning rituals of Imam Hussain peace be upon him). When we practice the mourning rituals of Imam Hussain (peace be upon him) such as beating the chest (known as, al-Latm or Seeneh-Zani) or wounding the top of the head with a sword (known as, al-Tatbir, Qameh-Zani or Teegh-Zani), we try to recognise and feel some of the pain our master Imam Hussain (peace be upon him) had felt.

We were in fact recommended by the pure Infallibles to practice such rituals, as they ordered us to perform ‘Muwasat’ for Imam Hussain (peace be upon him), which means imitating and sharing some of his pain. Similarly, we find that Allah the Most Exalted has made the Muwasat for Lady Hajar (peace be upon her) among the rituals of Hajj and Umra; as all Muslims are ordered to perform Sa’i between Safa and Marwa to commemorate and share some of the pain and difficulties Lady Hajar went through when she ran back and forth between the two hills (Safa and Marwa) seven times in search of water for her infant Isma’il (peace be upon him). So do we really punish ourselves when we perform the Sa’i?!

Therefore, when we mourn, beat our chests and wound the top of our heads upon the loss of Imam Hussain (peace be upon him), we try to imitate and share some of his pain, and this is among the core teachings of our pure Imams (peace be upon them). As it has been narrated that imam al-Sadiq (peace be upon him) said: “The family of Fatima (peace be upon her) tore off their collars and slapped their cheeks upon the loss of Hussain son of Ali (peace be upon them), upon the likes of Hussain, cheeks must [certainly] be slapped and collars must be torn” (Wasa’il al-Shia by Al-Hurr al-`Amili, Vol. 15, p. 583).

It is ironic to see the opponents of Ahlulbayt attacking and ridiculing the mourning rituals of Imam Hussain, the grandson of the Apostle of Allah (peace be upon him) and falsely claiming that these practices are nothing but Bid’ah; when it has not only been reported in their own books that the Prophet (peace be upon him and his pure family) performed Latm but also threw dust on his head and beard upon the martyrdom of his grandson!

Narrated Salma: "I went to visit Umm Salamah and found her weeping. I asked her what was making her weep and she replied that she had seen Allah's Messenger (peace be upon him) (in a dream) with dust on his head and beard. She asked him what was the matter and he replied, `I have just been present at the slaying of al-Hussain.'” (al-Tarikh al-Kabir by al-Bukhari vol. 3 p. 324, Sunan al-Tirmidhi vol. 5 p. 323, al-Mu’jam al-Kabir by al-Tabarani vol. 23 p. 373, Mustadrak al-Hakim vol. 4 p. 19)

Furthermore, the opponents of Ahlulbayt might be unaware that their mother Aisha herself claimed that she slapped her face and beat her chest upon the loss of the holy Prophet (peace be upon him and his pure family). Al-Thahabi reported that she said: “I got up weeping, beating my chest and slapping my face along with the women". (Tarikh al-Islam by al-Thahabi vol. 1, p.154) So why do the opponents of Ahlulbayt not attack their mother Aisha for indulging in such a Bid’ah?!

In fact, mourning the martyrdom of the holy Prophets and Imams (peace be upon them) by beating the chest is a permissible act; it washes one’s sins away, strengthens his faith and keeps him ever closer to the religion and its symbols; as imam al-Ridha (peace be upon him) said: “Those who weep should weep over the likes of Hussain (peace be upon him) for surely, weeping over him does away with one's great sins” (al-Amali by al-Saduq, p. 190).

People who lack omega 3 fatty acids are suggested to get it from fish meat, other seafood or fish oil supplements but some experience fish oil capsules side effects. Omega 3 fatty acids are crucial for the human growth especially in how the brain functions and development of the nervous system. But, omega 3 fatty acids are not produced freely by our body. This nutrient simply diminishes as we age, thus each one has to acquire it from outside sources.

The sources of omega 3 fatty acids can be taken from salmon, tuna, mackerel, halibut, trout, algae, krill, flounder, certain plants and nut oil as well. Some of these said sources of the acids do not directly contain it. Take for example the fish meat, the production of omega 3 fatty acids are taken from microalgae, which are part of the fish's food consumption.
Realizing the importance of the omega 3 fatty acids, the manufacturers have introduced the fish oil capsules for those who are always on the go in this fast-paced world. However, aside from the convenience there are also fish oil capsules side effects.

