                   ASK ALLAH (SWAT.)
Imam Ja’far ibn Mohammed as-Sadiq (a.s.) said: “ Call upon Allah and do not say to yourself that the die is cast, for there is a rank with Allah (swt) a man cannot attain without asking for it.  If Allah’s servant closes his mouth and does not ask anything from Him, nothing will be given to him.  Therefore, ask Allah (swt) for what you need so that He will give it to you.  Whoever knocks on a door and persists will be allowed in.”
The Imam (a.s.) further said:” Whoever does not ask for Allah’s special grace, will remain destitute.”
Imam Ali ibn Abi Talib (a.s.) said; “Never have this impression that Allah Almighty has opened the door of dua but has closed the door of answering dua.”
The Imam (a.s.) further said: “If Allah (swt) gives someone the blessing of dua, He will not deprive him of the answer.”
The Holy Prophet (s.a.w.a) said: “Dua is the gist of worshiping.”
FOUR SIMPLE AND EFFECTIVE DUAS FROM THE HOLY QU’RAN
Imam Ja’far ibn Mohammad as-Sadiq (a.s.) had expressed surprise that why when in need the faithful do not use the four effective duas available to them.
These are ayats (verses) from the Holy Qu’ran that are the solutions for the problem described.  The translations given here also include some sections before/after to enable better understanding.
1.     To overcome fear of authority/ruler “WA UFAWWIZU AMREE ILALLAAH  INALLLAAHA BASEERUN BIL IBAD”
“So you shall remember what I say to you, and I entrust my affair to Allah, Surely Allah sees the servants (The Holy Qu’ran Cha. Al-Ghafir or Mu’min (40) vs.44)
2.     For Rizq (sustenance) “MASHAALLAHU LAA QUWWATA ILLA BILLAH”
“And wherefore did you not say when you entered your garden: “It is as Allah has pleased, there is not power save in Allah?”
(The Holy Qu’ran Ch.Al-Khaf (18) vs 39)
3.     For Sorrows/sufferings; “ LA ILA HA ILLA ANTA SUBHANAKA INNI KUNTU MINAZ ZALIMEEN”
“And Yunus, when he went away in wrath, so he thought that We would not straiten him, so he called out among afflictions: “There is not God but Thou, Glory be to Thee; surely I am of those  who make themselves to suffer loss” (The Holy Qu’ran Ch. Al-Anbiya (21) vs 87)
4.     Other issues/needs: “ HASBUNALLAH WA NI’MAL WAKEEL”
“Those to whom the people said: “Surely men have gathered against you, therefore fear them”, but this increased their faith, and they said; “Allah is sufficient for us and most excellent is the Protector”.  (The Holy Qu’ran Ch. Aale I’mraan (3) vs 173)
“A kind word and pardon is better than charity that is followed by injury, and verily Allah is Self-sufficient, the Most forbearing.”
“The friend of Mohammed is he who obeys Allah, even though he may have no blood relationship, and the enemy of Mohammed is he who disobeys Allah even though he may have near kinship
(Imam Ali (a.s.)
“Praying and fasting is not the true worship.  The true worship is the pondering over God.

Imam Zainul Abideen (as) said the following concerning the consequences of sins.

Those sins which destroy blessings are:
Sins committed by a man who knows God, rebellion against people, and ridiculing them.
Those sins which repels man’s enjoyment of God’s bless ings are: To express one’s destitution, so sleep at the time of morning and night prayer, to underestimate God’s blessings and to complain of God.

Those sins which tears the veil of innocence are: To drink wine, to gamble, to do something to make people laugh, idle talk, to joke, to find faults with people, and to associate with those whose ideas and deeds are dubious.
Those sins which draw down tribulations are:
Not to help someone who asks for help, not to help the wronged one, to misuse enjoining the good and forbidding the bad.
Those sins which make the enemy victorious are: To oppress people openly, to commit sin openly, to consider something unlawful as lawful, to rebel against the righteous, and to obey the wicked.
Those sins which cause despair are: To despair of God’s Grace, to get disappointed of God’s Mercy, to rely on others instead of God, and to consider God’s promise as false.
Those sins which cause disgrace are:To borrow but not to pay it back, to be extravagant, to be stingy in meeting the needs of the family, to be bad-tempered, to be impatient, to be lazy, and to contempt religious people.
Those sins which reverts Dua are: To have bad intention, to be evil in heart, to be hypocrite towards brothers in faith, not to confirm brothers in faith by abando ning a positive response, and to delay the obligatory prayers.

Some of the lessons learnt from  Quran that apply to our general living!

1. Respect and honour  all human beings irrespective of their religion,
colour, race, sex,  language, status, property, birth, profession/job
and so on  [17/70]

[33/70]

10. Do not be a bragging boaster [31/18]

11. Do  not talk, listen or do anything vain [23/3, 28/55]

21. When you hear something  malicious about someone, keep a favourable
view about him/her until you  attain full knowledge about the matter.

[17/36].

24. Never think that you have reached the  final stage of knowledge and
nobody knows more than yourself. Remember!  Above everyone endowed with

Imam Hasan al-Askari, whose ancestor was the Islamic Holy Prophet (s.a.w.s.), was born in Medina to Ali al-Hadi and Saleel. His title al-Askari derives from the Arabic word Asker which means Army. Hasan's title was reflective of his living most of his life in a garrison town. He married a Byzantine princess who was the granddaughter of a Byzantine, named Nargis.
His name was Hasan and his surname was Abu Mohammad, and the well-known titles were Zaki and Askari.

House arrest

Hasan al-Askari lived almost his entire life under house arrest in Samaraa and under supervision of Abassid caliphs. Despite his confinement as a prisoner, he was occasionally allowed to go to Baghdad, although it was under guard.

Expertise

He was very knowledgeable and despite being confined to house arrest for almost his entire life, Hasan al-Askari was able to teach others about Islam and even compiled a commentary on the Holy Qur’an that would be used by later scholars.
Hasan al-Askari was like a roaring river of wisdom, which quenched the thirst of those thirsty for it. As per Khawarzami's statement, eighteen thousand men, thirsty for knowledge, benefited from Hasan al-Askari assembly. The first one out of Al-Mu’tazz’s (Abbasid caliph) court, who took an oath of allegiance for him was the famous Iranian genius and talented person named Mohammad ibn Masood Shirazi.
It is narrated that such was Hasan al-Askari's wisdom that even Kindi the teacher of Abu Nasr Farabi, was defeated and failed in discussion with him, and burnt down his book which he had written against Islam.

