Bismilla-heer-Rahmaneer-Raheem

As-salamu alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatoh,

Holy Prophet Muhammad al Mustafā (S.A.W.W) said:

One who fast in the month of Rajab with faith and anticipation, Allāh, the blessed and the Almighty, will place between him and fire of hell, seventy trenches, width of each trench will be that of distance between the skies and the earth.”

[Reference: A’maali Al – Sudooq, Page. 10, narrated from Hammad ibne Abi Sulaiman, from Anas]

God's Prophet (a.s) said: "Whenever you meet one of your believing brothers, greet him and shake hands. God the Almighty respects the angels for greeting, and you should follow the angels in this respect."

Imam Sadiq (a.s) said: "Shaking hands has the same reward as that of those who immigrate for the sake of God."

Abi Obeydeh al-Haz'za narrated that once when he was travelling with Imam Baqir (a.s), the Imam (a.s) would shake hands with him whenever he got off his camel for some reason, and got back on. He asked Imam Baqir (a.s) the reason.

Imam Baqir (a.s) said: "Whenever two believers shake hands, they will leave each other without any sins."

Imam Sadiq (a.s) said: "Whenever two men shake hands, the reward of the one who initiates the handshake is more than the other one. Also know that due to the hand shaking, all the sins will be eliminated, and no sin will remain."

Imam Sadiq (a.s) said: "God's Prophet was never the first man to withdraw his hands when he shook hands with other men."

Imam Sadiq (a.s) said: "God's Prophet never allowed a man to shake hands with a woman, even if she was an old woman."

Ishaq ibn Am'mar narrated that once a man asked Imam Sadiq (a.s): "What is the reward of two believers who hug each other when they meet one another."

He replied: "When they hug each other, they will be encompassed with Mercy, and if they do this for God's sake, and they have no material intentions for so doing, they will be told: "God blesses you. Do it again." When they get close to one another and talk, the angels will tell each other:

"Let's go away. They are having a private conversation, and God will keep their secrets." Ishaq asked the Imam (a.s): "Will there be nothing recorded even though the Almighty God said: "Not a word does he utter but there is a sentinel by him, ready (to note it)." [The Holy Quran: Qaf 50:18]  Then the Imam sighed, tears flowed from his eyes and his beard got wet, and he said: "When two believers meet each other God orders the angels to respect them and maintain their distance. This is the honor of the two believers. Even though the angels do not hear them and do not record anything, God who is aware of their
hidden words and deeds knows what they say and records it."

Imam Sadiq (a.s) said: "The speed of development of mutual feelings between two good people when they meet is similar to that of combining rain water with river water even if they do not verbally express their friendship. However, the distance between wicked people when they meet each other-even if they verbally express
their friendship-is similar to the lack of feelings of the four-legged animals, even if they spend a lot of time eating grass together in a field."

Abi Basir asked the Imam (a.s) about a Muslim shaking hand with Jews or Christians. He said: "It is fine if you shake hands with some cloth in between, but if they touch your hands, wash them."

In another tradition we read: "If you do not find any water, rub your hands against a wall."

Imam Sadiq (a.s) said: "You believers have spiritual illumination by which you can be recognized. When one of you meets the other, he kisses just that light spot on the forehead."

Imam Sadiq (a.s) said: "It is not proper to kiss a girl once she reaches the age of six."

Imam Sadiq (a.s) said: "You are only allowed to kiss your small child and your wife on the lips."

A man kissed Imam Sadiq (a.s)'s hand. Imam Sadiq (a.s) said: "This is only allowed for the Prophet or those under special consideration of the Prophet."

Imam Kazim (a.s) said: "It is fine to kiss your relatives whom you cannot marry. You can kiss your brother on his cheeks and kiss your leaders on the forehead."

Imam Sadiq (a.s) said: "You believers have a spiritual illumination by which you can be recognized. Whenever you want to shake hands with one another, you can see the light in the other one's face when you greet each other."

