Shaikh Sadooq stated whoever fasts for nine days in the month of Sha'ban, Munkar, and Nakeer will deal with him gently and courteously during questioning.

One of the benefits narrated by Imam Muhammad Baqir for a person who remains awake on the night of 23rd of the month of Ramadan and offers one hundred units of prayer is that Allah removes fear from his heart during the questioning, and a light shines forth from his grave which illuminates the whole world.
The Holy Prophet said applying dye has four benefits, one of which is that Munkar and Nakeer shy away from him in the grave.
A person who recites Surah Yaseen before going to bed and Salaatul Laylatul Raghaib (the first Thursday night of the month of Rajab), will be saved from the terror of the grave.
If a person fasts for twelve days in the month of Sha'ban, Allah will send 70,000 Angels daily to his grave.
If a person visits an ailing man, Allah appoints an Angel for him who accompanies him in his grave until Qiyamat.
Ayatollah Dastghaib Shirazi has listed some of the many Amaals that protect one from the squeeze in the grave:
  1. Imam Ali says a person who recites Surah Nisa every Friday will remain safe from the squeeze in the grave.
  2. It is narrated that if a person recites Surah Zukhruf, Allah will save him from the reptiles of the earth and the squeeze in the grave.
  3. A person who recites Surah Qalam in obligatory or supererogatory prayers will remain safe from this punishment.
  4. Imam Sadiq says if a person dies between the sunset of Thursday and the sunset of Friday, Allah will exempt him from this punishment.
  5. Imam Ali al-Ridha (peace be upon him) says if a person gets up in the last part of the night and recites Salatul Layl, Allah will save him from the squeeze in the grave and grant him immunity from the fire of hell, and will increase his age and sustenance.
  6. The Holy Prophet says if a person recites Surah Takathur before going to bed, Allah will grant him freedom from this punishment.
  7. To put Jareedatayn (two wet sticks or panches) along with the dead body in the grave. It is narrated that so long as the sticks remain wet, the dead person is saved from chastisement.
  8. A person who recites ten rak'at of Salat on the 1st of Rajab, such that in every rak'at after Surah al-Hamd he recites three times Surah Tawheed, he will be saved from the squeezing in the grave.
  9. Reciting Surah Mulk on the grave is an act which saves the dead man from punishment in the grave. Allama Qutubuddin Rawandi relates from Ibn Abbas, who says that once a person pitched a tent on a ground not knowing that there was a grave beneath it. Thereafter he started reciting Surah Mulk. Suddenly he heard a voice saying that the Surah gives salvation. He related this incident to the Holy Prophet, who replied, "Verily, this Surah frees a person from the punishment in the grave". Shaikh Kulayni also narrates from Imam Baqir who said that the recitation of Surah Mulk saves one from the punishment in the grave.
  10. To keep Khake Shifa (the mud of the grave of Imam Hussain) in the shroud (kafan), or to rub it on the parts of prostration (Sajda).

for everyone

Sitting in the Geography class in school, I remember how fascinated I was when we were being taught all about the Dead Sea.

As you probably recall, the Dead Sea is really a Lake, not a sea (and as my Geography teacher pointed out, if you understood that, it would guarantee 4 marks in the term paper!)

Its so high in salt content that the human body can float easily. You can almost lie down and read a book! The salt in the Dead Sea is as high as 35% - almost 10 times the normal ocean water. And all that saltiness has meant that there is no life at all in the Dead Sea. No fish. No vegetation. No sea animals. Nothing lives in the Dead sea.

And hence the name: Dead Sea.

While the Dead Sea has remained etched in my memory, I don't seem to recall learning about the Sea of Galilee in my school Geography lesson. So when I heard about the Sea of Galilee and the Dead Sea and the tale of the two seas - I was intrigued.

Turns out that the Sea of Galilee is just north of the Dead Sea. Both the Sea of Galilee and the Dead Sea receive their water from river Jordan. And yet, they are very, very different.

