ARROGANCE   الكِبرُ

التَّحذِيرُ مِنَ الكِبرِ
Arrogance
1– Ali (AS) said, ‘Take lesson from what Allah did to Satan. He foiled his many deeds and his hardworking efforts…. for being arrogant for an instant! So, who will be saved from Allah with something like his sin?!’[Nahj al-Balagha, Saying 192]
2– Imam al-Baqir (AS) said, ‘If any amount of arrogance enters the heart of a person, it will only bring deficiency to the intellect with the same amount of what entered it, whether it be a little or a lot.’[Bihar al-Anwar, v. 78, p. 186, no. 16]

تَفسيرُ الكِبرِ
The Explanation of Arrogance
5– The Prophet (AS) said, ‘O Abu Dharr, whoever dies having an atom’s weight of arrogance in his heart will never smell the scent of Heaven unless he repents beforehand.’ Abu Dharr asked, ‘O Messenger of Allah, I am fond of beauty so much so that I wished that the handle of my cane and the lace of my sandal be beautiful. So, should I be afraid of this?’ He said, ‘How do you see your heart?’ Abu Dharr said, ‘I see it knowing the Truth, and certain of Him.’ He (SAWA) said, ‘That is not arrogance. Rather, arrogance is that you leave the Truth and exceed beyond Him to other than Him. You look at people and you do not see their__ honour as being like your honour or their blood like yours.’[Bihar al-Anwar, v. 77, p. 90, no. 3]
6– Imam Ali (AS) said, ‘I sought after humility and did not find it other than through accepting the truth. Accept the truth, for accepting the truth distances one from arrogance.’[Bihar al-Anwar, v. 69, p. 399, no. 91]
7– Imam al-Sadiq (AS) narrated, ‘The Prophet (SAWA) said, ‘The worst of arrogance is despising people and depreciating the truth.’ At this, `Aabd al-A`ala b. A`ayan asked, ‘And what is despising people and depreciating the truth?’ He said, ‘It is when one is ignorant of the truth and slanders its people, and whoever does this has wrested Allah of His robe.’[al-Kafi, v. 2, p. 310, no. 9]
8– Imam al-Sadiq (AS) said, ‘Whoever thinks that he is superior to someone else is of the arrogant.’ Abu Hafs b. Ghiyath said, ‘I asked him: [What if] one sees that they are superior in their being good when they see others committing sins?’ The Imam said, ‘Far from it, far from it! For maybe he has been forgiven for what he has done and whilst you will be stopped and held accountable. Have you not read the story of the magicians of Moses (AS) in the Qur’an?’[Bihar al-Anwar, v. 8, p. 128, no. 98]

13– Imam al-Sadiq (AS) said, ‘A person is arrogant or tyrannical only as a result of a [source of] disgrace he has in himself.’[al-Kafi, v. 2, p. 312, no. 17]
عِلاجُ الكِبرِ
Curing Arrogance

16– Abu Umama said, ‘The Prophet (SAWA) left to go to Baqi`a and some of his companions followed him. He stopped and ordered them to proceed and he then walked behind them.

19– Imam Hasan (AS) said, ‘It is not appropriate for he who knows the magnitude of Allah to be haughty, for the glory of those who know the magnitude of Allah is that they become humble, and the honour of those who know the Majesty of Allah is that they humiliate themselves to Him.’[Bihar al-Anwar, v. 78, p. 104, no. 3]

26– Imam al-Kazim (AS) said, ‘A plant grows in a plain-levelled land and does not grow in a hard rocky place. The same goes for wisdom, as it grows in the humble heart and does not grow in the arrogant haughty heart; for Allah has made humbleness the tool for the intellect, and made arrogance the tool for ignorance. Do you not know that he who turns his head up towards the ceiling will break it, and he who lowers his head will be shaded and sheltered underneath it?! Thus, Allah will abase one who is not humble before Him, and Allah will elevate whoever is humble for Him.’[Tuhaf al-`Uqoul, p. 396]

27– Imam al-Sadiq (AS) said, ‘In Hell there is a valley by the name of Saqar reserved for the arrogant, and it complained to Allah about the extremity of its heat and asked Him to be permitted to breathe. So it breathed and ignited Hell.’[al-Kafi, v. 2, p. 310, no. 10]

As Salaam Alaikum,

This week, we face an unusual series of events around the world, that are resulting in tragic consequences for many innocent people, especially in Pakistan. There is massive flooding in Pakistan, such that nearly a 1/3 of the country is literally under water. Whats more is that the water itself is actually a very high temperature, further exacerbating the situation. At the same time, over the border in India - the people are facing an especially dry monsoon season, an apparent contradiction in words. Russia, a former icebox, is so hot that it is actually on fire. Parts of the Greenland ice shelf are plopping into the ocean.

Global warming increases fluxuations in weather patterns to extremes on both sides. Thus, if the scientific data is accurate (and it’s appears overwhelming) more likely than not we could be in for increasing intensities of winters and summers. In fact, the severity of this past winter is another indication of climate change, a la global warming.

Climate model projections summarized in the latest IPCC report indicate that the global surface temperature is likely to rise a further 1.1 to 6.4 °C (2.0 to 11.5 °F) during the 21st century. An increase in global temperature will cause sea levels to rise and will change the amount and pattern of precipitation, probably including expansion of subtropical deserts.
Warming is expected to be strongest in the Arctic and would be associated with continuing retreat of glaciers, permafrost and sea ice. Other likely effects include changes in the frequency and intensity of extreme weather events, species extinctions, and changes in agricultural yields. Warming and related changes will vary from region to region around the globe, though the nature of these regional variations is uncertain. Another major worldwide concomitant of global warming, and one which is presently happening as well as being predicted to continue, is ocean acidification, which is likewise a result of contemporary increases in atmospheric carbon dioxide.
The overwhelming scientific consensus, above 98% of scientists worldwide, is that global warming is occurring. Nevertheless, political and public debate continues. The Kyoto Protocol is aimed at stabilizing greenhouse gas concentration to prevent a "dangerous anthropogenic interference". As of November 2009, 187 states have signed and ratified the protocol.

