The Holy Quran is not merely for us to recite during the month of Ramadan or following a loved one's death. It is a blessing from Allah, brought down for us to seek guidance and tranquility from not just a few times each year but constantly. Let's make it a habit to read at least a few pages each day.
The Holy Prophet has said, "Surely the recitation of the Qur'an is atonement for the sins, a protection from the hellfire, and a safety from the punishment. Mercy will descend upon the reciter, the angels will seek forgiveness for him, heaven will long for that person, and his Lord will be pleased with him." (Bihar al-Anwar)
He also said, "One who recites ten verses of the Qur'an every night will not be counted amongst the negligent ones (ghafilin); and one who recites fifty verses will be written as those who remember Allah (dhakirin); and one who recites one hundred verses will be written down as the obedient and worshipper of Allah (qanitin)." (Thawabul A'mal)

The Prophet is narrated to have said, "Wudhu (ablution) performed on wudhu is as light upon light on the Judgment Day." (Adab as-Suluk)
Being the means to spiritual purification, always remaining in the state of wudhu is highly beneficial to the body and soul, evoking inner enlightenment, and surely it serves as a shield against darkness and corruption. Traditions narrate that one who performs wudhu before going to sleep is as if he has stood up the entire night in prayers!
Our Prophet has encouraged us to be mindful of cleanliness at all times: "Try to be clean as much as you are able to. Verily, Allah has based the foundation of Islam on cleanliness; hence, never can a person enter Paradise but the clean ones." (Kanz ul-'Ummal)

These are bunch of things which I learnt from my experience...
  • Whenever I find the key to success, someone changes the lock.
  • To Error is human, to forgive is not a COMPANY policy.
  • The road to success........ is always under construction.

  • In order to get a Loan, you first need to prove that you don't need it.
  • All the desirable things in life are illegal, expensive or fattening.
  • Since Light travels faster than Sound, people appear brighter before you hear them speak.
  • Everyone has a scheme of getting rich..... which never works.
  • If at first you don't succeed.... Destroy all evidence that you ever tried.
  • You can never determine which side of the bread to butter. If it falls down, it will always land on the buttered side.
  • Anything dropped on the floor will roll over to the most inaccessible corner.
  • 42.7% of all statistics is made on the spot.
  • As soon as you mention something...... if it is good, it is taken.... If it is bad, it happens.
  • He who has the gold, makes the rules Murphy's golden rule.
  • If you come early, the bus is late. If you come late...... the bus is still late.
  • Once you have bought something, you will find the same item being sold somewhere else at a cheaper rate.
  • When in a queue, the other line always moves faster and the person in front of you will always have the most complex of transactions.
  • If you have paper, you don't have a pen....... If you have a pen, you don't have paper...... if you have both, no one calls.
  • Especially for Students: If you have bunked the class, the professor has taken attendance.
  • You will pick up maximum wrong numbers when on roaming.
  • The door bell or your mobile will always ring when you are in the bathroom.
  • If your exam is tomorrow, there will be a power cut tonight.
  • The last person to be fired or quit is responsible for all the errors until another person is fired or quits.
  • Irrespective of the direction of the wind, the smoke from the cigarette will always tend to go to the non-smoker ...............

Donkey, Dog, Monkey and Man
God created the donkey & said to him: “You will work unceasingly from sunrise to sunset carrying burdens on your back. You will eat grass, you will have no intelligence & you will live 50 years.
You will be a donkey. “The donkey answered: “I will be a donkey, but to live 50 years is too much. Give me only 20 years. God granted his wish.
God created the dog and said to him: "You will be a dog.” You will guard the house of man. You will be his best friend. You will eat the scraps that he gives you and you will live 25 years. You will be a dog. “The dog answered: “Master, to live 25 years is too much, you give me only 10 years. God granted his wish. God created the Monkey and said to him: “You will be a monkey.” You will swing from branch to branch doing tricks. You will be amusing and you will live 20 years. You will be a monkey. “The monkey answered: “Master to live 20 years is too much, you give me only 10 years. God granted his wish.

Finally God created the man and said to him: “You will be a man, the only rational creature on the face of the earth.” You will use your intelligence to become master over all animals. You will dominate the world and you will live 20 years. Man responded: "I will be a man but to live only 20 years is very little, give the 30 years that the donkey refused, the 15 years that the dog did not want and the 10 years the monkey refused. God granted his wish. And since then, man lives 20 years as a man, he marries and spends 30 years like a donkey, working and carrying all the burdens on his back. Then when his children are gone, he lives 15 years like a dog, taking care of the house and eating whatever is given to him, so that when he is old, he can retire and live 10 years like a monkey, going from house to house, from one son or daughter to another, doing tricks to amuse his grandchildren