Unlike the Dead Sea, the Sea of Galilee is pretty, resplendent with rich, colorful marine life. There are lots of plants. And lots of fish too. In fact, the sea of Galilee is home to over twenty different types of fishes.

Same region, same source of water, and yet while one sea is full of life, the other is dead. How come?

Here apparently why. The River Jordan flows into the Sea of Galilee and then flows out. The water simply passes through the Sea of Galilee in and then out - and that keeps the Sea healthy and vibrant, teeming with marine life.

But the Dead Sea is so far below the mean sea level, that it has no outlet. The
water flows in from the river Jordan, but does not flow out. There are no outlet streams. It is estimated that over 7 million tons of water evaporate from the Dead Sea every day. Leaving it salty. Too full of minerals. And unfit for any marine life.

The Dead Sea takes water from the River Jordan, and holds it. It does not give. Result? No life at all.

Think about it.

Life is not just about getting. Its about giving. We all need to be a bit like the Sea of Galilee.

We are fortunate to get wealth, knowledge, love and respect. But if we don't learn to give, we could all end up like the Dead Sea. The love and the respect, the wealth and the knowledge could all evaporate. Like the water in the Dead Sea.

If we get the Dead Sea mentality of merely taking in more water, more money, more everything the results can be disastrous. Good idea to make sure that in the sea of your own life, you have outlets. Many outlets. For love and wealth - and everything else that you get in your life. Make sure you don't just get, you give too.

Open the taps. And you'll open the floodgates to happiness.

Make that a habit. To share. To give.

And experience life. Experience the magic!

In The Name of Allah The Beneficent The MercifulAMENDMENT to the Announcement Regarding
The New Crescent for Rabi'e al-Awal1432 AH

Dear Believers in North America,

Asalamu Alaykum,

The Crescent Moon Committee of the Council of Shi'a Muslim Scholars in North America announces that reports were received after the release of the announcement. These reports were verified; the new crescent was sighted with the naked eye in two cities in South California: Canoga Park and San Diego. Therefore the announcement needed to be amended.

For the cities that share the same curve of sighting with Canoga Park and San Diego, Friday is the first of Rabi'e al-Awal 1432 A.H., everywhere else, Saturday is considered the first of Rabi'e al-Awal 1432 A.H.

To investigate on the curve of sighting, one can use the following link to seek further details regarding their specific locality.

We ask the Almighty Allah to shower you with His Blessings.

Thank you.
Salam Alikum

The "Crescent Moon Committee" was established at the 10th Council of Shia Muslim Scholars in North America in Detroit, October 2010.