The Side Effects Of Fish Oil Supplement

Some fish oil supplements have toxins in it, and that is if it comes from low quality supplements. The side effects vary on these toxins. It is important to choose fish oil capsules that are molecularly distilled oils, which means it has gone through a process that uses a machine to separate the toxins and unnecessary substances through the aid of centrifugal force. The said nutrients should be taken from fish extracted from pristine waters to avoid such toxic side effects.

Other side effects may or may not occur such as gastrointestinal discomfort. When ingested in high doses, it may result to diarrhea. Gastrointestinal reflux is another side effect that may be accompanied with frequent burping, heartburn symptoms and indigestion. Others have complained of a bloating sensation in the abdomen that is sometimes associated with pain. Other cases involved upper respiratory tract infections and swelling of nasal passages.

Another risk is the decrease in blood sugar and triglyceride level. For women there have been cases of increase in bad cholesterol level or LDL. Some people also experienced the vitamin A or D toxicity. The most common or sometimes the only feedback is the fishy aftertaste. If you experience one or any of the side effects mentioned above, you should stop the use of the fish oil supplements immediately unless it is the aftertaste that is the one that only bothers you.

It is important to consult your physician before taking any of these supplements or before administering it to children. It is also wise to just resolve in incorporating fish meat in your diet to avoid fish oil capsules side effects

Now, if you and your family want to know the best, purest and safest omega-3 fish oil capsules which I personally use myself, then visit  http://www.naturalfishoil.info and discover exactly why!

The Almighty commanded His Messenger to say to the delegation of Najran: "Come! We will summon our Sons and your Sons, our women and your women; and ourselves and yourselves...."
In compliance with this command, the Prophet brought with him, Al-Hasan and Al-Hussain, because they were the sons of his daughter Fatima, and for this they are his sons. He brought Fatima with him because she represents the women from the members of his House. But why did he bring with him Imam Ali who was neither from the sons nor from the women?
Imam Ali has no place in the verse unless he is included in the word "ourselves."
Bringing Imam Ali with him indicates that the Messenger of God considered Imam Ali an extension of his personality. By considering him so, he elevated him above all the Muslims.
The Messenger said on many occasions: "Ali is from me and I am from him."
Hubshi Ibn Janadah reported that he heard the Messenger of God, saying:
"Ali is from me and I am from him, and no one represents me but Ali."

The event of the Mubahala is important for the following reasons:
01. It proved to be a silencing lesson for all the Christians of Arabia who no longer dared any competition with the Holy Prophet (S.A.W).
02. The invitation of 'Mubahala' was directed by God, and it was in compliance with His Command that the Holy Prophet took his Ahl-ul-Bait along with him to the field of 'Mubahala'. This serves to generalize how affairs pertaining to Apostleship and the religion of God are determined by the Will of God; allowing no margin of interference from the common people (Ummat). The matter of Hazrat Ali's succession followed by eleven Imams to the office of religious leadership should be viewed in this perspective.
03. The indispensability of Hazrat Ali, Janab-e-Fatima, Imam Hasan and Imam Hussain in following the precepts of the Holy Prophet (S.A.W) could no longer be disputed.
04. That notwithstanding their childhood, Imam Hasan and Imam Hussain did nevertheless, serve as the active partners of the Holy Prophet in the field of 'Mubahala'. This yields the conclusion that age is no criteria for the greatness of the infallibles (Masoom). They are born adorned with virtues and knowledge.
05. That the Holy Prophet's act of having preferred a few obviously elevates their status above all others.
As Islam had emerged triumphantly against Christianity on the occasion of 'Mubahala', this day assumes the significance of an Eid day in Islamic history.

Imam Ali (Peace be Upon Him Said) said:

''Any Shia who commits a sin against which we had warned will not die before he is inflicted by a misfortune (punishment), in his fortune, sons, or himself, so that he will meet Allah (on the day of Judgement) guiltless. If such a misfortune does not meet all his sins, death will be very violent for him until all sins are erased.''

Why ask dead people if we can ask Allah?

Answer :In His Name the Most High,
All praise is due to Allah, may peace be upon Muhammed and his pure progeny and may the curse of Allah be upon their enemies.