Hasan Al-Askari's morality

Hasan al-Askari was a gracious personality and an unmatched knowledge of the Quran More than a hundred well-known wise men remained continuously present in his assembly. During a period of sixteen years, when he lived in Iraq the territories from Syria up to Medina, particularly Iran was under his influence. Hasan al-Askari's spiritual and knowledge's influence went to the extent that it overwhelmed the court of Al-Mu’tazz and all the wise men busy in his government missionary got enamored enticed, and fascinated by Hasan al-Askari. When Hasan al-Askari traveled to Iran and crossed over the Lawasan viaQum and Rai, the people captivated and fascinated by the school of Ahaly Bayt gathered all around him and expressed their warm feelings and sentiments for him. He made a speech before the people of Lawasan and ordered them to build a mosque and declare it as their base.
This command of Hasan al-Askari proved so effective that they got busy in building seventy mosques on a single day. One of the courtiers of Abbasid government named Ahmed bin Khaqan, who was an enemy of the Ahl al-Bayt, and one day said, "I have not seen anybody in Samarra, among the Bani Hashim family, more pious, virtuous and chaste than Hasan al-Askari. If the caliphate goes out of the Bani Abbasid's hands then no one except Hasan al-Askari will be capable and fit for it. Then he said, "one day I was present with my father when Hasan al-Askari arrived there, although he was the enemy of the Ahl al-Bayt, yet he got up from his place, kissed his hand and made him seated upon his own place and sat before him like a pupil in front of a teacher and lent ears to his words.

He had one son, Muhammad al-Mahdi, who was six at the time of Hasan al-Askari's death and disappeared.

Twelver Shi’ahs believe him to be the Mahdi(atfs); a very important figure in Islamic teaching who is believed will reappear at the end of time to fill the world with justice, peace and to establish Islam as the global religion.
DEATH
Hasan al-Askari was four years old, when he was exiled to Samarra along with his father. He was placed under the caliph's observation at a point, which was the center of the armed forces.
Following the death of his father, Al-Mu'tamid (Abbasid caliph) imprisoned him. The piety and chastity of Hasan al-Askari attracted the attention of all the prisoners towards him, and made them all enticed and enchanted. The officials and agents of the caliph daily reported to the caliph as to his condition. Eventually, Hasan al-Askari was killed on the 8th Rabi’al-awwal 260
After his death, his brother Ja'far ibn Ali, who was counted as one of the helpers of the caliph, in order to keep the Imam safe from caliph, stood up to offer the funeral prayer upon the body of Hasan al-Askari. But as he was about to start the prayers, the son of Hasan al-Askari, who was a minor, came forward and said to his uncle to step aside because only an Imam can lead the funeral prayer of another Imam. After the funeral prayer Muhammed Al-Mahdi went into the house and disappeared] This was the beginning of the Minor Occultatio (ghaybat-e-sughra).
Hasan al-Askari died at the age of 28 by poison. Hasan al-Askari's funeral was attended by many people, including the Abbasid caliph Al Mu’tamid who is accused of being secretly responsible for the poisoning of Hasan al-Askari.
After the death of Hasan al-Askari, there was a sect of his followers who believed, as a result of shock and bewilderment that he did not die, but had instead entered occultation and that he was the Mahdi. According to this sect, their beliefs were based upon the impossibility of the death of the Imam without an apparent known issue (this sect did not believe in the imamate or even existence of Muhammed al-Mahdi) since the earth can never be without an Imam according to their doctrine. This sect later separated into several other groups. Among them were those who admitted the death of Imam Hasan al-Askari, but added that he returned to life after a little while, in accordance with a tradition on the meaning of the word Qa’im, i.e. one who returns to life after his death. Also among them were those who claimed that he did die and did not return to life, but that he will return to life in the future. These groups incorporated some traditions (into their thought) from some early Waqifite Shhite movements.
Hasan al-Askari is buried in the mausoleum containing the remains of his father, Ali-alHadi- The Al-Askari Mosque in SamarraIraq. The site is considered a holy shrine for the Shia’s though a bomb blast on 22 February 2006 destroyed much of the structure, and another bomb blasrt on 13 June 2007 destroyed the two remaining minarets of the Al-Askariya Mosque.

I.M.A.M. | Imam Mahdi Association of Marjaeya

In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful

Salam Alikum Dear Believers,

The Imam Mahdi Association of Marjaeya would like to send its condolences to you on the tragedy of the martyrdom of Imam Hasan Askari (as).

Imam Hasan ibn 'Ali al- 'Askari, the son of the tenth Imam, was born in 232/845 and according to some Shi'ite sources was poisoned and killed in 260/872 through the instigation of the 'Abbasid caliph Mu'tamid. The eleventh Imam gained the Imamate, after the death of his noble father, through Divine Command and through the decree of the previous Imams. During the seven years of his Imamate, due to untold restrictions placed upon him by the caliphate, he lived in hiding and dissimulation (taqiyyah). He did not have any social contact with even the common people among the Shi'ite population. Only the elite of the Shi'ah were able to see him. Even so, he spent most of his time in prison.

There was extreme repression at that time because the Shi'ite population had reached a considerable level in both numbers and power. Everyone knew that the Shi ah believed in the Imamate, and the identity of the Shi'ite Imams was also known. Therefore, the caliphate kept the Imams under its close supervision more than ever before. It tried through every possible means and through secret plans to remove and destroy them. Also, the caliphate had come to know that the elite among the Shi ah believed that the eleventh Imam, according to tradition, cited by him as well as his forefathers, would have a son who was the promised Mandi. The coming of the Mandi had been foretold in authenticated hadiths of the Prophet in both Sunni and Shi ite sources.  For this reason, the eleventh Imam, more than other Imams, was kept under close watch by the caliphate. The caliph of the time had decided definitely to put an end to the Imamate in Shi'ism through every possible means and to close the door to the Imamate once and for all.