Muslims fear backlash as festival falls near Sept. 11

LA Times

Citing a growing atmosphere of distrust, especially since the issue of the Islamic center near Ground Zero erupted, some plan to tone down celebrations of Eid al-Fitr, which marks the end of Ramadan. Muslims around the country are expressing similar concerns about the timing of Eid al-Fitr, a three-day festival that marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan and is marked by celebration and gift-giving. "There's … the Islamophobia machine around the country, which would take hold of it and make it look like Muslims are celebrating on that date, when it's purely a coincidence," said Ibrahim Hooper, spokesman for the Council on American-Islamic Relations, a Washington-based civil rights group.

Muslims already pray on sacred 9/11 ground: the Pentagon

Miami Herald

While politicians across the country in an election year may be debating the appropriateness of building a Muslim center, including a mosque, two blocks from the World Trade Center site in New York, there's no such debate at the Pentagon. Instead, roughly 400 worshipers attend Muslim prayer services every week in the chapel, a non-denominational facility built over the rubble left behind when American Airlines Flight 77 slammed into the Pentagon. Opponents of the New York mosque, including former House Speaker Newt Gingrich and former New York Mayor Rudolph Giuliani, say it would be disrespectful of those killed on Sept. 11, 2001, to allow Muslims to pray near the World Trade Center site. That's never been an issue at the Pentagon, where 125 people who worked there died that day. Muslims have been praying at the Pentagon's 9/11 chapel since 2002, gathering every day at 2 p.m. around the time of the second of five prayers Muslims are supposed to offer daily.

Bahrain intensifies crackdown on activists and clerics

Amnesty International

Amnesty International calls on the Bahraini authorities to reveal the whereabouts of eight human rights defenders, political activists and Shia clerics arrested in a clampdown by the authorities amid fears that they could be prisoners of conscience. Muhammad Saeed, a board member of the banned Bahrain Centre for Human Rights was arrested at his home in Sehla, northern Bahrain, in the early hours of yesterday morning by security forces. Two others, Abdulhadi al-Mokhoder and Mirza al-Mahrus, both clerics, were also arrested yesterday at their homes in Sanabis, and Manama, respectively.  “The Bahraini authorities must make it clear why these eight men have been arrested, and either release them or charge them with recognizable criminal offences. It is unacceptable for them to be held merely because of their human rights activism, non-violent political activities or criticism of the government,” said Hassiba Hadj Sahraoui, Deputy Director at Amnesty International’s Middle East and North Africa programme

Yemeni Shiite freedom fighters have held 228 soldiers and pro-government militants captive after they seized an army base in the country's troubled north, the Higher Security Committee confirmed on Saturday. "Houthi elements (Shiite freedom fighters) besieged Zalaa army base in the northern district of Harf Sufian of Amran province for two months before they took it over on July 26," the committee said in a statement carried by the Yemeni Defense Ministry. The Zalaa army base in Amran overlooks a main highway linking capital Sanaa and northern Saada province which bordering neighboring oil rich exporter Saudi Arabia.

Muslims enter holy month of Ramadan amid flood mishap in NW China

Asia News

Ding is a Muslim of the Hui ethnic group in Jianxin Village, Tongxin County of northwest China's Ningxi Hui Autonomous Region. She was supposed to enter the holy month one day earlier, but a sudden rain-triggered flood disturbed the event. She and more than 1,000 others were evacuated to a temporary shelter at a primary school at Tongxin' s Hexi Town, and among them, more than 300 are Muslims. The meal time had been adjusted to respect the dining habit of Muslims during the holy month, said Ma Honghai, acting chief of Tongxin County.
Japan Muslims worried by graveyard shortage
Yomiuri

Many Muslims in Japan, where space is at a premium, have expressed worry about graveyard shortages, because Islamic principles stipulate deceased Muslims should be buried without cremation. New graveyard sites are difficult to obtain, as local ordinances in many parts of the nation prohibit burial without cremation, as well as due to opposition from local residents. Though national laws do not prohibit burial without cremation, many local governments, including those of Tokyo, Osaka and Nagoya, cite sanitary reasons in prohibiting the practice via ordinances and other forms of regulation. Worries have increased among Muslims about places for eternal rest in Japan. In 2006, a male Muslim in Sapporo died, leaving his wife and three small children. His Muslim friends collected donations to bury the body. They managed to obtain permission from a cemetery in Yoichicho, Hokkaido.

Senegal Muslim clerics call for power bill boycott

Reuters

Some of Senegal's influential Muslim clerics have called on residents of Dakar to refuse to pay their electricity bills, in an escalation of protests against rolling power cuts in the West African nation. Senegal is experiencing the worst season of power cuts in decades, sparking a number of street protests and complaints from businesses that their running costs are escalating. Samuel Sarr, minister of energy, has apologised to the nation after being summoned before parliament, and blamed the spike in power cuts on contaminated fuel. But his promises of a return to normal service by mid-August have convinced few. Muslim community to plant 10,000 trees

Daily Monitor

The Uganda Muslim Supreme Council will this year plant trees to increase the absorption of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere in an effort to fight climate change. The project dubbed “Green Friday”, which was launched yesterday in partnership with British Council and National Forestry Authority (NFA), will see 10,000 trees planted by Muslim communities. “Climate change is a great threat to humanity today with many adverse effects on lives and property through the shift in rainfall patterns, droughts, flooding and landslides and has accelerated the spread of diseases like malaria,” said Hajjat Sebyala Aphwa, British Council climate change icon. She said the recent increase in industrialisation and deforestation has accelerated the rate of global warming. She said the problem of climate change, which is worsening every day, needs a combined effort from all partners including religious leaders, who should spread message of environmental conservation.