The Office Answer:

Assalamu Alaikum,

According to the point made in the question, then one should not really seek doctors and medical professionals for treatment of his illnesses since Allah the Most Exalted is the one who cures illnesses and restores people to full health! “And when I am sick, then He restores me to health” (Quran 26:80). Respectively, if one is drowning in water, he should not call out for help since seeking aid from and calling upon other than Allah is Shirk!

If you, arguably, say that Allah the Most Exalted is the actual healer; He is the one who cures all illnesses and ailments but doctors and medical professionals are no more than intermediaries for cures. Additionally, calling out for help is no more than a means of rescue. Otherwise, the one drowning in water will be only rescued with the will of Allah and no one else.

Then, we say that the same is the case for the pure household of the Prophet (peace be upon them). We also say that we turn towards the pure household (peace be upon them) because they are the means through which our Duas can be answered. Otherwise, Allah the Most Exalted is the one who answers prayers and fulfils all needs.

In fact we are ordered by Allah the Most Exalted to seek the pure household (peace be upon them) as means of approach and ask them to intercede with Allah on our behalf, for Allah the Most Exalted has said: “O ye who believe, be careful of (your duty to) Allah and reach unto Him for a means and strive in His path that ye might thrive” (Quran 05:35).

The Prophet (peace be upon him and his pure family) also said: “We are the means to Allah” (al-Bihar, vol. 25, p. 23). Additionally, in the Quran we find: “And We sent no Messenger save that he be obeyed by Allah’s permission, And if when they wronged themselves they had come to thee and sought Allah’s forgiveness and the Messenger had sought Allah’s forgiveness for them they would have found Allah relenting, merciful” (Quran 04:64).

On the other hand, there are even proofs found in the Bakri books that support the permissibility of Tawassul. One of which is what Ibn Kathir – who is one of the Bakri scholars - narrates regarding the above verse (Quran 04:64):

“Sheikh Abu Mansour al-Sabbagh reported in his book (al-Shamil) the well-known story of Al-`Utbi who said: ‘as I was sitting by the grave of the Prophet, a Bedouin Arab came and said: "Peace be upon you, O Messenger of Allah! I have heard Allah saying: And if when they wronged themselves they had come to thee and sought Allah’s forgiveness and the Messenger had sought Allah’s forgiveness for them they would have found Allah relenting, merciful" (Quran 04:64).

“So I have come to you asking forgiveness for my sin, seeking your intercession with my Lord." Then he began to recite poetry:

O best of those, whose bones are buried in the deep earth,
And from whose fragrance the depth,
And the height have become sweet,
May I be the ransom for a grave which thou inhabit,
And in which are found purity bounty and munificence,

“Then he left, and I slept and saw the Prophet (peace be upon him and his pure family) in my sleep. He said to me: “
O `Utbi, run after the Bedouin and give him glad tidings that Allah has forgiven him.” (Tafsir of Ibn Kathir, vol.1, p.532).

Notice here that although the Prophet (peace be upon him and his pure family) was apparently dead, he did intercede on behalf of the Bedouin and asked Allah the Most Exalted to forgive all of his sins.

Moreover, Ibn Hanbal – who is the Imam of the Hanbali sect – narrates: “a blind person came to the Prophet (peace be upon him and his pure family) and said: 'Pray to Allah that He bestows me with sight'. The Prophet (peace be upon him and his pure family) replied: ‘If you desire, I’ll not pray, as being blind may be better for your afterlife, or I’ll pray’

“The man then chose to be relieved of blindness and the Messenger told him: 'Perform ablution (i.e. Wudu), pray tworak'at and then supplicate to Allah in this way:  'O God! Surely my appeal is to You and I turn towards You through the Prophet Muhammad, the Prophet of mercy:
O Muhammad, surely I turn towards God through you, that He uncover my sight. O God, make him my intercessor.’ The man did what the Messenger told him and his sight was restored” (Musnad Ahmed, vol. 4, p. 138).

Notice here that the Prophet (peace be upon him and his pure family) ordered the blind man to turn towards Allah the Most Exalted through him, for he ordered him to say: “O Muhammad”. Additionally, although the Prophet (peace be upon him and his pure family) was not with him at the time he recited the Dua, Allah the Most Exalted did cure him and restored his eyesight.