Imam Sadiq (a.s) said: "When Abraham -the friend of the Merciful (a.s) was seeking a pasture for his sheep in Mount Bayt al-Mughadas, he heard a voice. When he looked more carefully he saw a man who was nearly twelve-hand spans (or feet) tall standing in prayer. Abraham said: "O' servant of God! Who are you praying to?" The man said: "To the Lord of the heavens." Abraham (a.s) asked: "Do you have any
relatives?" He said: "No." Abraham asked: "Then what do you eat?" He said: "I save the fruits of the trees in the summer, and eat them in the winter." Abraham asked: "Where do you live?" He said: "On the mountain." Abraham said: "Can I spend the night in your house?" The man said: "There is a hard to cross river on the way which we must cross." Abraham asked: "How do you cross it?" The man said: "I walk on top of the water." Abraham said: "Let's go. Maybe God will grant me what He has granted you." The worshiping man took Abraham's hand, and went to the river, and both walked on top of that river and crossed it. Then they both went to his house.

Abraham asked the man: "Which day is the greatest day?" He said: "That on which the people get closer to each other." Abraham said: "Do you want us both to raise our hands in prayer for God to protect us from the evils of that day?" He said: "What do you have to do with my praying? I swear by God that I have been praying for three years now but God does not fulfill my prayers." Abraham said: "Do you want me to tell you why your prayers are not answered?" He said: "Yes." Abraham said:
"God does not fulfill the prayers of one who prays and whom God loves so that he continues to pray and ask Him for what he needs. But when God does not like someone, He will immediately fulfill his needs so he does not pray again, or He makes him give up all hope in praying." Then Abraham asked him what he had
asked for. He said: "A young fellow passed by here with some sheep. I asked him who owned the sheep. He said "They belong to Abraham, the friend of the Merciful."
Then he said: "I prayed to God to show me His friend on the Earth if He has any."
Abraham said: "Your prayer has been responded to since I am Abraham, the friend of the Merciful." Then he hugged him. Hugging became a tradition from this time on.

Shaking hands became a tradition after the Prophet Muhammad's appointment."

Imam Sadiq (a.s) said: "Shaking hands with a believer has one thousand rewards."

Imam Sadiq (a.s) quoted on the authority of his noble father (a.s) on the authority of Imam Ali (a.s): "Do not greet women."

Ibn Abi Omir's sisters narrated that they went to see Imam Sadiq (a.s) and asked him: "Can a woman visit her believing brothers?" He said: "Yes." Then they asked: "Can they shake hands with him?" He said: "It is fine if their hands are covered with cloth. When the women were swearing their allegiance to God's Prophet, the Prophet had pulled his hands into his sleeves, and they touched his sleeves."

Imam Javad (a.s) said: "When the women wanted to swear allegiance to the Prophet of God (a.s), he would put his hand in a pan of water and they would immerse their hands in the same pan of water. This is how they expressed their faith in God, and acknowledged His Prophet, and accepted the religious laws of Islam.:

In another tradition we read: "The Prophet of God (a.s) called the women, placed his hand in a pan of water and removed it, and then asked them to place their hands in the pan of water to swear allegiance to him."

Imam Reza (a.s) said: "Sneezing is divine, but yawning is Satanic."

Imam Baqir (a.s) said: "Sneezing is good and useful for the body, and makes one remember God." Someone said: "There are some who say God's Prophet (a.s) never sneezed." Imam Baqir (a.s) said: "Whoever lies will not benefit from Muhammad's intercession."

A man sneezed near Imam Sadiq (a.s) and said: "Praise be to God, and
peace be upon Muhammad, the Prophet of God." Imam Sadiq (a.s) said: "You said what was rightfully due to God and the Prophet. What about us?"

Imam Sadiq (a.s) said: "Whenever the Prophet of God (a.s) sneezed, Imam Ali (a.s) said: "May God exalt your name, and indeed He will". Whenever Imam Ali (a.s) sneezed, the Prophet (a.s) said: "May God raise your position, and indeed He will."

Sa'd ibn Abi Khalaf narrated that whenever Imam Baqir (a.s) sneezed, they told him "May God bless you" and he said: "May God forgive and bless you." Whenever someone sneezed, Imam Baqir (a.s) said: "May God bless you."

Ameer al-Momineen (a.s) said: "God will cure the ear-aches and tooth-aches of whoever sneezes and says: "Praise be to the Lord of the two Worlds under all circumstances."

Imam Baqir (a.s) said: "Pray three times for whoever sneezes, then leave him."

Abdul-Rahman ibn Abi Najran narrated that once a Christian man sneezed near Imam Sadiq (a.s). Those present said: "May God guide you." Imam Sadiq (a.s) said: "May God bless you." They said: "He is a Christian. Why do you say this?" He replied: "God will not guide him unless He blesses him."