Imam Ja’far ibn Mohammed as-Sadiq (a.s.) said: “ Call upon Allah and do not say to yourself that the die is cast, for there is a rank with Allah (swt) a man cannot attain without asking for it.  If Allah’s servant closes his mouth and does not ask anything from Him, nothing will be given to him.  Therefore, ask Allah (swt) for what you need so that He will give it to you.  Whoever knocks on a door and persists will be allowed in.”
The Imam (a.s.) further said:” Whoever does not ask for Allah’s special grace, will remain destitute.”
Imam Ali ibn Abi Talib (a.s.) said; “Never have this impression that Allah Almighty has opened the door of dua but has closed the door of answering dua.”
The Imam (a.s.) further said: “If Allah (swt) gives someone the blessing of dua, He will not deprive him of the answer.”
The Holy Prophet (s.a.w.a) said: “Dua is the gist of worshiping.”
FOUR SIMPLE AND EFFECTIVE DUAS FROM THE HOLY QU’RAN
Imam Ja’far ibn Mohammad as-Sadiq (a.s.) had expressed surprise that why when in need the faithful do not use the four effective duas available to them.
These are ayats (verses) from the Holy Qu’ran that are the solutions for the problem described.  The translations given here also include some sections before/after to enable better understanding.
1.     To overcome fear of authority/ruler “WA UFAWWIZU AMREE ILALLAAH  INALLLAAHA BASEERUN BIL IBAD”
“So you shall remember what I say to you, and I entrust my affair to Allah, Surely Allah sees the servants (The Holy Qu’ran Cha. Al-Ghafir or Mu’min (40) vs.44)
2.     For Rizq (sustenance) “MASHAALLAHU LAA QUWWATA ILLA BILLAH”
“And wherefore did you not say when you entered your garden: “It is as Allah has pleased, there is not power save in Allah?”
(The Holy Qu’ran Ch.Al-Khaf (18) vs 39)
3.     For Sorrows/sufferings; “ LA ILA HA ILLA ANTA SUBHANAKA INNI KUNTU MINAZZALIMEEN”
“And Yunus, when he went away in wrath, so he thought that We would not straiten him, so he called out among afflictions: “There is not God but Thou, Glory be to Thee; surely I am of those  who make themselves to suffer loss” (The Holy Qu’ran Ch. Al-Anbiya (21) vs 87)
4.     Other issues/needs: “ HASBUNALLAH WA NI’MAL WAKEEL”
“Those to whom the people said: “Surely men have gathered against you, therefore fear them”, but this increased their faith, and they said; “Allah is sufficient for us and most excellent is the Protector”.  (The Holy Qu’ran Ch. Aale I’mraan (3) vs 173)
“A kind word and pardon is better than charity that is followed by injury, and verily Allah is Self-sufficient, the Most forbearing.”
“The friend of Mohammed is he who obeys Allah, even though he may have no blood relationship, and the enemy of Mohammed is he who disobeys Allah even though he may have near kinship
(Imam Ali (a.s.)
“Praying and fasting is not the true worship.  The true worship is the pondering over God.
(Imam Ali ibn Musa Ar-Reza (a.s.)
“Whenever people perpetrate unprecedented sins, God will inflict upon them unexpected misfortunes
(Imam Musa ibn Ja’far Al Khadim (a.s.)

There are many Hadees which recommend Dua (supplication).  Here we present a few examples extracted from the book ‘Oddatol Daee’.  The Asset of Supplicant by Sheikh Ahmad ibn Fahd Helli.
1.     Hassan ibn Sdair says: “I asked Immam Mohammad ib ali al- Baqer (a.s.) which prayer is more virtuous?  The Immam (a.s.) said: “Nothing is more praiseworthy to Allah than a servant’s request and no one is more detested than one who refrains from obeying Allah and asking something from Him”.
2.     Zarareh quotes Immam Muhammed ibn Ali al-Baqer (a.s.) as saying: “Allah says: those who refrain from worshipping Me will enter the Hell with disgrace.  Prayer, here, means Dua which is the best form of prayers.”
3.  Zareh says” I asked Immam (a.s.) further about the meaning of the
Quranic verse: “Surely Ibrahim was very tender-hearted, and
Forbearing:” The Immam (a.s.) said: “tender-hearted here means one
      Who frequently recites Dua”
3.     Ibn Ghadiah quotes Immam Ja’far ibn Mohmmed al-Sadeq (a.s.) as
Saying “ Immam Ali (a.s.) says: “ The most praiseworthy deed on the earth is Dua, the best form of prayer is chastity.  An Immam Ali (a.s.) was an example as a man of abundant Dua.
4        Imam (a.s.) said “ Dua brings answer with it in the same way that
Cloud brings rain”.
5        The Immam (a.s.) also asked “Can you distinguish between long-term and short-term affliction?  The Immam (a.s.) replied “No” but further added that “whenever one of you were inspired with Dua, know that the affliction will not last long”
6.     The Immam (a.s.) further stated that : “ The affliction of a believer
Who succeeds in Dua will be soon removed whereas the affliction of a believer who stops Dua will last long.  Therefore whenever an affliction befalls you, supplicate to Allah “.
7.     The Holy Prophet (s.a.w.a.) says” “Seek help from Allah when in need, seek refuge with Him during afflictions, supplicate, and call upon Him, for Dua is the gist of prayer.   No believer calls upon Allah (swt) unless his call is answered in the following ways:
Either his request is granted in this world or he will receive it in the Hereafter, or his sins will be concealed to the extent of his Dua, provided he has not asked for a sinful act.
The Holy Prophet (s.a.w.a.) also said: “The weakest person is one who forgets Dua and the most mean person is one who is miser in greeting others.
The Holy Prophet (s.a.w.a.) asked: “Shall I introduce to you the most miser, the most sluggish, the most stealing person, the most oppressing and the most weak person”.
He replied: “The most miser person is one who visits a muslim but does not say Salam to him.  The most sluggish person is one who is in good health but does not praise Allah with his lips and tongue during leisure times.  The most stealing person is one who does not peform his prayer perfectly.  Such prayer is twisted and thrown at his fact like an old piece of cloth.  The most wrong doing person is one before who my name is said, but he does not send Allah’s greeting to me.  The weakest person is one who has forgotten Dua”.
8.     The Holy Prophet (s.a.w.a.) said: “The best prayer is Dua.  When
Allah inspires someone with Dua, He opens the door of Mercy to him.  A man of Dua will never become wretched.
The Immam (a.s.) was asked: “Two worshippers begin their prayer at the same time.  One of them recites more verses from the Holy Qur’an and the other has more Dua.  They complete their prayers at the same time.  Which is more virtuous?   The Immam (a.s.) said: “Both are good and virtuous”.  But still the person wanted to know which one is better.  The Immam (a.s.) said: “ Dua is better.  Have you heard Allah (swt) saying: Call upon Me; I will answer you.  I will make enter into the Hell with disgrace those who refrain from worshipping Me.  By Allah Dua is as prayer.  By Allah dua is as the most profound prayer:
Immam (a.s.) also said: Allah inspired Adam (a.s.) saying: “I have collected everything from you in four words.  He said: “My Lord! What are those four words”?  Allah said: The first is due to Me, the second is due to you, the third is between you and Me, and the fourth is between you and people”.  Adam (a.s.) said: “My Lord, make them clear for me: “Allah said “What is due to Me, is your being a servant of Me.  What is due to you is that I will reward your deeds with you what you badly need.  And what concerns you and Me is that you recite Dua and I will answer you.  As for what concerns you and people, wish for others what you wish for yourself.”
The Holy Prophet (s.a.w.a.) said: Two persons whose deeds were the same entered paradise.  But one of the two sees the other superior.  Hence, he asked Allah (swt) My Lord! We have done the same deeds.  What is his superior position for? Allah (swt) said: “He requested from Me but you did not.”  The Holy Prophet (s.a.w.a.) said: “Request from Allah as much as you can for your request is not great for Allah.”   He further stated that “Request from Allah so that He will grant it.  Allah bestows blessings upon a group of His servants in return for their deeds and to another group in return for their sincere Duas.  Then He will gather both groups in Paradise.  The first group will say: “Our Lord! We were men of good deeds and You granted our requests but how about these people?  Allah (swt) will say: These are My servants.  I gave you your rewards fully.  These people too requested from Me and I have them a share of My abundant Grace and Mercy.  I will give to anyone I wish.”