Nutritional Steps to Get Healthy Nails – Diet and Tips

Do you know that your fingernails and toenails can indicate potential problems in other parts of your body? Healthy nails should typically sport a pink hue, but sometimes they may change in tone and texture, signifying a deficiency in certain vitamins, minerals and nutrients.

If you keep your nails healthy and strong, you should notice changes in the composition and color of your nails. Keeping your nails healthy holds a twofold benefit ? gorgeous fingertips and tootsies and a helpful clue to learn if anything might be wrong elsewhere in your body. And while we don?t necessarily think of nails as gauges of our health in most cases, we sure do love getting dolled up and showing them off!

To begin your quest for healthy nails, first make a commitment to eating healthier foods. You can still enjoy the foods you love, but you should make a conscious effort to consume healthy fruits and vegetables, nuts, fish and eggs, among other nail-friendly foods.

Enjoy these great foods for healthy nails:

* Apples

* Asparagus
*
* Brown rice

* Cucumbers

* Eggs

* Garlic

* Grapes

* Liver

* Nuts

* Onions

* Salmon

* Seeds

* Soy

* Tuna

* Whole grains

If you want healthy, strong and beautiful nails that last, don?t stop with diet. Make some minor changes in your life and you can enjoy lovely nails without the price tag that comes with a trip to the nail salon. Avoid biting your nails, buff away rough edges when necessary and make a few other small changes to achieve the perfect nails you?ve always wanted.

For Great Nails, Follow These Simple Tips:

Consume foods containing calcium and zinc. Calcium effectively promotes nail growth. (You know those little white spots that show up on your nails in funny places sometimes? Those spots mean you aren?t getting enough zinc in your diet.)

* Consume less sugar and less alcohol.

* Do not use your nails as tools. No picking, plucking, poking, prying?

* Don?t bite your nails. Try applying nail polish or painting a bitter-tasting liquid to the nails. Such products have been specially designed to help people quit their nail-biting habits.

* Don?t remove hangnails by pulling at them. Gently clip them with manicure scissors to prevent damage to your skin and tissue.

* Eat fewer saturated fats.

* Ensure that you consume enough protein.

* Increase your intake of Vitamins A, B, C, D and E.

* Keep your nails short to prevent breakage.

* Leave your cuticles alone.

* Moisturize your nails often. When you apply lotion to your hands, legs or other areas, be sure to rub a little bit into your nails.

* Reduce the amount of dairy in your diet.

* Trim nails regularly, as needed. Use an emery board or nail file to smooth rough edges after trimming and when a nail breaks.

If you want to have beautiful healthy nails, it may not cost you a trip to the salon. Commit to a healthier diet, better habits and pick up some pretty nail polish for an at-home manicure. With a little time, discipline and dedication, you can enjoy healthy, strong and shiny nails with little effort.

Salam Alikum Dear Believers,
LADY_KHADIJALADY KHADIJA (peace be upon her)

"Islam did not rise except through Ali's sword and Khadija's wealth," a saying goes. Khadija al-Kubra belonged to the clan of
Banu Hashim of the tribe of Banu Asad. She was a distant cousin of her husband the Messenger of Allah Muhammad ibn Abdullah, Allah's peace and blessings be upon him and his progeny. According to a number of sources, Khadija was born in 565 A.D. and died one year before the Hijra (migration of the Holy Prophet and his followers from Mecca to Medina) in 623 A.D. at the age of 58, but some historians say that she lived to be 65.

Although the society in which Khadija was born was a terribly male chauvinistic one, Khadija earned two titles: Ameerat-Quraysh, Princess of Quraysh, and al-Tahira, the Pure One, due to her impeccable personality and virtuous character, not to mention her honorable descent. She used to feed and clothe the poor, assist her relatives financially, and even provide for the marriage of those of her kin who could not otherwise have had means to marry.

One particular quality in Khadija was quite interesting, probably more so than any of her other qualities mentioned above: she, unlike her people, never believed in nor worshipped idols. There was a very small number of Christians and Jews in Mecca, and a fairly large number of Jews in Medina.
Waraqah ibn Nawfal, one of Khadija's cousins, had embraced Christianity and was a pious monk who believed in the Unity of the Almighty, just as all early Christians did.

Since Khadija did not travel with her trade caravans, she had always had to rely on someone else to act as her agent to trade on her behalf and to receive an agreed upon commission in return. In 595 A.D., Khadija needed an agent to trade in her merchandise going to Syria, and it was then that a number of agents whom she knew before and trusted, as well as some of her own relatives, particularly
Abu Talib, suggested to her to employ her distant cousin Muhammad ibn Abdullah (pbuh) who, by then, had earned the honoring titles of al-Sadiq, the truthful, and al-Amin, the trustworthy.

The profits Khadija reaped from that trip were twice as much as she had anticipated.
Waraqah ibn Nawfal adhered to the Nestorian Christian sect. He heard the accounts about the personality and conduct of young Muhammad (pbuh) from both his cousin Khadija and her servant Maysarah, an account which caused him to meditate for a good while and think about what he had heard. Raising his head, he said to Khadija, "Such manners are fit only for the
messengers of God." This statement was confirmed a few years later, and Waraqah was the very first man who identified Muhammad (pbuh) as the Messenger of Allah immediately after Muhammad (pbuh) received the first revelation at Hira cave.

The marriage was a very happy one, and it produced a lady who was one of the four perfect women in all the history of mankind: Fatima daughter of Muhammad (pbuh).

It was only natural for Khadija to receive her share of the harassment meted to him by none other than those who, not long ago, used to call him al-Sadiq, al-Amin. Khadija did not hesitate to embrace Islam at all, knowing that her husband could not have put forth any false claim.

Among Khadija's merits was her being one of the four most perfect of all women of mankind, the other three being: Fatima daughter of Muhammad (pbuh), Maryam bint `Umran (Mary daughter of Amram), mother of Christ (as) and niece of prophet Zakariyya and Ishba (Elizabeth), and `Asiya daughter of Muzahim, wife of Pharaoh.