Therefore, as soon as the news of the illness of the eleventh Imam reached Mu'tamid, he sent a physician and a few of his trusted agents and judges to the house of the Imam to be with him and observe his condition and the situation within his house at all times. After the death of the Imam, they had the house investigated and all his female slaves examined by the midwife. For two years, the secret agents of the caliph searched to the successor of the Imam until they lost all hope. The eleventh Imam was buried in his house in Samarra' next to his noble father.

Here it should be remembered that during their lifetimes, the Imams trained many hundreds of scholars of religion and hadith, and it is these scholars who have transmitted to us information about the Imams. In order not to prolong the matter, the list of their names and works and their biographies have not been included here.

Born in Madina on the 10th of Rabuil Akhar 232 Hijri ( 6.12.846 AD) Died in Samarrah Iraq on 8th of Rabiul Awwal 260 Hijri (4.1.874) aged 28 years. Period of Imamat 6 years.

Samarra (Surre Mun Ra’) was a garrison town about 60 miles north of Baghdad. River Euphrates flows in the middle of the town, and because of the surrounding hills a cool breeze keeps the area cooler in comparison to Baghdad. The word ‘Asker’ in Arabic is used for army. Our 11th Imam’s title became known as Askari, the one who lived all his life in a garrison town.

There is another story related with this name by many historians. Once the Caliph called him in his palace and ordered his army to march past before him. The Caliph wanted to boast or to impress the Imam of his power or to dissuade the Imam from any thoughts of revolution against the Abbasid Caliphate. When the march past was over, Imam asked the Caliph to gaze between two of his fingers. What the Caliph saw was a huge army of lancers and swords men marching past, a much bigger crowd than the Caliphs army. He was astonished at this miracle and named him Askari, i.e. the man with a big army.

Imam Hasan al Askari’s (AS) life from childhood to adulthood was spent in this house where his father Imam Ali Naqi (AS) was to remain under house arrest. But despite this close guard on the Imam, he conducted his duties as Imam from inside the house. He taught people Qur’an and instructed his followers the true teachings of Islam as taught by the Prophet of Islam and his Ahlulbayt. In fact Imam Hasan al-Askari wrote a complete Tafseer of the Qur’an which was mentioned by many scholars, historians and exegetes, including Kulaini and Saduq.

Imam’s life in Samarrah was not in peace even under house arrest. From time to time he was taken to Baghdad, questioned and put in prison there. On one such occasion, the Imam was taken by the Turkish guards to Baghdad where he was kept in prison during the short reign of the Caliph al-Muktadi and al-Mu’tamid afterwards.

While he was a prisoner in Baghdad there was a severe draught. Rain had not fallen for some time and crops were drying up. People were facing a famine. They did not know what to do. A Christian priest came to the rescue. He lifted his hands in prayer and rain fell. The Caliph became concerned lest for this reason people would forsake Islam and become Christians. When the Imam was consulted, he said that when people assembled to see the so called miracle performed by the Christian priest, he would remove their doubts. The Imam was allowed to leave the prison to go where the crowd assembled to see the miracle performed by the priest.

Imam stood there with the crowd and when the priest raised his hands for pray and rain began to fall, Imam told one of his companions to seize the hands of the priest and bring the piece of bone hidden in his hands. When this bone was brought before the Imam, he said that it was the bone of a Prophet of God. It was the effect of this holy bone when lifted in prayers to God that brought God's mercy and brought rain to the land. This way the Imam lifted the doubts from the minds of the people. After this the Imam himself spread his prayer mat and performed two Rak’ats of prayers then lifted his bare hands to God for rain to come to the land and wipe out the draught. The Imam’s prayers were heard by the Almighty and rain fell so much that the land became fertile again and crops began to grow. (Kulaini, Akhbarus Alam)In recognition of this service the Imam was allowed to leave the prison in Baghdad and live in his house in Samarrah, still under house arrest. He was still not allowed to go to Madina.

A detailed account of the marriage of Imam Hasan al-Askari (AS) was told by Majlisi in Biharul Anwar. His father Imam Ali Naqi (AS) entrusted this important matter to his friend Bashir ibn Sulaiman.First the Imam wrote a letter in the script of ‘Rum’ and sealed it with his own noble seal. He placed the letter in a red purse, with 220 Dinars and then said to his friend, “Take this letter and go to Baghdad. Go to the ferry at the River Tigris when the boats from Syria are being unloaded.

Look out for the ship owner whose name is Amr. Observe when he exhibits a slave girl who would be wtwo silk garments and a veil to protect her from being seen or handled by the buyers. You will hear her call out in the language of ‘Rum’, ‘even if you have the wealth and glory of Solomon the son of David, I can never have affection for you, so take care lest you waste your money in purchasing me.’ And if a buyer approaches her, she will say, ‘ Cursed be the man who unveils my eyebrow’ Her owner will then protest, ‘But what recourse have I, I am compelled to sell you? You will then hear the slave answer, ‘ Why this haste, let me choose my purchaser, that my heart may accept him in confidence and gratitude.’

“ You are to go then O Bashir, and tell the trader Amr that you have a letter written in the script of Rum by a certain nobleman, and that this letter shows his kindness, appreciation and liberality. You must give this letter to the slave girl to read, that she may agree to be bought by the man who has passed this letter to you.

Bashir reported later, “ When I carried out these instructions and the girl received the letter, she began to cry as she read the letter. Then she said to Amr, “ Sell me to the writer of this letter, for if you refuse I would surely be very unhappy and you will never be able to sell me to anyone else.” I therefore talked over the price with Amr, until we agreed on the 220 Dinars my master had given me. When I paid the money, and received the girl. She came with me without protest. In fact she was smiling and looking very pleased. In her excitement she took the letter from the Imam Ali Naqi (AS) from her pocket and kissed it, put it on her eyes and then put it back into her pocket. I told her I was amazed that she should act this way when as yet she did not know the writer. She answered, “May the descendant of the Prophet dispel your doubts.” Afterwards she gave me the following account of herself.