God's Prophet (a.s) said: "Whenever one sneezes while he is talking, this is a sign that he is telling the truth."

Moavieh ibn Am'mar asked Imam Sadiq (a.s) regarding the Almighty God's statement: "Lower thy voice." [The Holy Quran: Luqman 31:19]
Imam Sadiq (a.s) said: "This implies that you should not sneeze aloud or talk in a high tone of voice at war unless you are inviting the people to follow God."

Imam Baqir (a.s) said: "When an ill person sneezes it is a sign of improvement and physical health."

In 1919 when the flu killed 40 million people there was this Doctor that
visited the many farmers to see if he could help them combat the flu.
Many of the farmers and their family had contracted it and many died.

The doctor came upon this one farmer and to his surprise, everyone was very healthy. When the doctor asked what the farmer was doing that was different the wife replied that she had placed an unpeeled onion in a dish in the rooms of the home, (probably only two rooms back then). The doctor couldn't believe it and asked if he could have one of the onions and place it under the microscope. She gave him one and when he did this, he did find the flu virus in the onion. It obviously absorbed the bacteria, therefore, keeping
the family healthy.

Now, I heard this story from my hairdresser in AZ. She said that several
years ago many of her employees were coming down with the flu and so were
many of her customers. The next year she placed several bowls with onions
around in her shop. To her surprise, none of her staff got sick. It must
work.. *(And no, she is not in the onion business.)*

The moral of the story is, buy some onions and place them in bowls around
your home. If you work at a desk, place one or two in your office or under
your desk or even on top somewhere. Try it and see what happens. We did it
last year and we never got the flu.

If this helps you and your loved ones from getting sick, all the better. If
you do get the flu, it just might be a mild case..

Whatever, what have you to lose? Just a few bucks on onions!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now there is a P. S. to this for I sent it to a friend in Oregon who
regularly contributes material to me on health issues. She replied with this
most interesting experience about onions:

Weldon,thanks for the reminder.
I don't know about the farmers story...but, I do know that I contacted
pneumonia and needless to say I was very ill...I came across an article that
said to cut both ends off an onion put one end on a fork and then place the
forked end into an empty jar...placing the jar next to the sick patient at
night. It said the onion would be black in the morning from the germs...sure
enough it happened just like that...the onion was a mess and I began to feel
better.

Another thing I read in the article was that onions and garlic placed around
the room saved many from the black plague years ago. They have powerful
antibacterial, antiseptic properties

Laying foundation of the Islamic University

Imam (A.S.) decided to lay the foundation of Islamic University in Madina, so as to train students in different fields and branches of knowledge. The gushing knowledge spring of Imam (A.S.) was so evident that it attracted the researcher of knowledge from all the directions of the world. Hundreds of knowledge thirsty youth from all over the world came to Madina to join the teaching classes of Imam (A.S.). Imam (A.S.) trained famous and well-known men in various fields of knowledge the names of some of them are as follows:
1. Zurara and Mohammad Bin Muslim in jurisprudence.
2. Hisham and Momin ut Taq in beliefs and kalam (discourse).
3. Muffazil and Safwan in Gnosticism and Islamic learning.
4. Jabbir Bin Hayyan in mathematics and sciences.
Many other glorious men each of whom became the founder of various Islamic Learning's and arts so that for many years their books had been translated and taught in Europe. Evidently, such a chance for the propagation of Islamic learning's was not available in the age of Imam Ali (A.S.). Because, the enemy continuously engaged him in internal battles so that a constraint be put upon the propagation and dissemination of Islamic knowledge and learning's and this situation prevailed till the age of Imam Sajjad (A.S.).
From the age of Imam Mohammad Baqir (A.S.) the schools of Islamic learning were founded and those reached the climax of their expansion in the age of Imam Sadiq (A.S.). So far so, that in the university of Imam Sadiq (A.S.) four thousand students were trained in various branches of Islamic knowledge and learning's and they spread all over the world and taught and trained the people.

The Piety and Devotedness of Imam (A.S.)