It was one of the most memorable workshops that I have ever conducted. The other day, I asked participants to complete a group activity and share at least one heart touching story. One of the weakest groups shared a story that re-touched my heart and made me feel some tears in my eyes.

Thought to share what I heard the other day.

They said, An 80 year old man was sitting on the chair in his house along with his 45 years old highly educated son. Suddenly a crow perched on their window.

The Father asked his Son, "What is this?" The Son replied "It is a crow".

After a few minutes, the Father asked his Son the 2nd time, "What is this?" The Son said "Father, I have just now told you "It's a crow".

After a little while, the old Father again asked his Son the 3rd time, What is this?" At this time some expressions of irritation were felt in the Son's tone when he said to his Father with a rebuff. "It's a crow, a crow".

A little after, the Father again asked his Son the 4th time, "What is this?" This time the Son shouted at his Father, "Why do you keep asking me the same question again and again, although I have told you so many times 'IT IS A CROW'. Are you not able to understand this?"

A little later the Father went to his room and came back with an old tattered diary, which he had maintained since his Son was born. On opening a page, he asked his Son to read that page. When the son read it, the following words were written in the diary:-

"Today my little son aged three was sitting with me on the chair, when a crow was sitting on the window. My Son asked me 23 times what it was, and I replied to him all 23 times that it was a Crow. I hugged him lovingly each time he asked me the same question again and again for 23 times. I did not at all feel irritated I rather felt affection for my innocent child".

One of the group members ended the story with a hand-written note, “I wish if my parents were alive – I need to sorry them”

Well, not surprisingly I found few participants literally crying after this story and two of them left the conference room and didn’t come back. I don’t know why.

What I understood is, while the little child asked him 23 times "What is this", the Father had felt no irritation in replying to the same question all 23 times and when today the Father asked his Son the same question just 4 times, the Son felt irritated and annoyed.

If your parents attain old age, do not repulse them or look at them as a burden, but speak to them a gracious word, be cool, obedient, humble and kind to them. Be considerate to your parents.

From today say this aloud, "I want to see my parents happy forever. They have cared for me ever since I was a little child. They have always showered their selfless love on me. They crossed all mountains and valleys without seeing the storm and heat to make me a person presentable in the society today".

Say a prayer to God, "I will serve my old parents in the BEST way. I will say all good and kind words to my dear parents, no matter how they behave.

  • The day you find that we have become very old , try to have some patience with us and try to understand us.

  • If we get dirty while eating …  If we have some difficulty dressing… be patient! Remember the hours that we spent teaching you these things when you were small.

  • If we repeat the same thing dozens of time, do not interrupt us! When you were small, you wanted us to tell you the same story again and again until you fell asleep. And we did it happily!

  • By seeing our ignorance of new technologies, do not laugh at us but give me time to understand these.

  • If we do not wash ourselves so often under the shower, do not reprimand and do not tell us that it is a shame. Remember how many excuses we had to invent to make you take a bath when you were small.

  • We taught you so many things …. to eat well …to dress well… to behave well… how to confront the problems of the life … Help us in the same way as when we held your hands to teach you take your first steps.

  • If we sometimes lose memory or are not able to follow a conversation, give us the necessary time to recollect and if we do not get there, do not become nervous and arrogant person because the most important thing for us… is to be with you and to be able to speak to you.

  • You do not have to feel sad, unfortunate or incompetent in front of our old age and of our state of mind. You have to stay near us, try to understand what we lived for.

  • Help us enjoy every moment now as after your birth we compromised and lived our lives for you only.

  • Don’t shout at us, we feel running out of home far away from everyone similarly you felt once in your childhood.

  • Don’t panic if you find us sad and quiet. We may not be able to catch the speed of your generation.

  • Help us walk, help us to end our lives with love and patience. The only thing that we need from you is a smile and
    a lot of love.

  • We don’t like the way you talk to us in front of your friends and spouse.

  • Do you still think that we have enough, energy and patience time to compromise more?

  • Try to understand that at certain age, we do not really live any more. We simply survive!

  • We know you don’t like our some friends – You remember, We didn’t like your friends too, but always let you party with them.

  • And when one day, we shall say that we do not want to live any more … that we want to die, do not get angry … because one day, you will also understand!

Parents (Late)
You wish if were alive…

I believe that if you have reached the end, you must be in a different state of mind. Write me an email now and share what you feel and then go back to parents and hug them.

Arthur Ashe, the legendary Wimbledon player was dying of AIDS which he got due to infected blood he received during a heart surgery in 1983. From world over, he received letters from his fans, one of which  conveyed: "Why does GOD have to select you for such a bad disease"?