“ I am a princess, the granddaughter of the Emperor of Rum. My mother was a descendant of the disciple Simon, the vicegerent of Jesus. My grandfather the Emperor was anxious to marry me to his nephew. I was 15 years old. At his castle he gathered a great assembly, including 300 monks and hermits, 700 of the nobility and 4000 of the officials of the army. I had a special throne made for me where I sat with the man I was about to wed. Christian priests were ready to pay us honour.

They opened the Injil (Bible), and immediately all the images around us fell to the ground and broke. My cousin also fell down on the ground and fainted. All the great officials were overcome with fear and said,” O’ king, preserve us from witnessing this ill-fated day, for this sort of thing is a proof of the decline and disappearance of the Christian religion as we know it.” At this my grandfather was very angry and he ordered that all images should be brought back and put in their places. Once again they all fell down and a great storm blew the lights all around. At this second occurrence people were frightened and left the assembly hall. My grandfather fell himself and the whole occasion was cancelled for some other day.

One night after this I saw a dream, in which Jesus appeared with his disciples at the palace where the throne was erected. Their they built a pulpit of light, and behold, Muhammad, peace be upon him, and his wasi Ali(AS) and all his exalted descendants came into the palace. Jesus went forward to embrace Muhammad,(SA) who said, O’Spirit of God, I have come to seek the daughter of your Wasi Simon for my son Hasan al-Askari.” Jesus(AS) looked to Simon who was with him and said, “ Nobility and glory has come to you in this chance to unite mercy with that of the family of Muhammad(SA).” To this Simon assented and all of them assented to the pulpit of Light while Muhammad(SA) conducted the wedding service.

After the dream, when I woke up I was afraid and dared not repeat the story to my father or my brothers for fear that they would kill me. While I kept the secret, love of Hasan al-Askari found its place in my heart and constrained me to give up drinking wine and I did not want to eat. As a result of not eating I grew thin and became ill. All possible treatment was available for me but without success. In the end my father told me, “ O’you who have seen a light, tell me what is wrong with me. The doors of pleasure are closed for me. A voice replied, " if you set some of your prisoners free, it is possible that Jesus and his mother may help you.” I told my father of this dream and requested that some of the prisoners should be set free. My father granted my request, and after that I took food and felt better. A few days passed and I had another vision, when Fatima the daughter of the Prophet and Mariam, the mother of Jesus came to me and explained that Hasan al-Askari could not come to me unless I should become a muslim and declare, that there no God but One God and Muhammad is the last apostle of God. This I accepted and after that I saw Hasan al-Askari in my vision.”

But how did you come to fall among the prisoners? asked Bashir. She replied, “ Hasan al-Askari told me that my father was planning to send an army against the Muslims and that I should disguise myself and some of my women servants and arrange to go along with the army. I did this and before long some of the muslim army guards captured us, and now you see how it all turned out.”

Bashir related that when they reached Samarrah he went to the Imam Ali Naqi (AS) who received the party gladly. The Imam asked the girl if he should give her Ten Thousand Dinars or a bit of good news. When she chose the latter, he informed her that she was to be given to his son Hasan al-Askari as she has seen in her dreams and that she was to be the mother of the one who was to cause justice to reign upon the earth. She was then committed to Ali Naqi’s sister Hakima who was to look after her.

Such is the account of the wedding of Hasan al-Askari to Nargis Khatoon as Majlisi recorded it in such detail in Bihar-al-Anwar.(The same account was found in Shaikh Tusi’s book ) A few days later the wedding took place between Imam Hasan al-Askari and Nargis Khatoon, the grand daughter of the Emperor of Rum.

Imam Hasan al-Askari(AS) lived a short life, only Twenty Eight years and in this short life he had to endure great sufferings by the hands of the Abbasid caliphs. But in spite of all that suffering and confinement under house arrest in Samarrah, many students of Islam benefited from his God gifted knowledge and later became scholars in their fields. He discussed with agnostics of that age many times about the existence of God and the reasons for the necessity of the Prophets and Imams and many atheists changed their minds and converted to Islam. One of those was Ishaq al-kindi who was writing a book about contradictions in Qur’an.

Imam invited some of his students and taught them lessons from the Qur’an. These students of Al-Kindi confronted their teacher and rejected his arguments about the contradictions in the Holy Book. Al-Kindi realised that these arguments could not have come from the brains of these young students. He asked them about the secret of their extensive knowledge of the Qur’an. In the end they confessed that Imam Hasan al-Askari taught them. Kindi himself became the disciple of our Imam, burnt his own writings on atheism and later wrote many treatises on Islam.

Imam Hasan al-Askari (AS) also dictated many Traditions of the Holy Prophet and recorded many explanations of the verses of the Holy Qur’an.

One of the famous traditions people learnt from Imam Hasan al-Askari was, “ The wine drinker is like an idolater.” Ibn al Jawzi in his book “Tehrim al Khamr” mentioned this tradition from the Imam from the most reliable narrators of Hadith.

Historians have noted many names of the Imam’s students who became scholars of their time One of the famous students of the Imam was Abu Ali al-Hasan ibn Khalid who prepared a commentary of the Holy Qora’an which should be considered the work of the Imam himself. The Imam used to dictate its contents to Abu Ali who went on writing the commentary. Scholars indicated that the book consisted of 1920 pages.
In spite of the fact that the Imahad never given any cause for concern to the Caliphs of his time, their guilt in this matter was so great that they did not leave these pious personalities in peace. If they had no fear of their throne they were afraid of the excellence and knowledge of the Imams. In the case of Imam Hasan al-Askari, the same type of jealousy led to the poisoning of the Imam to end this life of a saint whose only activity was to teach Qora’an as the Prophet and his Ahlulbayt taught before him. During the rule of Al-Mu’tamid poison was given to the Imam mixed in some fruit and he died on 8th Rabi-al-Awwal 260 Hijri. He left only one son, whose name was Muhammad who was only five years old when his father died.

The Caliph Al- Mu’tamid himself attended the funeral prayer. When they all lined up and were ready to commence the prayers, Imam Hasan al-Askari’s brother Jaafar stood in front of the people to lead the prayer. Before he could commence the prayer, a five year old boy came out of the house, went near his uncle. Shook his mantle and told him, “set aside uncle, only an Imam can lead the funeral prayer of an Imam”. His uncle Jaafar stepped aside and this five year old boy lead the prayers. Immediately after the end of the prayer he went inside his house and was not seen by his pursuers, lead by the caliph Mu’tamid himself.