Khadija died of an attack of fever on the tenth or eleventh day of the month of
Ramadan, ten years after the start of the Prophetic mission (in the year 619 A.D.), 24 years after her marriage with Muhammad (pbuh), and she was buried at Hajun in the outskirts of Mecca. The Messenger of Allah (pbuh) dug her grave and buried her... Funeral prayers (salat al janaza) had not yet been mandated in Islam. It is reported that by the time she died, her entire wealth had already been spent to promote Islam; she left not a single gold dinar nor a single silver dirham, nor anything more or less...

ABU_TALIBABU TALIB (peace be upon him)

For forty-three years, Abu Talib remained under the tutelage of his father, `Abd al-Muttalib, and acquired from him his learning in literature, poetry and other disciplines. In his time, he was a well-known poet. Besides this, he possessed an impressive and handsome personality. He combined in his person the Hashemite dignity and Qurayshi opulence. When he talked, pearls of knowledge flowed from his tongue. He was the inheritor of the high morals and character of his forbears and in the progeny of `Abd al-Muttalib he was the closest to the traits of his illustrious father.

Although the monetary status of Abu-Talib was weak, he provided to the weak and the poor. For the Hajjis he used to get the food prepared with great care and interest He used to arrange big containers of water and to render it sweet, he used to mix dates and raisins in the water.

Abu-Talib had a very kind heart and was always affected with the hardship and troubles of others. Because of this trait in his nature, there always used to be a number of needy persons calling at his place almost every day. He was always keen to help them.

Besides these merits, his ancestral connections and the unique privilege of being the mentor and the guardian of the Prophet of Islam (a.s) singles him out from all his contemporaries. The Prophet (a.s), posthumous born that he was, grew under his tutelage and spent most of his years with him. When the Prophet (a.s) was six years old, he lost his mother and after another two years, his doting grandfather too expired. The grandfather put the child in the trust of his uncle, Abu-Talib.

Abu-Talib had made a deep study of the ways of Muhammad (a.s) from his very childhood.
He never played or cavorted like any other children would. He had no taste for sight seeing. Neither he was harsh to anyone nor did he ever play any childish pranks. All these observations impressed Abu-Talib so much that he realized that the child was far above the ordinary children of his age. Therefore, besides his familial love for the child, he developed an inexplicable respect for him! This affection and respect was behind his willingness to make any sacrifices for Muhammad (a.s) as years went by.

The way Abu-Talib dedicated himself wholeheartedly to the protection and care of Muhammad (a.s), a rational mind will think that if he was not convinced of the veracity of the Prophet's Mission, he would not have gone to the lengths in his support that he did. He was doing this at the cost of his comfortable life and the eminence that he had in that nomadic society. This is clear evidence that his heart was radiant with the light of Faith and there were the imprints of belief in Allah and His Prophet (a.s) in his psyche.

Guarding the Tongue

The other offences of the tongue, in addition to them being types of oppression (which itself, according to reason and religion, is forbidden), have also been prohibited in Islamic sources under their very names. Some examples are given below:

1.Allah the Most High said: “O you who believe, letnot (one) people laugh at (another) people, perchance they may be better than they, nor let women (laugh) at (other) women, perchance they may be better than they; and do not find fault with other people, nor call one another by nicknames; evil is a bad name after faith, and whoever does not repent, he it is who is unjust.”2. The Holy Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w.a.) said: “Anyonewho makes light of a poor believing Muslim, he has made light of Allah Himself, and Allah will make light of him on the Day of Resurrection if he does not repent. Anyone who respects a poor believing Muslim, he will meet Allah on the Day of Resurrection while He is pleased with him. Indeed anyone who respects his believing Muslim brother, he respects Allah the Almighty.”3. He (s.a.w.a.) also said: “Anyone who abases a poorbelieving Muslim for his poverty and makes light of him, he has made light of Allah and remains in the wrath of Allah until he goes to one whom he has wronged and apologizes to him and the other becomes pleased with him.”4. He (s.a.w.a.) also said: “Allah said: 'Anyone whoabases my believing servant, he has declared war against Me'.”5. He (s.a.w.a.) also said: “Anyone who annoys abeliever, Allah annoys him; and anyone who saddens a believer, Allah will bring sadness to him.”6. He (s.a.w.a.) also said: “Anyone who glares at abeliever with a look to frighten him, Allah will frighten him on the Day when there is no shelter except His own.”7. He (s.a.w.a.) also said: “The entire being of a believer is a sanctuary that is his prestige, his property and his life.”8. He (s.a.w.a.) also said: “Insulting a believer is agreat transgression and fighting him is unbelief, eating his flesh (backbiting him) is a sin, and respecting his property is like respecting his life.”9. He (s.a.w.a.) also said: “Anyone who rebukes theslightest fault of a believer will not die until he himself commits that fault.”10. Imam Muhammad al-Baqir (a.s.) said: “Beware ofbeing snide to the believers.”11. He (a.s.) also said: “There is no one who is snidein the presence of a believer except that he dies with the worst kind of death, and wilt not be given the grace to be on the path of accomplishing good actions.”12. Imam Ja'far al-Sadiq (a.s.) said: “Do not disregarda poor believing Muslim; because anyone who disregards or makes light of him will he disregarded by Allah.”13. He (a.s.) also said: “Anyone who disregards abeliever whether poor or not, Allah disregards him until he ceases his action.”14. He (a.s.) also said: “Allah has said: 'Let anyonewho annoys My believing servant announce a war against Me, and let anyone who respects My believing servant be safe from My anger.'”15. Imam Ja'far al-Sadiq (a.s.) said: “Surely cursingwhen uttered by the cursor moves back and forth between him and the person cursed. If it finds any reason to be attached to the victim, it attaches; but if not, the curser himself becomes worthy of it, and it comes back to him. Therefore beware of cursing a believer, lest your curse come back to you.”16. He (a.s.) also said: “Anyone who rebukes abeliever, Allah the Almighty will rebuke him in this world and the hereafter.”17. He (a.s.) also said: “He is cursed, he is cursed,he who attributes unbelief to a believer, and he who attributes unbelief to a believer is like his murderer.”