The piety and abstemiousness is the standard of the man's value. Qur'an, considers all the people as equal, except for those who are decorated with the ornament of piety.
Malik bin Ans says, "Imam Sadiq (A.S.) was always busy praying to God and considered to be one of the great ascetic and devoted ones."
Abdul Ala says: On a hot day of summer I saw Imam Sadiq (A.S.) on one of the roads of Madina while he was going for a job. I said, "May I lay my life for you, why have you put yourself into inconvenience in such a hot weather, with all the faith upon God and association with the Prophet (P.B.U.H.)?"
He said, "I have come out for the job and to earn my livelihood, so that I must not remain needy towards others."
Another one says, "I saw Imam Sadiq (A.S.) wearing rough dress and he was working in a garden like an ordinary labor and perspiring all over." I said to him "Oh, the son of Prophet (P.B.U.H.) allow me to work for you."
He said, "I love working for my livelihood and to taste the hardship of the burning heat of the sun like others."
When Imam went out of the house he used to put on new, clean, valuable and costly dress and climb up a horse.
A group of ignorant people thought this act negated the piety and asceticism.
Therefore, they would come and object and when they heard the response they would be ashamed.

The Imam's (A.S.) talk with a deceitful pious looking man
One day a pious looking forgoer named Sufian stopped Imam Sadiq (A.S.) and said, "You are from the family of Prophet (P.B.U.H.) how is it that you put on such a precious dress?"
Imam said, "Oh Sufian, look there is a rough shirt underneath this dress and I have put on this shirt over it so that those whose minds are in their eyes do not think that I am a poor needy and distressed one but you have put on a soft dress underneath this rough dress, so that you may deceive others that you are a devoted ascetic. Oh Sufian! Do not be so narrow minded."
The next day, Sufian saw that Imam was working in an agricultural field besides the labors and was sweating. He went ahead and said, "I am surprised about you. Why are you so greedy about the world and perspiring in this old age and working?"
Imam (A.S.) said, "How happy I would be if I meet the God (die) in this condition that I am working hard and getting the expenditure of life by putting myself in inconvenience and I do not get myself loaded upon others."
What a miserable people are those who feed themselves upon the income of others and reach the seat of power through them and instead of service and love think all are indebted to them and are always demanding from others. Their outer form is obviously decorated and deceiving, like that of Sufian, but inwardly they are stinking and wicked.
The Characteristic Distinctions of Imam Sadiq (a.s.)

We all know that the conduct of men is the reflection of their inner character and everyone can be recognized by his conduct.
There are only a very few people who do not spill out their conduct and whatever they have in their interior and do not exhibit it. Whatever they have in their hearts kindles the exterior of the electric lamp like an electric switch.

Whole of the life of Imam Sadiq (A.S.), like the other Imams (A.S.), was the enlightened lesson of the real and right Islam. He himself was considered to be the example and specimen of the Islamic ethic, moral and conduct. You cannot find a father and a son among all the people, of all the tribes who may resemble each other from all the angles of ideas, thoughts, character and conduct. But the family of the Prophet of Islam (P.B.U.H.) and his successors all were on the same line and performed their heavenly duty with one aim, one ideology, and did not have any kind of difference in speech, character and ethical conduct.

About the ethical value and virtue of Imam Sadiq (A.S.) it is sufficient that out of four thousands of his students even a single one did not object or criticize upon the moral character and conduct of Imam (A.S.), and did not find a weak point in it.

He was a practical example and specimen for the Muslims with respect to eating, relaxing and resting, walking, speaking, and conducts with others.
He had the same social conduct with his friends as he had with his children.
The sun of the existence of Imam Sadiq (A.S.) arose from the lap of his mother Ome-Farwah on the 17th of Rabiul Awal, 83rd year Hijrah, in the city of Madina. His father Imam Mohammad Baqir (A.S.) was much happy and pleased by the birth of his son.
His mother was the grand daughter of Mohammad Ibn-e-Abu Bakr, who was one of the friends of Ali (A.S.).

Imam Ali (A.S.) repeatedly said about him that, "Mohammad is my spiritual and moral son." Asma Bint-e-Amais was the mother of Mohammad Bin Abu Bakr, and she was considered to be a pious woman. She was continuously in the service of Hazrat Zahra (S.A.) and took pride in it.
Imam Sadiq (A.S.) said about her mother, "My mother was one of the pious, faithful and devoted women." Imam Sadiq (A.S.) was 15 years of age when his grandfather Imam Sajjad (A.S.) was martyred and 34 years old when his father Imam Baqir (A.S.) was martyred. Consequent upon the martyrdom of Imam Hussain (A.S.) the government of Bani Omaiyd was shaken which turned the people into their enemy and pessimist about them. This opened the avenue for the formation of Bani Abbasade government. The gap in between these two powers opened the way for the propagation of Shia ideology and school of thought. Imam Jaffer-e-Sadiq (A.S.) could, through a learning movement, propagate the learning's of Islam in such a way to extend and make it reach all the people in the World.