Talking about the importance of motherhood in Islam, the Religious Authority, Grand Ayatullah Sayyed Muhammad Hussein Fadlullah, showed that Islam calls for appreciating mothers for their sacrifices.. ......... ......... ......... .......
The Paradise is under mothers' feet
Right from the beginning, and in both the Holy Quran and the Prophet’s actions and sayings, Islam has given the mother a status higher than the father, as to loving or treating her with love and kindness. For mothers suffer a lot before the child is born.
Moreover, if she is sick before getting pregnant, she tends to get worse during pregnancy. Then her life will be threatened when she gives birth. She also has to nurse and take care of the child, which restricts her freedom of movement.
That is why Allah talked about the suffering of the mother which is not shared by the father:
“And We have enjoined on man doing of good to his parents; with trouble did his mother bear him and with trouble did she bring him forth; and the bearing of him and the weaning of him was thirty months” {46:15} .
On the other hand, the father has a duty in providing for his children and in raising and educating them.
That is why Allah equated between them when it comes to treating them kindly… Allah repeated the word “parents” several times in the Holy Quran:
And your Lord has commanded that you shall not serve (any) but Him, and goodness to your parents. If either or both of them reach old age with you, say not to them (so much as) "Ugh" nor chide them, and speak to them a generous word, while preserving precedence for the mother since she is the one who has suffers more.
This is why the Messenger (p.) said: “Heaven is under the feet of mothers”.
Meaning that Heaven is the reward of her endurance and patience… Certain traditions have it that if the mother dies while giving birth she is considered a martyr.
Imam Zein Al-Abidein says: “It is also said that once a man came to the Messenger (p.) and asked: “I feed my parents, carry them on my back and clean them, have I fulfilled my duty towards them? The Prophet (p.)
answered: No, because, you are serving them in anticipation for their death while they served you wishing you a long life”.
Imam as-Sadiq (a.s.) said that the Prophet (p.) was asked once by a Muslim:
Whom should I be kind to?” The Prophet said your mother. He repeated it three times, and he then said your father.
A man called Ibrahim bin Mohazzam narrated the following story: I once quarreled with my mother and I was cruel to her. The following day Imam as-Sadiq (a.s.) said to me: How could you that? Don’t you know that her womb is a house that you had lived in… and that her breast is a bowl that you drank from? Do not do that again.
The Quran prohibited any harm to the parents even if by words, but lower to them the wing of humility " And, out of kindness, lower to them the wing of humility, and say: My Lord! Bestow on them thy Mercy even as they cherished me in childhood". This kind of humility, does not lower man but elevates him, since it is out of kindness.
A man came to Imam as-Sadiq (a.s.) saying that he has embraced Islam while his mother did not, and asked him about what he should do.
The Imam said: “See how you used to take care of her when you and her were embracing the same religion and multiply it”.
When he did so, the mother noticed and asked him why. He told her: “I was ordered to do so by the leader of this religion”. The mother asked: “Is he a prophet?”; “No he is a son of the prophet” the man answered. The women ended up in adopting such a religion whose morals are that high and spiritual.
Thus, the issue of motherhood is very fundamental in the Islamic view of the family. What we have said so far about it implies two responsibilities: the responsibility of children towards their parents and that of the husband.
The problem with some husbands is that they under-appreciate motherhood.. .
But they would act as thugs, threatening all the time to divorce women.
The second point: man has to be very careful when he chooses a mother for his children.
He has to choose a woman who is well educated and well raised.
Beauty and money will not last. Moreover you do not live with a check book or a painting... You live with a spiritual and social companion. That is why the prophet advised us to marry those who are pious in their religion.
Then when a man chooses a wife he has to appreciate all the efforts she makes in bringing up the children. Women too have to appreciate man’s struggle to provide for the family… Thus, theirs is a relationship of complementing one another. And if both husband and wife are good to one another and to their children, Allah, the most Exalted, will bring them together in paradise as He has promised in the QURAN.

It is natural for us to look for mistakes and faults in others in order to make ourselves feel better and powerful. Many people may not realize that backbiting is a sin. It is related that the Prophet said:

“Backbiting means that you say about your brother something which pains him.”

Before speaking ill of others ask yourselves these two questions:

“Would I want someone revealing my faults?” and

“Would I be saying these things if that person were here in front of me?”

Remember the old proverb that we have read and heard many times: “Do not unto others what you do not want others to do unto you.” Treat others how you want to be treated. According to the Holy Koran, when you backbite it is as if you are eating the flesh of your dead brother. (Koran 9:12)

There are many causes for committing backbiting, and because of this a man commits it sometimes knowingly and sometimes unknowingly. When one wants to belittle a person from whom it is feared that he will expose some fault of one’s. Rather than involving yourself with others, who are committing backbiting, spend that time thanking God that you are not a part of the group.

God did not put us on this earth to judge others, but to be judged by him. There are certain instances where you may speak about someone and it is not considered as backbiting. Few examples would be

To relate the dishonesty committed by someone with a view to saving a Muslim from sin, would not be backbiting.

If the life, property, or honour of someone can be protected only by informing of a fault it would not be backbiting.

If for some reason you need to share a story with a friend about someone else do not mention any names. That story you are sharing may help your friend from committing the same sin.

So let us not forget the above proverb and treat others how we would like t
o be treated.

 4. Hell had been lit for one thousand years until its flames became red. Again it was heated for another thousand years till its colour became white. Still again it was burnt for further thousand years and its white color flames turned pitch black.