Helping Those Who Omit Prayer
Many traditional reports mention terrible consequences for those who help and assist the people who neglect prayer. As mentioned by the Messenger of Allah (S), “One who helps the neglecter of Prayer by giving him food or cloth acts as if he has murdered 70 prophets, the first of whom being Adam (a.s.) and the last Hazrat Muhammad Mustafa (S).” (Layalul Akhbār Vol. 4 page 51)
He (S) also said, “One who gives a draught of water to the neglecter of prayer, acts as if he has made war against me and battled with all the prophets.” (Layalul Akhbār page 395)
The Holy Prophet is also reported to have stated, “One who laughs with the neglecter of prayer, it is as if he has demolished the Ka’ba 70 times.” (Layalul Akhbār Page 395)
Obviously the general implication of these traditions is that if help and assistance given to a person, who neglects prayers, makes him complacent about his lapse and he continues to neglect his prayer; or if this assistance encourages him to be even more neglectful, then such help should not be given. And indeed whenever helping the sinner induces him to sin more, it is absolutely Harām. And from the point of view of Nahy Anil Munkar it is obligatory not to render such a person any help.
It may also be that helping or not helping does not have any effect on the person who neglects prayers. In this case it is not clear whether one should withhold help. There is a possibility that some assistance may in fact encourage a person to start praying or to stop sinning, in which case, needless to say, helping becomes obligatory.

The Most Important Religious Obligations
Hazrat Imam Ja’far as-Sadiq (a.s.) says, “In Qiyāma the first thing that one has to account for is one’s prayer. If it is accepted, his other good deeds will be accepted too. And if it is rejected his other good deeds will be rejected too.” (Bihār al-Anwār Vol. 18 page 52)

Muawiyah Ibn Wahab asked Imam Ja’far as-Sadiq (a.s.), “Which is that meritorious deed that brings one closer to his Lord?” Imam (a.s.) replied, “After the Marefat (recognition) of Allah, the Prophet and Imam no deed is superior to Prayer. Don’t you see that the righteous slave of Almighty, Hazrat Isa (a.s.) said, ‘As far as I am alive, the Almighty Allah has commanded me to pray and pay the poor-rate’? The Holy Prophet (S) was queried regarding the Best of deeds and he replied: Of all the good deeds the best is a prayer that is offered at the earliest hour.” (Furu al-Kāfi Vol. 3 page 264)

Hazrat Imam Muhammad Baqir (a.s.) says: “Prayer is a pillar of faith, it is like the center pole of the tent. As far as it is fulfilled, the ropes and pegs remain taut. When this centre pole does not remain straight or is broken, the other ropes and pegs also loosen from their places and the tent collapses.” (Bihār al-Anwār Vol. 82 page 218)

In the same way all the good deeds and acts of worship are connected to Prayers. Such that if this (Prayer) is neglected the other good deeds will also be wasted.
Imam Ja’far as-Sadiq (a.s.) comments on the Verse, “…and whoever denies faith, his work indeed is of no account…” (Surah al-Mā’ida 5:5)
Imam (a.s.) says, “This ayat denotes those who neglect prayer without any disability or problem.” (Bihār al-Anwār Vol. 82)
Hazrat Imam Muhammad Baqir (a.s.) says, “The foundation ofIslam is based on five things: Upon the prayer and Zakat and Hajj and Fasting and Wilāyat.” (Bihār al-Anwār Vol. 111)
Zurarah asked Imam (a.s.) which of these were the most superior. Imam (a.s.) replied, “It is Wilāyat, Because Wilāyat of Āle Muhammad (a.s.) is the key to other things. And after Wilāyat the most superior is Prayer. Because the Messenger of Allah (S) has said, ‘The Prayer is the Pillar of your religion.”

The Messenger of Allah (S) said, “When the day of Judgement is established a serpent of the species of scorpion will emerge from Hell. Its head will be on the seventh heaven and its tail will reach lower than the earth. Its mouth will be wide open from the west to the east. He will say, ‘Where are those who warred against Allah and his Messenger?’ Then Jibrīl the trustworthy will descend and ask him as to what people he wanted. The serpent will reply, “I want five groups of people. Those who neglected prayer, those who didn’t pay Zakat, those who took usury, the drunkards and those who talk of worldly things in the Masjids. (Meaning Harām conversation. For example the backbiting of Muslims and falsely accusing them, or to start an illegal practice, praising an oppressor or praising a person who doesn’t deserve this praise, or criticising a person who is free from blame.) (Layalul Akhbār)
The Messenger of Allah (S) also said, “There is a valley in Hell and the inmates of Hell scream 70000 times daily due to the severity of its punishment. There is a house of fire therein and this house has a well of fire. In this well is a casket which houses a thousand headed snake. Each of the head has a thousand mouths and each mouth has a thousand fangs and each of the fangs is one thousand metres long.”
Anas said, “O Messenger of Allah (S), for whom is this punishment reserved?” The Prophet (S) replied, “For those who imbibe wine and those who omit Prayers.”
Numerous traditions have reached us describing the severity of the punishment for neglecting Prayer but we think the above mentioned ones shall suffice for our purpose.

Fifteen terrible Consequences in the life and the Hereafter for those who neglect prayer

The Messenger of Allah (S) says that a person who neglects prayer and is lazy in its fulfilment is punished with fifteen calamities by Allah. Of these, six are related to this life, Three are with regard to the time of death, Three occur in the grave and Three calamities strike him in Qiyāma. That is when he will emerge from his grave (for the final accounting).
 The six calamites with regard to this life are:
1. The Almighty Allah reduces his life span.
2. And He terminates his sustenance.
3. He makes the signs of righteousness to disappear from his face.
4. None of his good deeds will be accepted and he will not be rewarded for them.
5. His invocations will not be accepted.
6. The supplications of righteous people will not benefit him.