Furthermore, there is no difference in asking the Prophet (peace be upon him and his pure family) to intercede on our behalf during his lifetime or after his martyrdom, for he is alive and is provided sustenance. “And reckon not those who are killed in Allah's way as dead; nay, they are alive (and) are provided sustenance from their Lord” (Quran 03:169), as proved in the Al-`Utbi’s narration.

Needless to say, making Tawassul through the pure household (peace be upon them) is also permissible, for Imam Ali (peace be upon him) is nothing but an extension of the Prophet personality as stated in the holy Quran:

So whoever disputes thee about him after the knowledge that has come to you say Come, we shall call our sons and your sons, our women and your women, our selves and your selves thereupon we shall supplicate and place the curse of Allah upon the liars” (Quran 03:61).

The same is the case for Imam Hussain (peace be upon him), as the Prophet (peace be upon him and his pure family) said: “Hussain from me and I am from Hussein” There are in fact numerous narrations that state the same about each and every member of the pure household (peace be upon them).

Hazrat Muslim had taken with him his two sons Muhammad and Ibraheem. After Muslim was killed, Muhammad and Ibraheem were also arrested and put into a dungeon. It is said that Muhammad was just ten years old and Ibraheem was eight years old.
On the 20th of Dhul-Hajj in 60 Hijrah, when the jailer came to give the children their evening meal, he saw them saying their prayers. The jailer waited. When the boys had finished their prayers, he asked them who they were. When the jailer learnt that they were the sons of Muslim Ibne Aqil and the grandsons of Hazrat Ali, he let them escape. The children came out of the prison.
It was a dark night. Their first thought was to go to Imam Hussain and warn him not to go to Kufa. Everywhere they went, they found the roads blocked by Ibne Ziyad soldiers. It was impossible to get out of Kufa. Now it was almost day-break. Where could these two young boys go?
They found themselves by the side of the river Euphrates. They drank some water from the river and then went up a tree to hide for the day. Just then a woman came to the river to get water. She saw the two young boys and asked them who they were. Ibraheem said, "We are two orphans, could you please leave us alone and not tell any one that you have seen us?" The woman asked them to accompany her to her mistress who would help them.
The woman's mistress was a kind lady. After talking to the boys for a while she realized who they were. She gave them food and said to them, "You can spend the day here and I will try to help you. Unfortunately my husband Harith is working for Ibne Ziyad. He is out at the moment. You can rest in the spare room but make no noise otherwise when he comes back, he will find out you are here".
The children said their prayers and went to sleep. In the evening Muhammad woke up and started crying. Ibraheem asked him why he was crying. Muhammad said "I saw our father in a dream. He was calling out for us". Ibraheem said, "Brother, be patient. I also saw our father in a dream beckoning us to him". They both started weeping. Harith, who had come back, heard the children crying. He opened the door and asked the children who they were. On learning they were the sons of Muslim Ibne Aqil, he tied both the boys to a pillar. Harith's wife tried to stop him, but he beat her up. Harith wanted to collect the reward which Ibne Ziyad had offered to anyone capturing the children.
The children spent the whole night tied to the pillar. In the morning Harith dragged them to the river-bank. He took out his sword. Ibraheem asked him, "Harith, are you going to kill us?" Harith said "Yes!" Ibraheem said, "In that case give us time to finish our morning prayers". The two boys said their prayers. They raised their hands and cried out "Inna Lillaah wa Inna Ilay-hi Rajeeoon! O Allah we are coming to you. Give our mother courage when she hears of our death and judge between us and our killers!!"