Why Shiaism is named Jafri

For the sake of the propagation of the Shiite constitution in the shadow of the knowledge, political sacrifices, and devotion, the Shiite school was attributed to him and this religion was named as the Jafri religion. We belong to the Jafri religion and take pride in this name. The message of the true Islam of Mohammad (P.B.U.H.) can be sought in the blood of Hussain (A.S.) and its explanation and description in the teachings of Imam Sadiq (A.S.).
Jafri Islam is the same one, on the way of which Imam Ali (A.S.) fought holy war (Jehad) and Imam Hassan (A.S.) made truce and Imam Hussain (A.S.) gave his blood (life). Imam Sajjad (A.S.) put on the dress of prisoner ship and Zainab (S.A.) became the messenger of the blood of martyrs. The Prophet's daughter Zahra (S.A.) raised her voice in the mosque of her father over the cruelties and tyranny, which were committed on her.
If Islam be the one in which the rulers seated themselves upon snatched usurped chairs and enrage and unpleased Zahra (S.A.) and made Imam Ali (A.S.) sit at home, we admit that we will not submit to such Islam. From the logical point of view of the informed, faithful and scholars devoted to the family of the Prophet (P.B.U.H.), the Islam wherein the family of the Prophet (P.B.U.H.) be suspended will be the same Islam whose custodians were the rulers like Muawiyah, Yazeed and Muttawakils.
The red history of Shiaism of Imam Ali (A.S.) proved that whosoever accepted the Islam minus the family of Imam Ali (A.S.) and struggled on its way did reach no where and was finally rendered despicable and helpless and at last turned into the tool of the hands of imperialists of the history.

Mansoor conspires against Imam (A.S.)

Since the cultural school of thought of Imam Sadiq (A.S.) considered human beings effective in their fate and told them it is you who form a society! It is you who make yourselves prosperous or unfortunate and miserable. Only you provide the grounds for your progress or your fall.
Meaning thereby, it is you who can dismiss the rulers from the seat of power and do not accept cruelty and hand over the ruler ship to the men who are capable and sympathizers.

The propagation and spread of this belief and idea, which was the same Quranic belief of the Muslims, displeased and annoyed Mansoor.
He tried that he might arrest and stop the flow of this belief by propagation of negative values about morality and corruption of ideas and practices. Thus refrain the people from joining the school of thought of Imam Jaffar-e-Sadiq (A.S.), which is the school of information, consciousness and movement.

Mansoor employed scholars for the implementation of his aims so that they may make the people believe in the religion of suppression and constraint. That is to say, they wanted to mould the belief of people and make them believe that whatever poverty, woe, and oppression and excesses are going on, all these are from God and human being do not have any interference to reshape it. So that as a result of it the opposition, revolt and uprising are stopped. People may tolerate the excesses and cruelties of the tyrant rulers and bear the punishments and whips of their criminal masters. They, instead of objecting upon them, may express Commendation and thankfulness.

Evidently and clearly Imam Sadiq (A.S.) could not watch the propagation of such a wrong and dangerous belief, which was given to the people and taught in the name of Islamic culture and beliefs.

Imam (A.S.) laid the foundation of the Islamic University to combat against this dangerous imperialistic belief. In a short span of time, he trained four thousand students in the field of Islamic culture and beliefs and spread them among the people to get the effects of the propaganda of the agent scholars, neutralized and defused.

Mansoor's Excesses over Imam Sadiq (A.S.)

Surprisingly, the Abbasades gathered the people around them on the pretext of taking the revenge of the blood of martyrs of Karbala and fight against the brutalities of Bani Omaiydes and remove and replace the Bani Omaiydes through the help of Iranians who were inclined to and loved the family of Imam Ali (A.S.) and also with the help of Abu Muslim Khorasani. But instead of handing over the caliphate to the Imam of the age i.e., Imam Jaffar-e-Sadiq (A.S.) they themselves overtook the government.
From the year 132 Hijra the period of Omaiydes was discontinued. Two caliphs named 'Saffah' and 'Mansoor' overtook power. The first one ruled for 10 years while the second for a period of 22 years. All the time they teased and annoyed the Imams and religious leaders continuously.