To this Arthur Ashe replied: The world over -- 5 million children start playing tennis, 50 thousand learn to play tennis, 5 thousand learn professional tennis, 50,000 come to the circuit, 5000 reach the grand slam, 50 reach Wimbledon, 4 to semi final, 2 to the finals, When I was holding a cup I never asked GOD "Why me?". And today in pain I should not be asking GOD "Why me?"

Amazing Findings of Holy Quran!
STATISTICAL MIRACLES OF QURAN

Quran is the only book on the face of the earth that starts with the most daring and challenging claim in Surah Al Baqarah verse 2 that THERE IS NO DOUBT ABOUT THIS BOOK.

Besides its various miracles, one finds very interesting statistical facts in it. Few are mentioned here:

1. It is written in Quran in Surah Aal Imran verse 59 that THE CASE OF ADAM IS SIMILAR TO THAT OF JESUS IN FRONT OF ALLAH. then the names of both the messengers have appeared in Quran in DIFFERENT PLACES and in DIFFERENT CONTEXT. but Adam (AS)'s name appeared 25 times and Jesus (AS)'s name also appeared 25 times simply because Allah said they are similar!

2. Allah said in surah Al Baqarah that RIBA (interest/mark up) is not similar to Bai'e (trade) therefore the word Trade appeared 6 times while Riba appeared 7 times!

3. In Quran, Al-yaum (days) appeared 365 times, Al-shahr (month) 12 times.

4. Quran says that the life of this world is a pair of the life of here after, therefore the word Ad-Dunya (This World) appeared 115 times and Al-Aakhira (The Hereafter) also 115 times!

5. word for angels (Al- malaikah) came 88 times and that for satans (shayateen) also for 88 times!

6. Quran says that every living creature has to die. thus Al-Hayat (Life) came 145 times and Al-Maut (Death) also came 145 times!

7. Quran is the only religious scripture which gives over all equal rights to both men and women. thus Al-Rajul (Man) came 24 times and Al-Nisaa (Women) also came 24 times!

8. Quran says "to every nation or a tribe have we sent a messenger" so the word People (Qaum) came 50 times and Messenger (Rasul) also appeared 50 times!

9. Quran says in Surah Al Hujraat verse 15 that the compulsory condition for a person to be a Muslim/Momin is Jehad (struggle in the way of Islam) thus the word Muslim came 41 times and Jihad 41 times!

10. Quran mentions the word Zakat 32 times and also Barakah 32 times

11. AND A VERY INTERESTING FACT....

Quran uses Al-Bahar (Sea) 32 times and Al-Bar (Land) 13times

If We Add Up The Total Words Of Both "Sea" (32) And "Land"(13) We Get 45.

32 + 13 = 45

Now If We Do A Simple Calculation to find out percentages:

32/45 X 100 % = 71.11% of Water
13/45 X 100 % = 28.88% of Land

which we all know are the exact percentages of water and land on earth respectively!

This is the just one statistical proof that Quran is the word of Allah!

A few Sayings of Imam Jafar Sadiq (peace on him)