Our Eleventh Imam was buried in the same house where he had died, by the side of his father Imam Ali Naqi (AS). By the passage of time, the place was transformed into a great mausoleum and pilgrims from all over the Islamic lands came to pay their homage to the two Imams of Ahlulbayt who were buried there.

Jackson Heights, NY community celebrates prophet's birthday

NABE
About 60 religious leaders, legislators and residents gathered at a mosque and a restaurant on 72nd Street in Jackson Heights Saturday for an interfaith celebration of Islam’s Prophet Muhammad’s birthday. Run by anti-terrorist Imam Mohd Qayyoom, the event drew speakers and worshipers who spoke out for harmony between all religions and peace. “All faith has one goal of peace,” Qayyoom said. The celebration was held throughout the day at Qayyoom’s mosque, at 37-46 72nd St. in Jackson Heights, and the Pakistani eatery Gourmet Sweets and Restaurant, at 72-08 Broadway, across the street. While the prophet’s birthday, determined by the Islamic lunar calender, is considered to be Feb. 15 this year by Sunni Muslims and Feb. 20 by Shi’a Muslims, according to their respective traditions, celebrations can occur throughout the Islamic month of Rabi’ al-awwal, Qayyoom said.

University of California Irivine faculty say "Dismiss case against Muslims"

Calling criminal charges against 11 Muslim students "detrimental to our campus," 100 faculty members at UCI signed a letter Wednesday to Orange County District Attorney Tony Rackauckas urging him to dismiss the case. "At the very least, we urge the District Attorney and the students to agree to resolve the charges with the students performing community service and a short probation, after which the matter will be expunged from the students' records," the letter reads. Rachel Roberts, left and Estee Chandler with the Jewish Voice for Peace, add their signatures to the list of approximately 5000 signatures of supporters of the 11 UCI students facing misdemeanor charges for disrupting the speech of a visiting Israeli diplomat at UCI last year. Eleven students were charged last Friday with conspiring to disrupt a speech last year, capping a grand jury investigation. The 11 were arrested, cited and released in the Feb. 8, 2010, incident during the talk by Michael Oren, the Israeli Ambassador to the U.S. Meanwhile, labeling the charges "unprecedented," an Oakland-based Jewish group Wednesday turned in to the district attorney petitions signed by more than 5,000 supporters of the students.

Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak Likely to Step Down Today

CNN
Government leaders around the world watched events unfold in Egypt Thursday amid reports that embattled President Hosni Mubarak could step down from power. CIA Director Leon Panetta told the U.S. Congress there was a "strong likelihood that Mubarak may step down this evening," an assertion that Egyptian Information Minister Anas el-Fekky flatly denied. Demonstrators in Egypt were jubilant at reports that Mubarak would address the nation in a live televised address Thursday evening, according to CNN Correspondent Ivan Watson in Cairo, Egypt. Meanwhile, other countries in the region remained tight-lipped in anticipation of what could transpire in the coming hours.

Iraq Speaker fails to meet Al Sistani

Grand Ayatollah Ali Al Sistani did not meet with Iraqi Parliament Speaker Ousama Al Nujaifi due to the absence of prior arrangement. Al Nujaifi met with another religious authority Sheikh Isaac Al Fayad and affirmed that he will visit Grand Ayatollah Al Sistani in the future. Iraqi Parliament Speaker acknowledged in another context that there were major human rights violations in Iraq on all levels, yet, he ruled any coup or revolution in return. Al Nujiafi called on Iraqis to have faith in the government and be fully cooperative. Al Nujaifi reassured provincial councils in a press conference that occupational employment ranks introduced to the revised budget will be allotted for provinces according to their demographic rate. Iraqi observers meanwhile believe the prerogatives granted to the people are an attempt by the government to inhibit potential crisis.

India and Pakistan to hold first formal peace talks since Mumbai attacks

Officials announced the talks, to be held by July, would include the future of Jammu and Kashmir, disputes over the sharing of water resources from Himalayan rivers, and counter-terrorism co-operation, including Pakistan's progress in bringing the alleged planners of the Mumbai attacks to trial. Indian commentators expressed surprise at the announcement and said New Delhi had abandoned its earlier demand for Pakistan to take action against the Mumbai plotters and to stop its territory being used as a base for terror attacks on India before wider talks could be held. It would be seen as a victory for Pakistani diplomacy, they said. During the Mumbai strikes, 10 ten commando-style gunmen left 166 dead and brought the nuclear rivals to the brink of war. There have been several meetings between the two countries prime ministers since the Mumbai attacks, but relations remained tense as Manmohan Singh, the Indian prime minister, and other ministers accused the elements in Pakistan's security establishment of assisting the Mumbai plot.

Japanese police keep watch on Muslims

Reports reveal that Japanese police have been conducting a close surveillance of the Muslim community living in the East Asian country. Internal police documents leaked onto the Internet indicate that Japanese law enforcement has been collecting detailed personal information about Muslims living in Japan, a Press TV correspondent reported on Wednesday. The information has also been shared with the US government at the request of American authorities under the pretext of anti-terrorism cooperation. A Japanese Muslim man said that two police officers watched him every Friday as he went to the mosque for Friday prayers. Professor Akira Usuki, who is one of Japans' most respected scholars on the Arab world, has criticized the Islamophobia that is rampant “not among people but among Japanese police and establishment.” “Generally speaking, the Japanese police watch the Muslims carefully and they gather information about them in a daily life. I doubt the Japanese government will need such information,” Usuki said. Although Japan may not be the first nation that comes to mind when one thinks about the issue of Islamophobia, the subjective view seems to have penetrated even to this far corner of East Asia. There are more than 100,000 Muslims that live and practice their faith in Japan.