Imam Sadiq (A.S.) was under a severe stress and pressure during the age of Mansoor. Even to the extent that sometimes the people were stopped from seeing him. So far so, that when a person named 'Haroon' wanted to see Imam (A.S.) and enquire the solution to a problem. He started thinking what to do to meet the Imam (A.S.). Suddenly, he happened to see a street hawker who was selling cucumbers. He came near him, purchased all the cucumbers, borrowed his old dress, put it on, and pretending to be a cucumber seller went to Hazrat Imam's house and questioned him about his problem, received the answer and returned.
Mansoor arrested most of the friends of Imam (A.S.) and imprisoned them and quite a few times decided to martyr the Imam (A.S.) but each time by the miracle of Imam (A.S.) he would be defeated.

Stability of Imam (A.S.)

Mansoor who had been disappointed after using various means and ways, started deceiving public and tried to manifest and show himself as the real heir of Holy Prophet (P.B.U.H.) and one of the persons fit for the post of Islamic caliphate, on the pretext that he is from the lineage of Abbass (Prophet's uncle) and the family of Prophet (P.B.U.H.). But he knew fully well that he did not have the caliber and capability of this and that post only suited the sons of the Prophet (P.B.U.H.) "the Imams (A.S.)."
Imam Sadiq (A.S.) severely and strongly combated against this public deceiving conduct and degraded and disgraced this family through his letters.
1. One day Mansoor wrote to Imam (A.S.) "why do you not come to see me like the others?" Imam (A.S.) wrote in his response. "We do not possess any thing from the world so that we may be afraid of you for it (loss of it). You too do not possess anything for the justice day and the spiritualism so why must I come to see you?
2. The next day Mansoor wrote to Imam (A.S.) "Come here to admonish me." Imam (A.S.) wrote replying him, "whosoever be from the people of the world (adorer of world) will not admonish you and whosoever will be the man of the justice day will not come near you."
3. One of the days Imam (A.S.) was present in the assembly of 'Mansoor'. By chance, a fly started teasing 'Mansoor' and howsoever he tried to make it buzz off it would not and again sat upon his far and head. Mansoor much annoyed as he was, "said to Imam (A.S.), "Why has God created the fly?"
Imam (A.S.) at once replied, "For the reason of disgracing and degrading the powerful tyrants through them."
'Mansoor' became annoyed; he sat comfortably on his place and allowed the Imam (A.S.) to leave.

Conflict of Imam (A.S.) with ruler of Madina

After Mansoor had martyred a group of the family of Bani Hashim. He sent a man named "Sheba" as the ruler of Madina to keep the activities of Imam under observation. He came to the mosque on Friday and after the prayers were over. Seated himself on the tribune and started taking liberty and using foul language about Imam Ali (A.S.) and the family of the Prophet (P.B.U.H.). People who knew the Prophet's family form a close quarters and loved them got extremely annoyed but they could not dare utter a word.
At this occasion Imam Sadiq (A.S.) got up and said, "Oh man! We deserve all those merits and virtues you have mentioned and you and Mansoor deserve those demerits and vices you have spoken about. Then he turned his face towards the people and said, "Do you know who will be the most of the looser on the day of justice, tomorrow. That person who sells his doomsday for the world (material gains) of the others and such is this corrupt ruler."

Imam's (A.S.) Martyrdom

Although Mansoor did his best to bring the Imam (A.S.) close to himself or make him silent by threatening him but he failed. So he decided to martyr Imam (A.S.).
Consequently, the Imam (A.S.) was poisoned and martyred . His pure body was buried in the graveyard of Baqi in Madina.

Brief Sayings of Imam Sadiq (A.S.)

1. A Muslim who puts in endeavors to materialize the desire of his brother is like someone who performs holy war (Jehad) on the way to God.
2. Our intercession will not be extended to the one who is careless in performing prayers.

Why Shiaism is Named Jafri School of Law?