  • He who treats people kindly will be accepted as arbiter.
  • To trust everybody in times of injustice and cheating is disability.
  • If problems are added to each other, they will give birth of relief.
  • Islam is a definite rank. Faith is one rank higher than Islam. Conviction is one rank higher than faith. People have been given a rank lower than conviction.
  • The desire for the worldly pleasures causes grief and sadness. Abstinence from the worldly pleasures brings about the rest of both heart and body.
  • He who gains oppression is not gaining welfare. He who mistreats people should not complain when people mistreat him.
  • In homelands, exchanging visits is the means of association. In travel, correspondence is the means of association.
  • A Muslim always has three characteristics: knowledge about the religion, good management of life, and perseverance in the faces of calamities.
  • An actual believer is that whose sexual appetite does not overcome him and whose stomach does not shame him.
  • Enjoining good and forbidding evil should be practiced with a faithful believer that he would learn a lesson, or an ignorant that he would earn. Enjoining good and forbidding evil become surely worthless when they are applied to the powerful tyrants.
  • As some people showed ingratitude for Allah's graces, He changed the graces into crises. As other people showed steadfastness against the misfortunes that inflicted them, Allah changed the misfortunes into graces.
  • Imam As-Sadiq(A.S.) was asked about personality, he answered: Personality stands for that Allah should not see you in situations against which He warned, and miss you in situations of which He ordered.
  • To miss a need is better than asking it from other than its people. Bad mannerism in a misfortune is more catastrophic than the misfortune itself.
  • As a man asked him a short item of instruction that collects the welfare of this world and the world to come, the Holy Imam (A.S.) said: Never tell untruths.
  • Imam As-Sadiq (A.S.) was asked about eloquence. He answered: Eloquence is to express the idea in as few as possible words. The eloquent is that who attains his demand in the least effort.
  • Debt is grief at night and humility in day.
  • Salutation is voluntary while responding is obligatory.
  • Do not answer those who speak before they greet you.
  • Shaking hands is the perfect greeting of the resident and embracement is the perfect greeting of the traveler.
  • Fear Allah even if to some extent. Construct a screen between Him and you even if transparent.
  • As for those who control themselves in rage, desire, fear, and lust, Allah will prevent Hell from burning their bodies.
  • Everything has limits. The limit of conviction is not to fear anything besides Allah.
  • The (Faithful) believer should enjoy eight characters; he should be venerable in shaking situations, steadfast against misfortunes, thankful in luxury, satisfied with what Allah has decided to him, avoid oppressing the enemies, avoid over tasking the associates, should fatigue his body, and make people feel glad with him.
  • Knowledge is the comrade of the faithful believer, clemency is his supporter, patience is the commander of his army, lenience is his brother, and charity is his father.
  • As for those who practice without guidance, they are like him who walks without choosing a definite path. The more he walks, the remoter he becomes.
  • He who recognizes Allah accurately will fear Him. He who fears Allah accurately will disregard the worldly pleasures.
  • The actual fearful is that who cannot speak due to the intensity of fear.
  • We love those who are intelligent. Knowledgeable, perceptive, expert, clement, courteous, patient, veracious, and loyal. Allah gave the noble characters exclusively to the prophets(a.s). He who enjoys such characters should thank Allah for them. He who does not enjoy them should supplicate to Allah for them. As he was asked about these noble characters, Imam As-Sadiq(A.S.) said: The noble characters are piety, satisfaction, patience, gratefulness, clemency, pudency, generosity, bravery, enthusiasm, veracity, charity, fulfillment of the trusts, conviction, good mannerism, and chivalry.
  • Favor is well-known. Except its reward, nothing is better than doing favor.
  • The world is the believer's jail, patience is his fortress, and Paradise is his abode. The world is the disbeliever's paradise, grave is his jail, and Hell is his abode.
  • Whenever you see a servant (of Allah) pursuing people's flaws and neglecting his own flaws, you should then realize that he has been trapped (by the Shaitan).
  • The server of food who thanks (Allah for so) will be rewarded as same as those who fast just for gaining the rewards of Allah, and the individual who is cured and thanks (Allah for curing him) will be rewarded as same as the diseased one who is steadfast against that disease (for the sake of Allah).
  • You should not trust the betrayer after you had tested him and you should not accuse him whom you trusted.
  • Fear of Allah is sufficient knowledge and deceit is sufficient ignorance.
  • The best adoration is to know Allah and behave humbly with Him.
  • Beware of associating with the lowly, because the association with them will never lead to welfare.
  • To wear rings on the fingers is a prophetic tradition.
  • The most favorable friend to me is that who shows me my flaws.
  • Friendship is nil unless its limits are kept. He who does not keep these limits should not be regarded as friend. The first limit is that the inner self and the appearance should be identical. The second limit is that the friend should regard your goodness as his goodness and your evil as his evil. The third limit of friendship is that a position or fortunes should not change the friend's relation with his friends. The fourth limit is that the friend should not deprive his friend of anything that he is capable of doing. The fifth limit which is the most comprehensive is that the friend should never leave his friend alone in calamities.
  • There is no difference between depositing a trust with a betrayer or a negligent.
  • Imam As-Sadiq(A.S.) said to Al-Mufaddal: I instruct you to stick on six characters and relate them to my adherents.. You should fulfill the trust of him who entrusts you with anything. You should like for your brother whatever you like for yourself. You should know that every matter has an end; therefore, you should beware of the outcomes of matters. Similarly, every matter has a sudden event; hence, beware of the sudden events. Beware of climbing an easy mountain if its slope is uneven. Never promise your brother of a matter that you cannot fulfill.
  • People are equal like the teeth of a comb. With the support of his brothers, a man can be regarded as great. No goodness is expected in the friendship of those who do not like for their friends whatever they like for themselves.
  • You should regard him who became angry with you three times without addressing any bad saying to you as a true friend.
  • You will not be faithful believer before you become fearful and hopeful. You will not be fearful and hopeful before you work for what you fear and hope.
  • Faith is not identified through outer appearances and hopes. Faith is that which is pure in the hearts and assured by deeds.
  • Whenever Allah opens a door to the worldly pleasures, He will open to acquisitiveness.
  • The believer is strange in this world. He should not feel worry of its humility and should not compete with its people for gaining its honor.
  • Hasty walking removes the believer's brightness and extinguishes their illumination.
  • Rage eliminates the intelligence of the wise. He who cannot control his rage will not be able to control his mind.
  • The niggardly is that who gains wealth illegally and spends it unsuitably.
  • Good mannerism is a part of the religion. It increases the earnings.
  • Morals are of two forms: one is intent while the other is nature. Imam As-Sadiq(A.S.) was asked, "Which of them is better than the other?" He answered: The intentional morals are better than the natural, because the owner of natural morals cannot change them, while the owner of the intentional morals is preserving the acts of obedience (to Allah).
  • The actual generous charitable individual is that who spends his wealth for fulfilling the rights of Allah.
  • You should know that I will fulfill the trust of even the killer of Ali (A.S.) if he deposits something with me or seeks my advice of consultation.
  • Sufian said: I asked Abu-Abdullah (A.S.) whether it is acceptable to praise oneself or not. He answered: It is acceptable to praise oneself in cases of necessity. Joseph the prophet (A.S.) said: Put me in charge of the treasuries of the land. I know how to manage them. (Holy Qur'an 12:55). The virtuous servant (of Allah) also said: I am a trustworthy advisor for you. (Holy Qur'an 7:68).
  • Mohammed bin Qays said: I asked Abu-Abdullah(A.S.) whether it is acceptable to sell weapon to the two parties both of whom are wrong. Holy Imam(A.S.) said: Sell to them only defensive weapons.
  • Allah gives the worldly pleasures to those whom He loves as well as those whom He dislikes, while He gives the faith only to whom He selects among the creatures.
  • Abu-Baseer related: I asked Abu-Abdullah (A.S.) about faith and Islam. He answered: Faith is the avoidance of acts of disobedience to Allah. Islam is to practice our rites and slaughter animals as we do.
  • Bad-temperedness, bad humor, envy, obduracy, fabrication and oppression these six characters should never be in the believers behavior.
  • The believer should live between two fears the past sin that he does not know what Allah will do about it and the remaining days that he does not know what misfortunes he will encounter during them. Thus, the believer begins his day fearfully and ends his day fearfully. Except fear, nothing mends the believer.
  • You will not be regarded as (true) believers before you see the misfortunes as graces and the luxury as disaster.
  • The best deeds of the servants are three: they are to treat the believers fairly, to console the friends, and to mention Allah in every situation. Some asked: "What is the meaning of mentioning Allah in every situation?" The Imam (A.S.) answered: This means to mention Allah when you want to commit a sin so that He will prevent you from committing it.
  • Beware of joking, because it causes rancor and drives into malice. Joking is the lesser revilement.
  • Younus related: Before Imam as-Sadiq(A.S.) I said: My loyalty to you - the Holy Prophet's family - and recognition of your rights are most favorable to me than this world with all of its insides." I noticed the Holy Imam (A.S.) was enraged. After a while, he (A.S.) said: O Younus, you have evaluated us in an improper measurement. What is the world and what are its insides? It is no more than relief of a trouble or screening of a defect. By loyalty to us, you are gaining the endless life.
  • In misfortunes, Imam As-Sadiq(A.S.) used to say: All praise is due to Allah Who did not make my misfortune in my religious affairs. All praise is due to Allah Who could, if He willed, make my misfortune more catastrophic than what it is now. All praise is due to Allah for the matter that He willed to be, and it was as He willed.
  • If the world advances to some people, it will garb them with the others' charms. If it leaves some people, it usurps their own charms.
  • Daughters are advantages and sons are graces. You will be rewarded for the advantages and asked about the graces.
  • If a believer leaves behind a sheet of paper on which some knowledge is written, this very sheet of paper will serve as a wall between him and the Hell and against each letter written on it.