Nigeria to commence Islamic banking soon

The CBN governor, Mr Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, on Thursday in Abuja said that that Islamic banking would soon begin in Nigeria. Sanusi said this at an award dinner to mark the 20th anniversary of the Abuja Muslim Forum. He noted that the non-interest banking system will help improve and develop the nation’s economy. According to him, other countries such as the United Kingdom and South Africa are already successfully operating the system. He called on Nigerians to help make the project a success. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Sanusi was one of the recipients of the Forum’s award. Earlier, the Amir, Abuja Muslim Forum, Mr Musa Aliyu, said the award was meant to recognise and celebrate Muslims who have contributed to the development of Islam and the nation.

More Conversion to Islam in Kenya

Conversion to Islam has significantly increased in recent years and the new Muslims of the tribe regard the common points between the religion and their culture as the main reason for them to be attracted to Islam.  Islam was first introduced in this region in 1986 by Mohammad Ilah Sakangeyi a native of Maasai Tribe. Hussein Allah Daruni, head of the Magura Disrict and Abdullah Lilon, former governor of Kisii region are among the eminent figures who have converted to Islam recently.

The importance of remembering each other in duas......
It has been reported:
Allah (SWT) said to prophet Musa (AS): "Call upon Me with a tongue you have not sinned."
Hazrat Musa (AS) replied: "How can I?"
Allah (SWT) said: "Call upon Me with the tongue of others.”

“There are five Duas which are answered by Allah (SWT):
1)  Dua recited by a Just leader and Imam
2)  Dua recited by one who has been wronged about whom Allah (SWT) says:
"I will take your revenge even after the passage of time."
3)  Dua recited by a righteous son for his parents.
4)  Dua recited by righteous parents for their children.
5)  Dua recited by a believer for his brother in faith, for Allah (SWT) says:
"It will be as effective for you as for him.”

Imam Ali Ibn Hussein (AS) has said:

“Charity during night extinguishes God’s wrath.” The Imam said to Abi Hamzah:

“If you wish God to make you die cleansed, and to forgive you your sins when meeting Him, do good, give charity secretly and observe ties of kinship, for, these three acts, make you live long, remove poverty, and ward off seventy kinds of bad deaths.” The Holy Prophet (SAW) was asked: which charity is the best? The Holy Prophet (SAW) said:

“Charity to kinsfolk who hide their enmity from you.” Imam Sadeq (AS) was asked: To whom should we give charity, to the beggar or needy relatives

The Imam said:

“Give charity to relatives, for it has greater reward.” It has been reported on the authority of Imam Baqer (AS):

“If you wish to give charity one day before Friday, leave it off for Friday.”

* * *

“Whoever quenches the thirst of another man, God will quench his thirst from intact wine.” Imam Sadeq (AS) has said:

“The best kind of charity is to quench thirst. Whoever quenches the thirst of others whether human or quadruped, on the Day of Judgment when there is no shades save His shade He will set a shade for him.” Extras of life is a heavy burden on the shoulder of man, for what is unlawful in this world will entail punishment and what is lawful is being reckoned. Abdul Ibne Omar says: I heard the Holy Prophet (SAW) saying:

“My ummah are classified into three groups”:

“The first groups are those who do not like to amass wealth; they do not attempt to gain much wealth nor hoard it; they are content with what keeps them alive and what covers their nakedness. Whatever ensures their Hereafter is sufficient for them. These groups are secure and there is no fear for them.”

* * *

“The second group are those who wish to obtain wealth in a legal way so as to look into the affairs of their relative; do good to their brethren, and help the poor. For them, it is easier to eat stone than to gain a Dirham illegally or not to give it to someone who is entitled to it until the day of death and save it. If any argument is made against them on the Day of Judgment, they will be punished, and if forgiven, they will be secure.”

* * *

“The third group like to amass wealth; lawful and unlawful wealth are indifferent to them; they abandon what is obligatory and are extravagant; even when they do not spent, it is out of envy and hoarding; these are people the reins of whose hearts are in the hands of the world so as to enter Hell as a result of their sins.” The Holy Prophet (SAW) has said:

“No one is allowed to gain wealth illegally and to give it as charity and to be rewarded. If he spends of that wealth, it has no blessings for him and if the wealth survives him, it will put him in Fire.” Imam Ali (AS) being asked about the worst kind of wretchedness, said:

“Whoever abandons the world for the sake of world; he has lost both the world and is a loser in the Hereafter. Whoever performs prayer and keeps fast in order to be seen by people he is deprived of world and only labor is left for him, but if he had devotion in it, he was entitled to reward. Such a person enters the scene of the Day of Judgment while he thinks he has with deeds which add to his good deeds whereas he finds it gone with the wind.” Imam Ali (AS) being asked to whom belongs the utmost degree of regret, said: “One who sees his wealth in the scales of others while he enters Hell because of unlawful wealth and his heirs will enter paradise because of the charity they have given.” Asked how this is possible, Imam Ali (AS) said:

“A brother told me the following story: I went to see a man who was giving up the ghost. He said to me: I have a hundred thousand Dirhams in this coffer the alms of which I have not given. What shall I do with it? I said: What have you amassed it for? He said to pay the tax levied by king, to puff before relatives, for fear of poverty and for a rainy day. The Imam said: The man had hardly left the house when he died.” Then the Imam (AS) said:

“Praise is due to Allah who took him from this world with reproach while he amassed the wealth illegally and had withheld the right of one who was entitled to it, he had tied up the purse too, the wealth for the amassing of which he had traversed deserts, cities and seas. O you who dwell in this world! Do not ever be deceived as that man was deceived yesterday. Surely the worst regret on the Day of Judgment belongs to one who sees that his wealth is in the scales of other. They have gone to paradise but he himself will go to Hell for the sake of his wealth.” Imam Sadeq (AS) has said:

“More regretful than that man is one who has amassed a huge wealth with labor but he has ruined it with alms and charitable deeds, has spent his youth and power in prayers but has considered no right for Ali Ibn Abu Taleb (AS), has not deemed a position for him in Islam and has considered as superior those who were inferior to him in rank, who never ponder on the Imams and whenever they reasoned with the Quranic Verses or Hadiths, he would not accept, because he had gone astray. This person has the maximum regret. He enters the scene of the Day of Judgment while his charitable deeds have taken the shape of vipers biting him, and his prayers taking the shape of the angels, of Hell driving him to Hell.”