The Characteristic distinctions of Imam

Imam (A.S.) and the problem of Justified Profit

Imam Sadiq (A.S.) gave one thousand dinnars to one of his friends "Musadif" so that he may do some business for him and achieve some profit and that be a help and assistance for his life.
'Musadif' bought some material by that money and moved towards Egypt along with some traders. They happened to come across a caravan, which was returning from there, in the vicinity of the city.
He enquired about the materials, which he possessed for trade, so that he may get informed about the condition of it. The business item was one of those required by the people. There was a scarcity of it in the city. They explained to him that due to its scarcity many buyers and purchaser would be available. Therefore, he could sell his item for a high price.
The businessman became very happy and he settled it with his companions that the item be sold at double the price and they must not sell it lesser than that. After they arrived into the city they did the sine. As a result that man made a profit of one thousand dinnars.
He returned to Madina and very happily and merrily moved towards the house of the Imam (A.S.). When he reached before the Imam he put two sacks of two thousand Dinnars before him and said, "One sack is your money and the other one is the profit of the deal. Imam said, "How did you get such a plenty of profit?" The businessman described all the matter before him. Suddenly, the face of Imam reflected anger and he said, "I take refuge of God you people agree upon the loss of a group of Muslims so that you may sell your items for double the amount of cost?"
Imam picked up the money, which he had given and returned the other sack to that man saying, "I do not need the profit which is obtained by injustice. Oh man! Be aware that it is very difficult to achieve money from Halal, (right and just means).

Imam (A.S.) forbearance and fortitude

The incidents and difficulties, which come into human life can, measure and find out the extent of his energy and faith. The difficulties, which cropped up in the life of Imam Sadiq (A.S.) and the patience and forbearance, which, he showed towards them, illuminated his personality and worth. Howsoever they (enemies) abused and teased him he showed patience and forbearance and admonished them. He never cursed or used foul language about them.

The Friendship, which Terminated

A man would always accompany Imam Sadiq (A.S.) and he loved him very much and always cherished his memory. One day, they went together to the bazaar of cobblers. That man had a black slave who was moving behind him. The slave was busy watching the shops and got away from his master. The friend of Imam was continuously looking at his back and he did not find the slave. He got very annoyed and enraged. Suddenly he saw the slave and said, "your mother so and do, where were you?"
As soon as he uttered this sentence Imam Sadiq (A.S.) raised his hand with surprise and struck it hard upon his forehead and said, "you abuse his mother?" I thought you were a pious man and I was a friend of yours for a long time and I talked about you in the assembly of friends and companions. It is good that I came to know that you are not a good friend. Hurry, get away from me.
Learning the style of Preaching from Imam (A.S.)

Shakrani was a young man who performed bad deeds stealthily. Since his grandfather was a slave freed by the Prophet (P.B.U.H.), therefore, people thought him to be associated to the Prophet (P.B.U.H.). One day he learnt that "Mansur" was distributing the wealth of Bait-ul-mal. He went there to seek some help. Since, he did not know anyone there he could not get a thing. During this span of time he happened to sight Imam Sadiq (A.S.). He went rushing towards him and requested him to become a medium for him and get him a share from the caliph. Imam (A.S.) accepted his request, and went to get his share and brought it. When Imam (A.S.) gave him the money he said to him "A good deed is good from everyone but it is better to occur from you, who is associated to us. And a bad act is bad from every one, but it is worse from you who is associated with us."
Imam (A.S.) said it and went. Shakrani getting hold of the money started pondering deep and knew that Imam (A.S.) had come to know about his bad acts and by these words he meant to stop him from it. The wicked man got very ashamed by this conduct of Imam (A.S.) and decided to abandon his misdeeds and so he did.