The Three calamities to befall him at the time of death are:
1. He will die a death of degradation and disgrace.
2. He will die in hunger
3. He will die in a state of such a terrible thirst that even if he were todrink all the streams of the earth his thirst will not be quenched.

 Three punishments that he will suffer in the grave are:
1. An angel will be appointed over him to give him squeeze and chastise him.
2. His grave will be made narrow.
3. His grave will be dark and horrifying.

 Three calamities with regard to Qiyāma are asfollows:
1. The angel will be dragging him for accounting in such a way that other people will be a witness to it.
2. His accounting will be very strict.
3. The Almighty Allah will not look at him with mercy, will not purify him and there is a terrible punishment for him.

False accusation is worse than backbiting. It is to falsely attribute a deficiency or an offence to a believing person. It is certain that this transgression is the most wicked of attacks upon the prestige of a believer.

1. Allah the Most High said: “And whoever commits a fault or a sin, then accuses of it one innocent, he indeed takes upon himself the burden of a calumny and a manifest sin.”
2. He also said: “Surely (as for) those who speak evil of Allah and His Apostle, Allah has cursed them in this world and the hereafter, and He has prepared for them a chastisement bringing disgrace.”
3. The Holy Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w.a.) said:“Backbiting is speaking about your brother what he does not like to be mentioned.” And he added: “Know that if you mention what is actually in him, this is backbiting; and if you mention what is not actually in him, this is a false accusation.”
4. Imam Ja'far al-Sadiq (a.s.) said: “Backbiting is saying about your brother what Allah has hidden for him. But mentioning what is not hidden, for example, a coarse personality or hastiness, which is open characteristics, is not backbiting. However false accusation is mentioning negative qualities that are not in him.”
5. He (a.s.) also said: “Anyone who falsely accuses abeliever, male or female, of what is not in him on the Day he will be raised he will remain in 'tinat khabal' until he is released from it.” Someone asked: “What is tinat khabal?” He (a.s.) said: “It is a kind of pus that is secreted from the sexual organs of prostitutes.”
6. He (a.s.) also said: “Anyone who falsely accuses a believer Allah will imprison him in the pus from the sexual organs of prostitutes, until he is released from what he said.” He also added: “Backbiting is saying about your brother what Allah had hidden for him; but if you say what is not in him, then it is what Allah said in His Book: 'He indeed takes upon himself the burden of a calumny and a manifest sin.'[19]”

The Prophet never refused to declare his devotion toward her. No one else could compete with her as the object of the Prophet’s high esteem. The time was passing year after year; however, the early years which were tied to her name was an exclusive period. During the time when Prophet Muhammad (PBUH&HP) was suffering harm from the infidels, there was a person who relaxed his mind, diminished the weight of his grieves, and caused him to forget his anguishes. That person was none other than Lady Khadijah (PBUH), the faithful and respected lady who was the supporter and partner of Muhammad (PBUH&HP)

The smiles of Khadijah (PBUH) diminished the weight of the grieves of the Messenger of Allah (PBUH&HP); the love apparent in her face caused him to forget his pains and sufferings, and her faith-filled heart bestowed happiness on him.

Therefore, the presence of Lady Khadijah (PBUH) was an important factor in the life of the Prophet. She had a key role in the life of Islam, which was in the beginning of its growth at that time.

The greatest threat Prophet Muhammad (PBUH&HP) faced in the beginning of his mission of prophethood was the economic blockade of Muslims. However, the property of Lady Khadijah (PBUH) was the key to breaking this blockade. She used to buy food for all the Muslims for several times as much as the real price until they passed the period of blockade safely, and the plan of the infidels of Quraish was defeated.

Prophet Muhammad (PBUH&HP) lived with Lady Khadijah (PBUH) for 25 years in the best manner and ultimate mutual agreement. Even after her death, the Prophet (PBUH&HP) used to reminisce about his life with Lady Khadijah (PBUH).

Although Prophet Muhammad (PBUH&HP) had other wives after Lady Khadijah (PBUH), his heart always belonged to her. But why was that? It was because of the faith in Allah (SWT) and the testimony to His Messenger he had observed in Lady Khadijah (PBUH). On the other hand, Lady Khadijah (PBUH) had offered all her wealth in the way of Islam; yet, she had utmost respecthonor, and love towards Prophet Muhammad (PBUH&HP).

Ibn Hajar, a prominent Sunni scholar, has narrated that, "One of the distinctions of Khadijah (PBUH) was that she always respected the Prophet and endorsed his statements both before and after his appointment to the prophethood." (1)

This love has become so obvious that one of the Arab Christian literary men (2) has described it as follows: "Khadijah offered her love to her spouse; while she did not feel offering; rather, she felt like grasping love, kindness, and prosperity from him. She offered all her wealth to him; yet, she did not feel offering; rather, she felt like receiving guidance, which is more valuable than all treasures, from him…" (3)

In return for her emotions and feelings, Prophet Muhammad (PBUH&HP) acted the same and appreciated this love. Prophet Muhammad (PBUH&HP) spent the spring of his life with Lady Khadijah (PBUH), and when he became mournful upon her demise, he felt lonely and their separation was difficult for him. As a result, he named the year of demise of Lady Khadijah (PBUH) and his uncle, Abu Talib (PBUH) as the year of grief.

Prophet Muhammad's (PBUH&HP) admiration of Lady Khadijah (PBUH) is a lengthy topic which the historians and narrators of Hadith have mentioned in their books. Here, just as an example, we will quote a portion of it from Aisha, one of the wives of the Prophet after Lady Khadijah (PBUH). She describes the love of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH&HP) for Lady Khadijah (PBUH) as follows:

"I had never seen Khadijah; however, I envied her more than any other wife of the Prophet, because he used to remember her a lot (4)... The Prophet never came out of his house unless he had remembered Khadijah and admired her (5)... and he never became tired of admiring her and asking Allah (SWT) to forgive her (6).