Bahrain: We must speak out about brutality in the Gulf

To have different levels of tolerance for different despots raises awkward questions

One obvious lesson for the west from recent upheaval in the Middle Eastis that propping up authoritarian regimes on the grounds that they make stable allies is a terrible policy.
The stability procured by despotism is an illusion. Brittle police states can contain, but never satisfy, a captive people's appetite for better lives. Eventually, they shatter and the more rigid the apparatus of repression, the more explosive the change when it comes.
That has been demonstrated clearly enough in North Africa and yet the west struggles to apply the lesson to the Arabian Peninsula. The contagious spirit of democratic springtime that provoked protests in Tunisia, Egypt and Libya also reached Bahrain, Yemen, Saudi Arabia. But there the west has been markedly less inclined to cheer it on.
The Observer carries the chilling testimony of a young Bahraini caught up in the small Gulf kingdom's brutal crackdown on civil dissent. It is a story that struggles to be heard as foreign media are increasingly denied access to the country and the local press is muzzled.
As many as 30 people are thought to have been killed as anti-government demonstrations have been violently suppressed. Hundreds of protesters have been detained and employees have been dismissed from state-owned enterprises in a move to purge dissent.
As our report makes clear, the unrest is increasingly sectarian in character. The Khalifa royal family and ruling elite are Sunni, while the majority of the population is Shia. That religious, cultural and economic division was politicised before the current crackdown, with the main parliamentary opposition coming from Shia parties. The government has flirted with a plan to ban those groups on the grounds of "disrespect for constitutional institutions". There has been widespread intimidation and abuse of Shia communities, carried out in part by security forces "invited" from neighbouring Saudi Arabia.
It would be unfair to say that the violence carried out by Bahraini authorities has passed entirely without comment from the UK. There have been pained expressions of discomfort and urgings of restraint on all sides.
Elsewhere in the region, those noises were precursors to more robust language. But in the Gulf there is a subtle difference of tone. In a statement to Parliament, William Hague, foreign secretary, was keen to recognise "important political reforms" which he welcomed in the context of "the long friendship between Bahrain and the UK".
Why does this Gulf regime get the benefit of the doubt when other authoritarian Arab rulers do not? Clearly, there is no question of intervention in Bahrain or in any other state where protest is being crushed. The entanglement in Libya leaves no appetite for giving active support, whether diplomatic or military, to other rebellions.
If only one villain in the region had to be singled out for attack, Colonel Gaddafi was surely the most deserving candidate. But to have different levels of tolerance for different despots still raises awkward questions about Britain's role in the region. It plainly compromises the government's credentials as an advocate for democracy.
There are many reasons for western reluctance to criticise Gulf rulers, but two stand out: oil and Iran.
The latter's aspirations to be a regional superpower, armed with nuclear weapons, is the source of perpetual anxiety in much of the Middle Eastand in every western capital. Iran has a proven record of exporting aggressive Shia fundamentalism, chiefly by sponsoring Hezbollah in Lebanon, but also by fomenting insurgency in southern Iraq. As a result, Sunni Arab regimes and their western allies assume Iranian mischief when Shia communities get restive – as in Bahrain.
That fear is eagerly stoked by the Gulf monarchies and emirates, largely without evidence, but safe in the knowledge that Washington and London are allergic to the suggestion of Tehran's advancing influence.
The main strategic bulwark against Iranian power is Saudi Arabia, which happens also to be the world's largest oil exporter. It is hardly a coincidence that the Saudis are keen buyers of British military exports and close partners in antiterrorism operations. It is easy enough to see the immediate utility of this relationship, but it is ultimately toxic. The Saudi regime is an unstable mix of ferocious religious zealotry and hypocritical monarchial decadence. It has no interest in or agenda for democracy and yet it is our key ally in the Middle East.
That partnership has a corrupting influence on commercial relationships and moral judgements. It is the reason why Saudi troops can enter Bahrain and carry out thuggish acts with impunity. Their weapons might well have been made in the UK. There is nothing new in the accusation that the west operates "double standards" in foreign policy. Plainly it does. The only defence is that inconsistency does not rule out an authentic aspiration to do the right thing, at least some of the time. It is surely better to encourage the spread of democracy where strategic calculations allow than to abandon it as a goal altogether because it cannot be universally applied.
That is not an excuse for turning a blind eye to repression in Bahrain. The policy contortions and contradictions Britain has been forced into in recent weeks must serve as a warning. Our reliance on regimes that fear and despise democracy is no more sustainable than those regimes are themselves stable. Weaning ourselves from that strategic dependency is the work of many years, possibly decades. But some exit route must be mapped.
Meanwhile, it is not sufficient to mutter only mild disapproval when our allies murder their citizens.
When first confronted by Arab political revolutions, Britain vacillated, reluctant to abandon useful and grubby friendship with corrupt regimes. It should never have required such a complicated effort of calculation to support vocally and unequivocally those forces in oppressed societies who want civil rights, political pluralism and democracy.
Having belatedly found that voice in North Africa, it would be a strategic error and a moral failure immediately to let it fall silent in the Gulf.