“He will say: Woe to me, was I not among the worshippers? Was I not among alms-givers? Was I not one who had no covetous eye on the wealth of people and their women? Why then I have been so much afflicted?

“He is said: O wretched one! Your deed will not benefit you, for you have ruined the greatest divine doctrine after belief in god and prophethood. You have not recognized the friend of Allah, Ali Ibn Abi Taleb (AS) as he deserved and you have given in to the enemy of God instead. If you had prayed from the beginning of the world to the end of it, if you had spent all the wealth of the world instead of these deeds, you would not have gained anything save becoming more aloof from God and getting nearer to His wrath.”

It has been reported on the authority of the Holy Prophet (SAW):

Avoid too much wealth, for in the past a man had amassed a great fortune for his children. When the angel of death appeared at his house disguised as a poor man and knocking at the door, the doormen opened the door. The angel of death said: Tell your master to come out; I have some business with them. They said: Shall our master come to a person like you? With this answer they kept the man from the door.

The angel of death came with the same appearance once again saying: Tell your master to come out and inform him that I am death angel. Hearing this, the master of the house was overwhelmed with fear. At this time he sat down and said to his doormen: Speak to him softly and say; May God blesses you, perhaps you are looking for someone else. The angel of death said: No and entering the house, he said to the master of house: make your will, for I have to take your life soon.

At this moment, the family members started weeping. The man rose up and had all the coffers of gold and silver opened and listed and then turned to the coffers swearing at them saying; May God curses you! It was you who made me forget God. You made me to be negligent of the Hereafter until they have given the news of my death.

At this time God made his wealth speak saying: Why do you swear at me? You are to blame! You were mean in the eyes of people! It was me who raised your position. Was it not you who were present at royal courts and although there were qualified person there but they would let you in before others? Was it not you who proposed the girls of wealthy people along with pious men but they would accept only you? Had you spent me on charitable deeds, could I have prevented you?

Had you spent me for the cause of Allah, you would never have your wealth decreased. Now that you are in such a state you are swearing at me while you yourself are to blame! We both have been created from dust. I returned to that dust but you go to the sins you have committed through me. Then the angel of death said: Wealth speaks to its master in this way!

The Holy Prophet [s] said: "The one who takes prayer light is not of me. No, by Allah such a person will not reach the Haud, Pond of abundant." Man La Yahduruhul Faqih, vol. 1, p. 206

Imam Sadiq [a] said: "If there be a stream at the house of one of you in which the one washes himself five times a day, will there remain anything from the dirt over his body? Verily, the likeness of prayers is the same as the stream. The person who establishes ritual prayers clears out his sins thereby, except for the sin that takes him out from Faith he believes in." Bihar-ul-Anwar, vol. 82, p. 236

The Holy Prophet [s] said: An obligatory prayer, with Allah, is equivalent to one thousand Hajj pilgrimages and one thousand Umrah performances (voluntary pilgrimages to Ka'ba) which are right and accepted." Bihar-ul-Anwar, vol. 99, p. 14

The Holy Prophet [s] said: "Do not waste your prayers, because, surely, the person who wastes them will be raised with Croesus (Qarun) and Haman so that it is rightfully certain for Allah to put the one in Hell with hypocrites." Bihar-ul-Anwar, vol. 83, p. 14

The Holy Prophet [s] said: "Say each of your prayer as if it were your last prayer." Bihar-ul-Anwar, vol. 69, p. 408

Imam Amir ul Mu'mineen Ali [a] said: "If a praying person knew to what extent he was surrounded by His Mercy, he would never raise his head from (the state of) prostration. Tasnif-I-Ghurar-ul-Hikam, p. 175

Imam Baqir [a] said: "On the Reckoning Day, the first thing that a servant will be reckoned for is the prayer; therefore, if it is accepted, the rest (good actions) will be accepted, too, (otherwise, his other good deeds will not avail him)." Bihar-ul-Anwar, vol. 7, p. 267
At the last moments of his life, Imam Sadiq [a] called his relations and companions and told them: "Verily, our intercession never reaches the one who takes prayers lightly." Bihar-ul-Anwar, vol. 82, p. 236

Imam Baqir, the fifth Imam, [a] said: "There are ten things that when a person meets Allah the Almighty and Glorious, with them, he will enter Heaven:

Confessing that there is no god besides Allah
And that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah
Acknowledging what has come down to the Prophet [s] from Allah (the Qur'an).

Establishing regular prayers.
Giving alms.
Fasting in Ramadan.
Performing the Pilgrimage (Hajj) to the Sacred House.
Kindness to the lovers of Allah
Detachment from the enemies of Allah And, avoiding any alcoholic beverage."

Khisal by Saduq, p.432

Imam Amir ul Mu'mineen Ali [a] said: "For the God-fearing, prayer is a means of seeking nearness to Allah and for the weak, the Hajj (pilgrimage to Mecca) is as good as Jihad (fighting in the way of Allah). For every thing there is a levy, and the levy of the body is fasting. The Jihad of a woman is to afford pleasant company to her husband." Nahjul Balagha, saying 136

The Holy Prophet [s] said: There comes no night but that the angel of death calls to the dead in the graves and inquires what they regret for today when they have vividly seen (and known) this (the next life). Then the dead will say: "Verily, we regret and envy the believers who are in their mosques and they are praying while we are not; they give alms and we do not; they fast during Ramadan but we do not; they donate in charity what they have more than the need of their family members while we do not; ..." The Holy Prophet [s] said: "Be careful of the prayers, for, on the Day of Resurrection, when Allah the Exalted, will bring the servant (for reckoning), the first thing that He will ask him about will be the prayer. If one brings it completely, he will be of the people of salvation, otherwise, he will be thrown into Fire." Bihar-ul-Anwar, vol. 82, p. 202

Abubasir said that he visited Umm Hamidah (Musa-ibn Ja'far's [a] mother) in order to console her for the death of Ja'far-ibn-Muhammad [a]. Then she wept and he wept because of her weeping. After that, she said: "O' Aba Muhammad! If you had seen Ja'far-ibn-Muhammad when he was on his death-bed, you would have observed a wonderful thing: he opened his eyes and said to gather all of his relatives." Then, she continued saying that they gathered them all with no exception. Then he [a] looked at them and said: "Verily, our intercession does not reach the one who takes prayers lightly". Wasa'il-ush-Shi'ah vol. 4, p. 26

The Holy Prophet [s] said: "The worship done by the one who earns his living on unlawful money is similar to a building constructed upon sand." Bihar-ul-Anwar, vol. 84, p. 258

Imam Sadiq (a.s.) has said: one day the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.s.) offered the morning prayers with people. Then his eye fell on a youth who was dozing. His complexion was yellowish and body very thin. His eyes had gone deep in sockets. Addressing him the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.s.) said: O youth! How you passed your night? He replied: I passed my night in a way which provided me certainty the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.s.) became pleased with his reply and said: Verily every certainty has a reality.