The sword came down! There were splashes in the water. Two young bodies were seen floating away in the waters of the river Furaat.
The children stood up in prayer, their eyes welling with tears, sighing and lamenting. When they finished their prayers they raised their heads towards the sky and supplicated the following dua:
"Oh the Alive, O the Self Subsisting, O the forbearing One, O the Wise, O the Best Judge, you yourself makes the right judgment between this man and us."
Harith heard the dua and laughed in mockery. He charged towards the sobbing and trembling Ibrahim with his sword. Muhammad then said, "O Harith, my brother is younger than me and I am responsible for him. Therefore, it would be better if you killed me first." "Alright, it does not make any difference to me. Sooner or later I will have to finish my work. It appears to me you want to die first. I have no objection to that." Within a few minutes, Harith concluded his task. He severed the heads of the two children and threw their bodies in the river Euphrates where they flowed with the water. He cleansed the blood from the head and faces of the children and went on his way to meet Ubaidullah.
Ubaidullah ibn Ziyad was seated on his throne in his palace in kufah with an heirloom in his hand. People were seated on both sides of his throne. Harith was present too and with a single gesture of Ubaidullah he came forward and greeted him. From beneath his arms, Harith produced a bundle wrapped in cloth and place it on the table facing ibn Ziyad. He untied the knot and seeing the contents in the cloth the whole crowd stood baffled and dumbfounded. On catching sight of the two heads Ubaidullah rose from his throne and sat again repeating this act three times.
Ubaidullah regarded Harith and asked him, "While you were killing them did they say something to you?" "Yes, they begged me not to kill them for the Prophet (s.a.w.)'s sake, instead to sell them in the market or to bring them to you alive. They said they were only little children and that I should feel pity on them and set them free. But I told them that God did not grant me a soft heart. I granted just one wish of theirs. "Good and what was their wish?" "They wanted to pray two rak'at namaaz. I told them they could pray as much as they liked to ease their pain. I stood behind them listening and after their namaaz they started reciting a prayer. I heard them say "Oh Allah, you are the ever living; you make the judgment between this man and us." Ameer intervened, "Prayer? What prayer? What did the children say?" "Nothing important, oh ruler." Ubaidullah insisted, "Tell me what did they say." "Well they said, "O the Alive, O the self subsisting, O the Forbearing one, O the Wise, O the Best judge, you yourself make the right judgment between this man and us."
On hearing this Ubaidullah got up from his throne hitting the heirloom on Harith's head, "Incidentally, this prayer is very important because taking this name is very helpful and their prayers are surely answered." Ubaidullah ordered his executioner, "Oh Jallad, come here at once." A strong and powerful man came forward with large arms and a pink mask on his face. With a heavy sword he came swiftly to Ubaidullah bowing and saluting. "I am at your service, master." "Take this man to the same place where he killed the two children and kill him but make sure his dirty and contaminated blood does not mix or mingle with their pure blood. Now go!" Harith's face turned deathly pale and his body began to tremble and he cried and begged, "Oh Ameer, what wrong have I done? I thought I was doing all this to please you. Please have mercy on my wife and children." Ubaidullah answered, "Coincidently, I am an example of yourself. God has not placed an iota of mercy in my heart." Meanwhile Harith was dragged out of the palace by the executioner and a couple of other soldiers.
Before it was time for the Azan, Harith was beheaded and his head was kept on a sword and was moved around in the whole of Kufah. Little children pelted the head with stones shouting, "This is the head of the killer of the Prophet (s.a.w.) of Islam's offspring."