 5. Even the most fierce fire of this world is 70 fold cooler than the fire of Hell.

 6. The lightest punishment in Hell would be the wearing of " Fiery shoes" which would cause one's brain to boil.

 8. For food, the dweller of Hell would be given Zaqqum which is a prickly tree, so bitter, that even if a single molecule of it were to spill onto this earth it would make all the foodstuff of the world bitter and unpalatable.

 9. For drinking, the denizen of Hell would be provided with hot, boiling pus mixed with blood, matter, urine and tears etc. of the dwellers of Hell. If a bucket of this foul liquid were to be splashed over this earth, the entire world would be upset and disrupted by its most foul stink.

 10. Boiling water would be poured over Jahannami's head and this will cause their internal organs to melt and leak out through their feet.

11.The inmates of Hell would be lashed with heavy clubs of iron. If one such club was to be placed upon this earth, the combined strength of all the human beings, as well as all the Jinns, would fail to lift it; and if a mountain is struck with one of these clubs it would cause the whole mountain to disintegrate.

 12. The dwellers of Hell would be burnt daily for 70 thousand times. Every time, after the skin and flesh is burnt, they would be restored to life so that they can continuously taste this punishment.

 13. A drunkard will be given blood, pus, sweat, filth, etc. to drink in hell.

 14. All the haughty people will be gathered in the Hereafter and driven towards Hell but their bodies would be reduced to the size of ants and they will be given to consume the excretions of the dwellers of Hell.

 15. Some sinners would be made to climb " SAUD " which is a mountain of fire in Hell, and then dropped from its peak and this process would continue forever and ever.

 16. The dwellers of Hell would be pound in chains which would be greater in length than the distance between the sky and the earth.

 17. The clothes of sinners in Hell would be highly inflammable.

 18. Beside physical torture, the dwellers of Hell would also be subjected to mental harassment through the taunting by the guardian of Hell who will remind them of their misdeed on earth and remarks "Now taste the fire" etc.

 19. The sinners and disbelievers would be humiliated to such an extent that besides their revolting ugliness and pitch black faces, their upper lips would be touching their foreheads and the lower lip dangling around the navel.

 20. The dwellers of Hell would weep so much and shed so much of tears and blood that furrows would be formed on their cheeks.

 21. The tongues of Hell-inmates would be so long and protruding from there mouths that others would trample and step on them.

 22. Shayateen will also rebuke the denizens of Hell.

 23. The dwellers of Hell would display their rage and fury on those who led them astray.

 24. The inhabitants of Hell would appeal to the guardians of Jahannam to intercede on their behalf in the court of Allah but their pleas would reject. They would make direct supplication to Allah but their prayers would not be granted.

 25. They will then abide forever in Hell, continuously lamenting and braying like asses (jungle animals).

O ALLAH ! SAVE US, OUR PARENTS AND FAMILY MEMBERS AND FRIENDS AND RELATIVES AS WELL AS THE READERS AND THEIR FAMILIES AND DECEASED RELATIVES FROM THE PUNISHMENT OF JAHANNAM, AND GRANT US ALLTHE HIGH STATIONS OF JANNAH WITHOUT RECKONING. AMEEN ! IF IT WAS NOT ALLAH'S EXALTED RAHAM AND KARAM WHERE WILL WE SINNERS GO.

Iran's leader hails "Islamic" uprising in Arab world

Iran's supreme leader saluted on Friday what he termed an "Islamic liberation movement" in the Arab world, and advised the people of Egypt and Tunisia to unite around their religion and against the West.Skip related content