What is the reality of your certainty? He answered: O Prophet of Allah! It is the certainty that has made me gloomy. It has made me bear wake fullness during night and the hot sun during days. It has made me disinterested in whatever is there in this world. It has almost enabled me to observe the Throne of Allah as if I am standing in His Presence to account for my deeds that people have gathered all around; as if I am seeing the people of the paradise who are living happily and are reclining on their chairs talking pleasantly with one another and similarly, as if I can also see the people of the hell who are being chastised therein, crying and wailing and as if the nose of the leaping flames of the hell-fire is rigging in my ears. the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.s.) said: This youth is a slave of Allah whose heart is lit up with the light of Faith.

Thereafter, the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.s.) himself said to that youth: continue in the state and condition wherein you are now. The youth appealed: O Prophet of Allah! Pray to Allah so that He may grant me martyrdom with your attendants. The Holy Prophet (s.a.w.s.) prayed for him and it so happened that after some time that youth, who was fighting a battle along with the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.s.) turned out to be the tenth martyr of that Holy war.

The Holy Prophet (s.a.w.s.) said: Had not the satans put doubts in man’s heart he man would have been able to observe the reality of the heaven and the earth.

For reaching the above-mentioned realities and in order to understand it, it is necessary to cross some stages:

The soul of man must have ability.

The heart must become clean. All impurities must be removed. Man’s mind must not be involved in worldly affairs. When these stages are reached then he will be able to show tajalliyaat (manifestations) and (Makaashifaat) illuminations.

In a hadith mentioning Almighty’s Allah’s revelation to Moosa (a.s.) we see: O Moosa ! Do not lengthen thy ambitions in this world that may harden your heart. The one whose heart hardens gets away from Me.

And this hard-heartedness resulting from lengthy ambitions and consequent sins becomes even harder than stone as mentioned in the Holy Quran: Then your hearts hardened after that, so that they were like rocks, rather worse in hardness; and surely there are some rocks from which streams burst forth, and surely there are some of them which split asunder so water issues out of them, and surely there are some of them which fall down for fear of Allah, and Allah is not at all heedless of what you do.

This verse was sent down by God about Bani Israel’s hard-heartedness. They had observed all the miracles from Moosa (a.s.).

Their hearts were so stony that no admonition affected their hearts!

The Qur'an praises highly the respectful devotees and lauds their uniquely sublime position:

"Successful indeed are the believers. Who are humble in their prayers”. Holy Qur'an (23:1-2)

The Prophet (s.a.w.) calls sincere hearts to be tied to Allah, to be deeply attached to Him and to have genuine presence in front of Him, by saying:

‘Allah never accepts a prayer if the man's heart is not present along with his body.”

It is related that the Prophet (s.a.w.) was once present in the mosque, when a man came into the mosque and offered his prayer. He did not bow or prostrate perfectly. The Prophet (s.a.w.) commented:

‘He pecked like a crow. If he dies, and his prayer is like this, he will die as a non-Muslim’.

He has also been quoted to have said:

‘Whoever offers two rakas (cycles of prayer) and does not talk to himself of this world, Allah forgives all his previous sins.’

Imam al-Sadiq (a.s.) said:

‘A heart where love of Allah and fear of Him join together, its reward would be paradise. So when you pray let your heart be present with Allah, because never does a faithful servant of Allah pray to Him with a conscious heart, without Allah gathering the hearts of the faithful round him, and grants him paradise as he is loved by the faithful’.

Presence of heart must certainly be accompanied by the sincere intention to offer the prayer as a means of the nearness to Allah, without hypocrisy, the pretension of being sincere, humble and pious in front of people, or pride over one's prayer. The worshipper should concentrate his intention and will and turn all his feelings and the depths of his existence towards the Allah Glorified.

The soul becomes composed and serene through sincere deeds. Its powers are then ready to receive the blessings of divine perfection. By achieving this, it deserves to be granted divine mercy, forgiveness and ample reward.

The Most Exalted says:

"And whoever submits himself wholly to Allah and he is the doer of good (to others), he indeed has taken hold of the firmest thing upon which one can lay hold; and Allah's is the end of affairs. " Holy Qur'an (3 1:22)

Most certainly, the worshipper must cross the plain both of material and perception in order to spiritually enter the majestic and divine world and be humbly present in front of Allah.

Heavily burdened by life its troubles and sins, the soul finds rest and inhales the fragrance of the nearness of Allah in this spiritually charged atmosphere.

The Prophet was (s.a.w.) was speaking the truth when he used to call Bilal al-Habashi to give the adhan by saying:

‘0 Bilal, give us rest by it'.

Life Is An Echo
What you send out - comes back.
What you sow - you reap.
What you give - you get.
What you see in others - exists in you.
Remember, Life is an Echo.
It always gets back

One night a snake while it was looking for food, entered a carpenter’s workshop.
The carpenter, who was a rather untidy man, had left several of his tools lying on the floor. One of them was a saw. As the snake went round and round the shop, he climbed over the saw, which gave him a little cut.
At once, thinking that the saw was attacking him, he turned around and bit it so hard that his mouth started to bleed. This made him very angry. He attacked again and again until the saw was covered with blood and seemed to be dead.
Dying from his own wounds, the snake decided to give one last hard bite then turned away. The next morning the carpenter was surprised to find a dead snake on his doorstep.
Lesson to Learn:
Sometimes in trying to hurt others, we only hurt ourselves.