Sean Hannity, Keith Ellison Have Fiery Clash About Muslims

Huffington Post
Sean Hannity and Rep. Keith Ellison engaged in a heated debate about Muslims on Hannity's Wednesday show. The conversation touched on several very contentious issues, such as the proposed Islamic center near Ground Zero, the 9/11 attacks and the notion that America is "at war" with "radical Islam." Ellison, the first Muslim to be elected to Congress, and Hannity spent much of their time talking over each other. The debate lasted around 15 minutes, but the most fiery clashes came in the second half.

Quran-burning Pastor Will Face Trial

A Quran-burning pastor will face a trial this afternoon, after refusing to pay a bond ordered by a judge for his planned Good Friday protest of the Islamic Center of North America. Terry Jones' decision came after Judge Mark Somers of 19th District Court in Dearborn ruled that prosecutors proved beyond a reasonable doubt that Jones' planned demonstration on a small median outside the Ford Road mosque could breach the peace. "I'm not surprised," by the ruling, Jones said. He opted for the trial after Somers said he could either pay the unspecified bond or face trial.

Doctors ‘disappeared’ as Bahrain cracks down after protests

MiniVan News
Authorities in Bahrain have arrested 32 doctors including surgeons, physicians, paediatricians and obstetricians following its crackdown on Shia-led protests last month. The UK’s Independent newspaper reported that one doctor was arrested while operating on a patient while another, an intensive care specialist, was detained after a photograph was published of her weeping over a dead protester. Many of the doctors were ‘disappeared’, with their locations and condition unknown to their families. Four detainees have died in police custody following the riots in February.

World's unions call for ending attack on Bahrain labor

As of April 20, the authorities in Bahrain have launched an all-out attack on the Bahraini trade union movement. Thousands of workers have been dismissed for taking part in trade union activities in support of the peaceful calls for greater democracy and reform. Many of the Executive members of the General Federation of Bahraini Trade Unions have been dismissed from their jobs, as have many local trade union leaders. The people of Bahrain are living in a state of fear of further killings and other violence, arbitrary detention, and loss of their livelihoods. Bahrain is sliding into absolute dictatorship, and the elimination of trade union activity is being given a high priority by those in the ruling circles who intend to complete the transformation of the country into a totalitarian state.

Combining a reality TV format with Islamic teachings, the "Imam Muda" or "Young Imam" show is a talent contest for male Muslims aged between 18 and 27 who can speak Malay, with the winner crowned an Imam or religious leader. "The end result, we leave it to God but we want to do the best we can to attract youths to be closer to the religion," said Izelan Basar, station manager for the Malaysian satellite television station which produces the show.

New Egypt Seeks to be Islamic Financial Hub
Following the overthrow of President Hosni Mubarak, prospects are rising for Egypt to become a new hub for the booming Islamic finance. "I prefer Islamic finance,” Amal Abbas, a 50-year-old research center manager, told Reuters on Thursday, April 21. “It keeps me far from usury and I feel my money is blessed," said the veiled woman as she waited for her turn to place a deposit at Cairo’s Al Baraka Egypt Bank, one of the country’s two fully-fledged Islamic banks.

Obama has OK'd use of drones in Libya, Gates says

U.S. President Barack Obama has approved the use of armed Predator drones in Libya, Defense Secretary Robert Gates said Thursday. Gates told CNN the unmanned Predators would allow for "some precision capability" against the forces of longtime Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi, and will offer a "modest contribution" to NATO efforts to support Libyan rebels. NATO, meanwhile, has signaled it may ramp up air strikes on Gadhafi's regime. NATO issued a new warning to Libyan civilians to stay away from military areas - foreshadowing plans for attacks on targets seen as strategically significant in stopping the government's attacks against civilians, according to a NATO military official.

Zainab al-Khawaja
Zainab al-Khawaja had been on hunger strike for 10 days in protest at Bahrain soldiers' treatment of her father, husband and brother-in-law. Photograph: Hasan Jamali/AP
Zainab al-Khawaja, the Bahraini human rights activist who witnessed her father, husband and brother-in-law being beaten and imprisoned by masked soldiers earlier this month has ended her hunger strike.
The 27-year-old mother of one told the Guardian that she has decided to stop her 10-day fast after becoming convinced that "being silent in a tomb and not able to speak is not in the interests of my family."
Her decision follows pressure from human rights groups who tried to persuade her to use her voice in support of the protest movement, arguing that the Bahraini government would rather she were dead than alive.
Meanwhile, Khawaja's hopes of seeing her family again were given a boost, after relatives received phonecalls from the authorities on Wednesday indicating that the three men were alive.
Khawaja's husband, Wafi Almajed, called his mother from custody and asked for his father to bring clothes, a toothbrush and shampoo for him to the fort in Manama, the capital.
Bahraini officials also phoned making the same request for Khawaja's brother-in-law, Hussein Ahmed, and asked the family to bring essentials to a military court for her father, Abdulhadi al-Khawaja. The 50-year-old is a prominent critic of the regime who was targeted after he called for the king of Bahrain to face trial. It is thought that Almajed and Ahmed were seized because they were with him at the time.
"We feel so happy," she said. "A few hours ago we were worried if they were dead. At least we know they are OK now. We had very little hope yesterday, so today is a great day."
Zainab al-Khawaja began her hunger strike on 17 April after she described how her father was seized in a violent raid on her home. In the early hours of 10 April, he was "grabbed by the neck, dragged down a flight of stairs and then beaten unconscious in front of me" by at least a dozen masked special forces.
"He never raised his hand to resist them, and the only words he said were: 'I can't breathe,'" she wrote. "Even after he was unconscious, the masked men kept kicking and beating him while cursing and saying that they were going to kill him."
Almost 500 people in Bahrain and around the world have since made pledges to join her in a three-day solidarity hunger strike which was due to end on Wednesday.
Bahrain's ministry of information has failed to answer questions about what had happened to the men for the sixth day running.
Following visits from human rights groups who wanted her to call off the hunger strike, Khawaja started drinking fruit juice and ate a little yoghurt on Wednesday. The decision to end the hunger strike came after her health had deteriorated on Monday and Tuesday, but she stressed this was not the reason for her decision to stop her action.
"Over the last few days my situation was very bad," she said. "I started collapsing every now and then and I had a difficult time speaking. My heart beat very, very fast and I felt I couldn't breathe."
Speaking before Khawaja called off the hunger strike, Nabeel Rajab, president of the Bahrain Centre for Human Rights, said he was among those who had tried to persuade her to stop.
"I said we don't want people dying and suffering," he said. "We are already in misery here and we don't want to see more people lose their life. The government can do that. We are trying to convince her to stop. Her life is too important to us."
Khawaja said she was convinced by international human rights groups to campaign for her family and said she now planned to act as a spokesman for Bahrain's civil and human rights movement.