"The awakening of the Islamic Egyptian people is an Islamic liberation movement and I, in the name of the Iranian government, salute the Egyptian people and the Tunisian people," Khamenei told worshipers at Friday prayers in Tehran. In his first public comments on the popular uprisings in the region, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said Iran's 1979 revolution, which deposed the U.S.-backed shah and established an Islamic Republic, could serve as a pattern for the Arab uprisings.
Both Israel and the United States are concerned about the possibility of the Egyptian uprising taking on an Islamist ideology and would not like to see Iran's influence increase in the region as Arab states distance themselves from Washington.
Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood has portrayed itself as only part of a broad popular revolt. It has a mainly lay leadership, unlike in Iran, and backs democratic pluralism. It has no plans to run for Egypt's presidency, a group leader said on Friday.
The 71-year-old Khamenei dismissed as "lies" any suggestion that Iran wanted to interfere in the region's affairs.
"The awakening of people is a war between two wills, the will of the people and the will of the enemies of the people," said Khamenei, who condemned the huge street protests that erupted in Iran after the disputed re-election of hardline President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in June 2009.
Khamenei called on the Egyptian army to back the protesters and "focus its eyes on the Zionist enemy," a reference to Israel which fears a change of regime in Egypt could jeopardise its 1979 peace treaty with its neighbour to the west.
"If Egypt halts its alliance with (Israel) and takes its real position, what a great event will happen in the region. All the late Imam's prophecies will come true," he said, referring to Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, the leader of Iran's revolution who called for popular uprisings throughout the Islamic world.
CALL ON GOD
In a sermon punctuated with chants of "Death to America" from a congregation that included Ahmadinejad and other important political and military figures, Khamenei said: "Our revolution has been able to inspire hope, to set an example."
Addressing the people of the Arab world -- a predominantly Sunni Muslim region which has historically viewed Persian Shi'ite Iran as an adversary -- he cautioned them to beware of Western influence subverting their revolutions.
Without naming Mohamed ElBaradei, the former head of the U.N. nuclear agency, who claims endorsement from disparate opposition groups from secular students to the Muslim Brotherhood, Khamenei warned Egyptians against compromising with any leader who might win Western approval.
"They are trying to replace one spy with another. They are trying to focus the spotlight on certain faces to impose the rule of the spies on you. Do not accept anything less than an independent popular regime that believes in Islam," he said.
"If they (protesters) are able to push this through then what will happen to the U.S. policies in the region will be an irreparable defeat for America," he said, telling Arab peoples he was their "brother in religion."
"I call on God to help you and bring about victory for you. I feel proud for your awakening."
While Iranian officials have lauded the protests for taking inspiration from Iran's revolution, Iranian opposition figures say the events have more in common with the 2009 anti-Ahmadinejad demonstrations, which were stamped out by a government that denied the presidential election was rigged.
After Friday prayers, several hundred Iranians staged a demonstration of solidarity with the Egyptian protesters, burning pictures of Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak and shouting slogans against Israel and the United States.

Our holy prophet(S.A.W) had reported and informed His beloved daughter of every event of suffering that she was going to face after His departure from this world. Janabe Fatema Zehra S.A was also told that she was going to be the first of the Ahlul-Bayt to follow him in Paradise. On the 28th Safar in 11 A.H the noble soul of her holy father left this mortal world and now the enemies who claimed to be the lovers of the Holy Prophet (S.A.W) made their move.

The history reports us how Janabe Fatema Zahra’s (S.A) rights were usurped , how the house was set on fire , how the door fell on Janabe Fatema S.A which caused the death of Janabe Mohsin , how Imam Ali A.S was dragged to the mosque to pay allegiance to Abu Bakr.

They who were behind all this actions in hurting the beloved daughter of Rasool-e-Khuda S.A.W had forgotten all the ahadith of the Noble Messenger of Allah:

”Whoever injures Janabe Fatema S.A injures me and Allah and whoever injures Allah practises unbelief.” And also :

”Allah is satisfied with her satisfaction and is angered when she is angered”.

She was hurt and tortured by they who were to be the closest to our holy Prophet S.A.W. If this was true how come they ignored the holy tradition of the Holy Messenger S.A.W. The tragedies of Hazrat Fatema Zehra S.A can be understood by her own words as she has said:

"O my Father! After your death I was subjected to such tortures and tyranny that if they had been inflicted on the Day , it would have turned into Night."