Despite his greatness and all his achievements, Imam Ali (as) was extremely humble. His humility was witnessed from the kind of house he (as) lived in; the kind of clothes he (as) wore; the kind of food he (as) ate and from his overall behaviour and character particularly after assuming his Khilafah. It is narrated that:

One day Imam Ali (as) bought some fresh dates in Kufa. He (as) tied the fruit in the lapel of his shawl and proceeded to his home. On the way, some companions met him and they offered to carry his burden. The Imam (as) said, “The right of carrying the family’s burden rests with the head of the family!” He (as) then added, “If a person of distinction carries the weight of his family’s requirements, his distinction does not diminish in any manner whatsoever”. (‘Ayn al-Hayaat)

Another beautiful incident of our Imam (as)’s humility is:

One day, accompanied by his slave Qanbar, Imam (as) entered a shop and asked the vendor to show him some cloaks. The man asked, “O Ameer al-Mumineen! What quality of cloaks do you desire to buy?” Imam (as) had realized that the vendor had recognized him, so he (as) immediately moved out of the shop and came to the next one. The owner of the next shop was away and his young son was attending to the customers. This young man had not recognized the Imam (as). So the Imam (as) asked him to give two cloaks. He (as) bought one for 2 dirhams and the other for 3 dirhams. He (as) then gave Qanbar the expensive one and retained the inferior garment for himself. Qanbar said, “O Master! Please take the better garment for your use”. Imam (as) said, “Qanbar! It is always the youth who deserve to use better things. You must therefore use the better cloak of the two! The Prophet of Allah (saww) has verily said, ‘Provide to the slave the type of garments you yourselves wear and give them the food that you eat!’”. The sleeves of Imam (as)’s cloak were slightly longer than his arms. He (as) got them cut to size and said that the cloth would be useful for making caps for the needy persons. Later on, when the owner of the shop returned and realized that the Imam (as) had purchased the cloaks from there, he came to the presence of Imam (as) and said, “O Ameer al-Mumineen! My son didn’t recognize you and derived a profit of 2 dirhams from you in the bargain. I therefore kindly request you to take back these 2 dirhams”. Imam (as) said, “We agreed to the price he quoted! The deal was struck! Also bear in mind that we are the Ahlul-Bayt (as) – whatever we give, we never take back”. (‘Ayn al-Hayaat) Such was the humility of our Imam (as).

A companion once asked Imam Ali (as), “O Maula! Please describe a Mumin to me!” Imam (as) pointed towards the wall infront of them and said,

“A Mumin is one who can order the wall to turn into gold and it would turn into gold”. When the companion looked towards the wall, he saw that it had turned into gold. He was astonished and asked, “O Maula! You did not order the wall to turn into gold and had just mentioned it to me as a trait of a Mumin – even then the wall turned into gold?”

Imam (as) replied, “This is the difference between a Mumin and the Ameer of the Mumineen”.  (‘Ayn al-Hayaat)
1 - `Ali b. `Abdullah al-Waraaq, and Muhammad b. Ahmad b. al-Shaybaani, and `Ali b. Ahmad b. Muhammad -Allah be pleased with them- narrated to us, they said: Abu `Abbas Ahmad b. Yahya b. Zakariyya al-Qatan narrated to us, he said: Bakr b. `Abdullah b. Habeeb narrated to us, he said: Tameem b. Bahlool narrated to us, from his father, from Ja`far b. Sulayman al-Basri, from `Abdullah b. Fadl al-Hashimiy, who said:

I asked Aba `Abdillah Ja`far b. Muhammad [a] about the saying of Allah, Mighty and Exalted,: "
He whom Allah guideth, he indeed is led aright, and he whom He sendeth astray, for him thou wilt not find a guiding friend." [18:17]

He replied: Indeed Allah, Blessed and High, sends astray the unjust on the Day of Qiyamah from His House of Honor, and He will guide the people of faith and righteous deeds to Heaven, just as Allah, Mighty and Exalted, has said: "
and Allah sends wrongdoers astray. And Allah does what He wills." [14:27]. And He has (also) said: "Those who believe, and work righteousness,- their Lord will guide them because of their faith: beneath them will flow rivers in gardens of bliss." [10:9]

I said: (What about) His, Mighty and Exalted, saying, "
and my success (in my task) can only come from Allah." [11:88], and His, Mighty and Exalted be He, saying, "If Allah helps you, none can overcome you: If He forsakes you, who is there, after that, (that can help you?)" [3:160]

He said: When a servant acts in obedience upon what Allah has commanded him, then his action is in accordance to the command of Allah, Mighty and Exalted, and this servant is named "Muwaffiq" (successful). And when a servant desires to enter a thing from (the acts) of disobedience, (then) Allah, Blessed and High, comes in between him and the (act of) disobedience, so he (the servant) leaves it, and this abandoning of it was by the success of Allah, the Most High. And when He (Allah) withdraws from between him (the servant) and the (act of) disobedience, He does not come between him and it until he commits it (the act of disobedience), so indeed (Allah has) abandoned him, and did not help him, and did not grant him success.

I asked Aba `Abdillah, peace be upon him, about al-Siraat (the Path) [1:6].
He replied: It is a course towards the ma`rifah (cognition) of Allah, Mighty and Exalted. And these are two paths: the path in the world, and the path in the hereafter. And as for the path that is in this world, it is the Imam whose obedience is imposed. Whoso recognizes him in the world and emulates his guidance, will cross over the path in the hereafter that spans over Hell. And whoso does not recognize him (the Imam) in the world will misstep on the path in the hereafter and will fall into hellfire.

And the proof that it is indeed the Prince of the Believers, peace be upon him, is the His saying, Mighty and Exalted be He,: And verily, it is in the Mother of the Book, in Our presence, high (la-`aliyyun), full of wisdom.