'Bahrain king puts $42bn in Swiss
WATCH VIDEO ON PRESS TV SITE
The king of Bahrain has transferred billions of dollars to some Swiss bank accounts amid mounting anti-government protests in the Middle Eastern country, a political observer reveals.

“King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa has moved 42 billion dollars into Swiss banks,” Ralph Schoenman, political observer and the author of The Hidden History of Zionism told Press TV on Wednesday.

This is “an indication of their apprehension about their (the ruling family's) ultimate fate,” he further explained.

“The truth of the matter is that these country-selling regimes are the creations of the US ... [and it is the] political power of the imperialism that sustains these regimes,” Schoenman argued.

Bahrain is home to the US Navy Fifth Fleet.

Since mid-February, thousands of anti-government protesters in Bahrain have poured into the streets, calling for an end to al-Khalifa dynasty, which has ruled the country for almost 40 years.

On March 13, Saudi-led forces were dispatched to the Persian Gulf island at Manama's request to quell countrywide protests.

According to local sources, dozens of people have been killed and hundreds arrested so far during the government clampdown on the peaceful demonstrations.

28 mosques razed in Bahrain

A report says 28 mosques and 50 mourning halls have been razed in Bahrain since Feb.
About 28 mosques and 50 mourning halls have been demolished in Bahrain since the beginning of anti-regime protests in February, a report says.

Activists told Press TV on Friday that the mosques were destroyed during the anti-government protests. Some of the mosques were located in Karzakan, Salmabad, Bu Quwah, and A'ali.

Bahraini people have poured to the streets since February 14 to protest against the Al Khalifa dynasty.

The 'Qur'an Friday' rallies have been planned in the Persian Gulf state on April 22 to condemn the deadly Saudi-backed crackdown on the opposition.

In March, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Kuwait deployed their troops in Bahrain to reinforce the brutal armed clampdown against the mass protests.

Scores of protesters have been killed and many others gone missing during the harsh Saudi-backed crackdown in Bahrain.

Head of Bahrain Center for Human Rights Nabeel Rajab said the Manama regime should be held accountable for the ongoing crimes against the protesters.

Despite the Saudi military presence in Bahrain, the government of Bahrain is ultimately responsible for suppressions and persecutions, Rajab said in an interview with Press TV on Wednesday.

The Saudis have committed a lot of crimes, including crimes against humanity, in Bahrain, but the Bahraini government that invited the Saudis to Bahrain is mainly responsible, he added.

Prayers are not answered when they are either made with an insincere and neglectful heart, or the person's prayer is not addressed exclusively to Allah. The prayers of the persons strained with exploitation of others, transgression, and such bad deeds may also not be answered.
"Call upon your Lord humbly and secretly; surely He loves not those who exceed the limit." (7:55)
Sincerity of the heart is a fundamental condition for the acceptance of Du'as. The words being uttered by our mouth must be in harmony with the feelings emanating from our hearts.
Imam as-Sadiq has said: "Verily, Allah does not answer the memorized prayer by a forgetful heart." (Uddat ad-Dai) Imam Ali has said: "Allah does not accept the prayer of an inattentive heart."
Imam as-Sadiq quotes the Holy Prophet as having said, "Allah informed one of his prophets in a revelation: 'By My Power and Dignity! Verily I shall change into despair the hope of everyone who hoped from other than Me, and I shall dress him with the clothing of disgrace before people, and I shall remove him from My relief and bounty. Does my servant put his hope in other than Me in hardships, while hardships are in My hand; And does he expect anything from other than Me, while I am the Self-sufficient, the Munificent? In My hand are the keys of the doors while they are closed; and My door is open for the one who calls on Me.'" (Uddat ad-Dai)
Du'as reinforce our faith, give direction to life, ease difficulties, raise spirits, alleviate the burden of sins, inspire for action with hope, and most importantly, connect us to Our Lord and increase our nearness with Him.

for everyone
Prayers alone are not sufficient. As many traditions from the Holy Prophet and the chaste Ahlul Bayt show, with Du'as, effort is also required. Imam Ali says about practicality and the Du'a: "He who prays but does not make effort is like the one who shoots (an arrow) without the bow-string."

So making efforts as per our capabilities is very much needed with making Du'as. We should utilize all the faculties and capabilities given by Him, and at the same time, have full reliance in His power and ask Him to bestow success in the efforts being made, as the effects of our efforts are dependent on His will. When we are sick, we must visit the doctor and take medicine, but on every step, we should first pray for His guidance and good results, as the medicine or advice of doctor is subject to His will before showing any good results