Whenever the Messenger of Allah (PBUH&HP) slaughtered a sheep, he ordered that it be sent to the friends of Khadijah (PBUH). Once, I asked him about the reason for that. He replied:" I also love the friends of Khadijah..." (7).

Does not such a woman, who has grabbed the respect and love of the Prophet during and after her life, deserve becoming eternal in the history, and that researchers make efforts to study her life and characteristics so that they would be inspired by her true beliefs, firm faith, and magnificent example?

Lady Khadijah (PBUH) was not just an ordinary wife for Prophet Muhammad (PBUH&HP), as she occupied a special place in his heart due to her sacrifices. Thus, whenever appropriate, Prophet Muhammad (PBUH&HP)would reiterate her virtues after her demise.
Once Aisha, daughter of Abubakr, got agitated and said: "Why do you constantly praise her when she was just an old Arab woman, while Allah has granted you (a wife) better than her?"
Prophet Muhammad (PBUH&HP), the symbol of patience and tolerance, was deeply hurt and angered by her words. He replied:
"No! Allah has never granted me (a wife) better than her. When all the people denied my prophetic mission, it was Khadijah who believed me. In the times when the people disbelieved my words, it wasKhadijah who called me the truthful. In the times when people besieged me in financial difficulty, it wasKhadijah who helped me with her wealth. And it was her who brought a child like Fatimah (PBUH) " (2)
Three years before Hijrah (migration to Medina), while Prophet Muhammad (PBUH&HP) was gravely suffering from Quraish and the others, the light of Lady Khadijah's (PBUH) life went out. At the last moments of her life, LadyKhadijah (PBUH), who had stood as a loyal companion to Prophet Muhammad (PBUH&HP) during his mission, was bidding farewell to him. It was extremely difficult for Prophet Muhammad (PBUH&HP) to accept this incident, for he was losing a companion who was the best example of loyalty and sacrifice.
The final words of Lady Khadijah (PBUH) before her death were not of less value than all the difficulties she had faced in the way of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH&HP). Lady Khadijah (PBUH) told Prophet Muhammad (PBUH&HP):
"O Messenger of Allah!  I was negligent of you, and I did not accomplish what you deserved. Forgive me, and if there is something I can wish for now, it is your satisfaction."

Uttering her last words, she took her final breaths full of faith and humble…

A Saying of Imam Ali (AS)
 Your sickness is within you, though you do not realize,
And your cure is within, yet you do not see.
You claim that you are nothing but a tiny entity,
Yet wrapped up inside of you is the greatest universe.
You are the clear book, through whose letters
All that is secret is revealed and made known.
So you have no need for anything outside of you,
Your consciousness is within you, though you do not know.

Death Anniversay of Khadija-tul-Kubra (AS) & Abut Talim- 619 A.D.The Death of Khadija-tul-Kubra (SA) and Abu Talib - 619 A.D. Hazrat Khadija (SA), the wife, the companion and the friend of Muhammad Mustafa (SAW), the Messenger of Allah, and the benefactress of Islam and the Muslims, fell ill. Her illness was brief and fatal. All her life she had lived in the midst of abundance and luxury but the three years of exile had been a time of excessive austerity for her which inevitably took its toll. She was the first woman to declare that the Creator was One, and that Muhammad (SAW) was His Messenger. The glory and honor of being the first woman believer in the whole world, is hers to all eternity. When Islam came under mounting pressure from its enemies, Khadija (SA) sacrificed her comforts, her wealth and her home for it; and now it would appear that she sacrificed her life too, in the way of Islam. Without a doubt, if she had lived in her palatial house in Mecca, surrounded by her maid-servants, she might have lived for many more years. But she preferred to stand by her husband and his clan, and to share the hardships of life with them.

During the siege, she had to endure not only the pangs of hunger and thirst but also the extremes of heat in summer and cold in winter; yet she never complained to her husband about them. Whether times were good or bad, whether she had plenty or she had nothing, she was always cheerful. Austerity and privation never soured her. It was this temperament that was an unfailing source of comfort, courage and strength for her husband during the blackest and trying moments of his life.

During the years of the siege, Khadija (SA) spent all her fortune on buying essentials like food and water for the clan of her husband. When she returned to her house, her last cent was gone; and when she died, there was not enough money available in the house to even buy her shroud. A cloak of her husband was used as a shroud for her, and she was given a burial in it. Muhammad Mustafa (SAW) never took another wife as long as Khadija (SA) lived, and if she had not died, it is most probable that he would never have married any other woman. Khadija (SA) died on the 10th of Ramadan, 619 A.D. One month after her death, Muhammad Mustafa (SAW) had to sustain yet another shock in the death of Abu Talib (AS), his uncle and guardian, and the bulwark of Islam. The deaths of these two friends - Khadija (SA) and Abu Talib (AS)- were the greatest shocks that the Messenger of Allah (SAW) had to endure in the fifty years of his life. The two lamps of their glorious lives were extinguished. He was overwhelmed with sorrow. He called the year of their death as, "The Year of Sorrow" (Aa'm ul Hozn). Hazrat Khadija (SA) daughter of Khuylaid and Fatima was a pious and worthy lady, who at the time of the pagan regime of the Arabs before Islam was well-known as "Tahireh" (Pure and Chaste Woman). She was well-known as a great and distinguished wealthy lady in the Arabian Peninsula.