The personality of “The part of the Prophet’s self” that is, the infallible, Janabe Fatema (s.a.) is surely beyond our capacity of comprehension and sensibility and above the range of our grasping power, understanding, and praise. She was infallibility, personified. Our love and esteem for her and her family is an essence, a must for every believer and a duty towards God. She was the lady, whose pleasure and displeasure amounts to the pleasure and displeasure of God. The full significance of her personality can not be understood by us, earthly creatures. We do not possess the intelligence to characterize her.
To put it simply, its impossible. For this reason only, we have to take recourse to convey to our readers, her nobility of soul, her exalted nature, her values and virtues, right, from the source of her progeny:
1. As told by her exalted father (s.a.w.a.) there were only four exalted women in this world, namely, (1) Janabe Mariam (s.a.), daughter of Imran (2) Janabe Khadeeja (s.a.), daughter of Khuwaylid (3) Janabe Fatema (s.a.), daughter of Mohammed (s.a.w.a..) and (4) Janabe Aasia (s.a.), daughter of Mazahim (wife of Firaon).
(Manaqib, Behaar).
2. Imam Musa al-Kazim (a.s.), said that once the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.a.) said that God has selected four women only, and they are Mariam, Aasia, Khadeejah and Fatema.
(Behaar and Fazaael-e-Sadoq).
3. Imam Reza (a.s.) quotes that Messenger of Allah (s.a.w.a.) used to say that Hasan (a.s.) and Husain (a.s.) were the most superior men in this world. And their mother was the best of all the women.
(Behaar, Oyoono Akhbaar- al-Reza)
4. Imam Jafar as-Sadiq (a.s.) was once asked, as to why Janabe Fatema (s.a.) was called Zahra? He (a.s.) said that when she used to stand under the arch (Mehraab) for offering prayers, her radiance used to shed light for those high up in the skies in the same manner as the stars shed their light on the earth for the benefit of it’s inhabitants.
(Behaar, Maani-ul-Akhbaar and Elal- ush-Sharaaye)
5. Imam Mohammed Baqir (a.s.) had quoted that once the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w.a.) had sent Janabe Salmaan-e-Farsi (r.a.) on some errand to the house of Fatema (s.a.). On reaching there he stood at the door and saluted (Salaam) her. He then heard that Janabe Fatema (s.a.) was busy reciting Qur’an, and that the grinding stone flour mill was automatically functioning, as if it were being operated by an unseen hand.
(Behaar, Manaaaqib Ibn, Shahre Aashob vol. 3, pg.16)
The Holy Prophet’s (s.a.w.a.) love towards Fatema (s.a.):
It was the unlimited affection and kindness of the Great Messenger of God (s.a.w.a.) that enhances the esteem of the personality of Hazrat Fatema Zahra (s.a.).
It was obvious that she did not draw all this attention, regard and affection for just being the daughter of the Prophet (P.B.U.H.), but all this greatness was based on the Qur’anic verse “And he does not speak of his desire. He speaks only what is revealed to him.” (Surah Najm).
Let us, therefore, study some of the sayings of the Prophet (s.a.w.a.) to understand his love and affection for his unparallel daughter:
1. It was customary on the part of the Prophet (s.a.w.a.) that when starting for journey, he would visit Fatema (s.a.) to bid her farewell. On his return, he would pay her a visit immediately.
(Behaar, Kashful Ghumma and Mannaqib Ibn ShahreAashob)
2. The Messenger of Islam (s.a.w.a.), used to say, “Fatema is a part of my body. Whoever pleases her, pleases me and whosoever harms her harms me. To me, Fatema is of the highest value and esteem”
(Kashful Ghummah, vol.2, pg. 24).
3. Aamer Shobi, Hasan Basari, Sufyaan Sauri, Mujahid, Ibn Jubair and Ja’bir Bin Abdullah Ansari all have quoted on the authority of Imam Jafar Sadiq (a.s.) that the Prophet (s.a.w.a.) had said that Fatema (s.a.) was a part of me and whoever displeases her, he has actually displeased me.”
Bukhari, from Masur Bin Mukrami, has also quoted this tradition.