She engaged herself in business by the assistance of others, who traded in partnership on her behalf.1 Therefore, she was looking for a trustworthy and honest man on whom she could rely completely with her capital for business. When Hazrat Khadija (SA) became interested in Prophet Muhammad (SAW), he was 25-years-old and already quite well-known for his integrity and honesty besides his outstanding quality as an exceptionally trustworthy man. Hence she made a proposal to him through his uncle Abu Talib. In her proposal she offered him the management of her business

.2 Hazrat Khadija (SA) was well-aware of the glad tidings of the eminent coming of the Seal of the Prophets (SAW) through learned-men and spiritual leaders among them her uncle Varaqat ibn Nofal, who was considered as a prominent Arab scientist. Later her interest changed to enthusiasm upon learning that the awaited Prophet would arise to his Prophetic Mission from the City of Mecca and would marry a noble and wealthy lady of Quraysh. Her eagerness to learn more about him was heightened when Varaqat ibn Nofal gave her the good tidings that she was the chosen woman to have the honor of marriage to the Holy Prophet (SAW).

3 Hazrat Khadija (SA) encouraged by the positive response of Muhammad (SAW) to her offer in accepting the responsibility to lead her business caravan, appointed Moyaser, her slave as agent to observe Muhammad's (SAW) manner and conduct during the journey and to report his observations to her. When the caravan returned from Damascus to Mecca, Khadija (SA) went to an upper-room, to be in a position to watch over the goods and their supervision. Then a stunning event held her attention and filled her with a deep sense of faith, she noticed that a cloud shaded Muhammad (SAW) and followed his steps and moved in accordance with his movements. Her interest became so intense that she proposed to him and said: "In case you desire to engage in marriage, I am ready and willing to be your wife and slave." The news of this proposal reached Abu Talib and the rest of the uncles. Abu Talib in an eloquent fashion executed the marriage contract, while Khadija's (SA) dowry came from her own wealth.

4 As soon as the formal proposition ceremonies and marriage were performed, the lower-class and ignorant women of Mecca who knew Khadija's (SA) wealth and prominent suitors for marriage, criticized her harshly for accepting and marrying Muhammad (SAW), who was an orphan of Abdullah, indigent of Banu Hashim and who was not of her standing.

5 The Marriage: The holy matrimony between the 25-year-old Prophet (SAW) and the noble lady 40-year-old Khadija (SA) marked the starting point of great transformations in Islamic history.

6 This felicitation and glorious wedlock provided the Prophet (SAW) with a strong financial backing to withstand the threats and economic sanctions of polytheists and to continue his mission unhindered.

7 Above all, placed a sympathetic pious companion at his side in the difficult course of his Prophetic mission.

8 Hazrat Khadija (SA) so earnestly and with such great love and devotion rested full authority of all her wealth on the Prophet (SAW), to ease the difficulties and release the pressure on new Muslim converts, that Almighty God brought her great generosity to the attention of the Prophet (SAW)

9 with the descending of the following Verse which says: "... and found you in poverty and made you free from need."

10 Hazrat Khadija (SA) in the Eyes of the Prophet (SAW): The Holy Prophet (SAW) held great respect and affection towards Khadija (SA) and expressed it on many occasions even after her death. Without a doubt, the age difference between the Prophet (SAW) and his beloved wife indicates the degree of affection and devotion that goes far beyond the physical attractions. The issue becomes more apparent when we remember that his later wives (after the death of Khadija (SA)) were much younger and held immense physical beauty. Thus his deep respect towards his kind and loyal wife was based on her great spiritual qualities. The Prophet (SAW) reflected his heartfelt devotion to her in his monogamy during their 24 years of marriage.

11 After Khadija's (SA) death whenever any of the Prophet's (SAW) wives, out of jealousy made any remarks concerning her or made any kind of comparison, the Prophet (SAW) became very angry and replied distressfully: "What did you say?! God is my witness, and I swear by Him that when everybody was denying me, she had faith in me and became a believer. When everyone abandoned me, she helped me, may Allah bless her soul, she was a blessed lady and it was she who bore children for me."

12 His deep heartfelt affection towards her brought him close to her friends, he kept contact with them until his death, well after her death. Whenever a sheep was slaughtered in his house, he used to send a portion of meat to them.

13 Upon encountering them, he used to receive them with utmost respect and answered inquiries, he used to say: "This woman used to visit our house in Khadija's (SA) lifetime, keeping the record of friendship arises from faith."

14 The depth of affection and compassion of the Prophet (SAW) concerning Khadija (SA) was such that sometimes mere mention of her name, caused him to praise her self-sacrifice and generosity with tearful eyes.

15 On other occasions, he declared that: "The most virtuous ladies of Paradise are four: Khadija (SA) daughter of Khuylaid, Fatima (SA) daughter of Muhammad (SAW), Maryam (SA) daughter of Imran (AS), and Asiya daughter of Mozahim (Pharaoh's wife).

16 Sometimes he (SAW) introduced her as "the best of ladies of Paradise," and among the "distinguished ones", which is considered as evidence of "Azvajona" in different Qur'anic verse.

17 Three years before Hejira and only a few days after Abu Talib's death, Khadija (SA) passed away. The Prophet (SAW) was so overcame by the grief of her death that they called that year the `Year of Sorrow' and remorse of the Prophet (SAW).

18 Elaborating on the incident following the burial of Khadija (SA) in the cemetery of 'Hajjoon',

19 Imam Ja'far Sadiq (AS) said: "After Hazrat Khadija (SA) passed away, Hazrat Fatima (SA) feeling the loss of her beloved mother, overwhelmed by loneliness turned to her father seeking refuge in him and asked him: `O my dear father! where is my mother?" Angel Jibril descended and said to the Prophet (SAW): "O Muhammad! Allah commands you to greet Fatima (SA) for Him and tell her that her mother is placed in a room which has been built from a single gem, the foundation of this room is composed of gold and its pillar has been built by ruby. She is sitting between Asiya (Pharaoh's wife) and Maryam (SA), daughter of Imran (AS)." Hazrat Zahra-e-Marziya (SA) replied: "Surely Allah is the salutation and He is the cause of salutation and towards Him is directed salutation."20