Imam attends the Oppressed and Distressed

1. One of the friends of Imam named Moally Bin Khunais says, "On a rainy and dark night I saw that Imam Sadiq (A.S.) was carrying a heavy sack on his back in the streets of Madina. I followed him to find out as to where he was heading. He threw a quantity of bread on earth and I collected it and went towards Imam (A.S.) and saluted him and gave that to him. Imam (A.S.) took that kept it in the sack, and continued walking on. Not very long after that, he reached a point where a group of oppressed men were sleeping. He put two breads underneath the head of each one and turned back I asked the Imam (A.S.) "were they your shias?" He said, "No, if they were our shias I would have attended them better than that."
2. Hisham Bin Salem another friend of Imam says, "The Imam had a peculiar manner of action that he picked up food in the dark nights and carried it to the doors of the houses of the oppressed ones, delivered it to them and did not let himself be recognized.
Long times passed and Imam passed away. Since his help was discontinued, the poor and afflicted ones got to know that the unknown man who came in the night and helped them was Imam Sadiq (A.S.) for this reason they became very sad and miserable.
Imam Struggles against hoarding
One of the years, a shortage of wheat took place in Madina. A bewilderment and anxiety overtook the people. Anyone who had not stored wheat for a years use would try hard to provide and stock it.
At the same time, the poor have-nots were forced to buy there every day-needed wheat from the market.
One day Imam Sadiq (A.S.) asked his servant "Motab," "Do we have wheat in the house this year? Motab replied, "Yes we have got wheat to meet the requirement of a few months."
Imam said, "Take that to the market and surrender it to the people and sell it."
Motab said, "Oh my Lord! Wheat is scarce in Madina, if I sell it purchasing wheat after that will be difficult and we will face hardship and will be forced to buy it on a higher cost."
Imam said, "Do what I have said, hereafter do purchase the bread of the house like the have-nots of Madina, do each day. Because the bread of my house should not have any difference with that of the masses although you may buy it on a higher rate."
The greedy afflicted and the thankful poor
One of the friends of Imam says, we were busy taking grapes in Mina along with the Imam (A.S.). An afflicted one come and asked for help. Imam gave him a bunch of grapes. The man did not take that and demanded money. Imam said, "God may provide you that." The afflicted man walked a few steps and turned back and requested the Imam (A.S.) to give him the grapes. He said, "may God provide you that" and the man went back.
At the same time another poor man came and asked the Imam for help. He gave him a few grape stones. The man took them and thanked God. Imam gave him a handful of grapes. The man took that and again thanked God, for his boon. For the third time, Imam (A.S.) gave him twenty dirhams and the fourth time, gave him his shirt. The man took all and went back praying for Imam (A.S.).
I said to myself had this man continued on, Imam (A.S.) would have given him all that he had.

He came near him, purchased all the cucumbers, borrowed his old dress, put it on, and pretending to be a cucumber seller went to Hazrat Imam's house and questioned him about his problem, received the answer and returned.Mansoor arrested most of the friends of Imam (A.S.) and imprisoned them and quite a few times decided to martyr the Imam (A.S.) but each time by the miracle of Imam (A.S.) he would be defeated.

Consequently, the Imam (A.S.) was poisoned and martyred on 25th of Shawwal, 148 Hijrah. His pure body was buried in the graveyard of Baqi in Madina.
Brief Sayings of Imam (A.S.)
1. A Muslim who puts in endeavors to materialize the desire of his brother is like someone who performs holy war (Jehad) on the way to God.
2. Our intercession will not be extended to the one who is careless in performing prayers.
3. The fruit (result) of love and attachment with the world is inconvenience, trouble and sorrow and the result of piety and purity in the world is the comfort of body and soul.
4. How indecent is it that the powerful ones take revenge from the weak.
5. Be benevolent to your father and mother so that your children may as well be benevolent to you.
6. Pray to God that your sustenance does not lie in the hand of people.
7. One who invites the people towards himself (leadership) and a person wiser than him is present among the people, has gone astray.
8. Avoid incorrect jokes and humors, as it is the cause of enmity and grudge.
9. Three things are the signs of a hypocrite:

ii) Does not fulfill promises and commitments.
iii) Embezzles the deposits of others.
10. Take distance from (avoid) being jealous of others because this will be the cause of your becoming away from God.

Rewards Of Reciting Salawat

Allah and His angels bless the Prophet. O' believers, do bless him and pray him peace! (Holy Quran)

*Imam Ali Raza (a.s) said: Anyone who is unable to get rid of his sins should say plenty of salawat for Mohammed (sawaw) and Aley Mohammed because it erases and destroys sins.

*RasulAllah (s.a.w.a.w) proclaimed: If anyone says salawat for me 3 times every day and thrice each evening, due to the love and respect he has for me, the Almighty Allah will forgive all the sins he has committed during that day or night.

*He also said: If a person writes salawat for me in a book, angels would say astaghfar for him as long as my name remains in that book.

The Holy Prophet (sawaw) relates that on the night of "Meraj" (ascension): I saw an angel who had a thousand hands and in every hand, a thousand fingers. He was busy calculating. I asked Gabriel: Who is this angel and what is he calculating? Gabriel answered: This angel has been appointed to count drops of rain descending on earth.

I addressed that angel and asked him whether he knew the amount of drops that had descended on earth since Allah created the world? He answered: O' Prophet of Allah, I swear by Allah who sent you to reveal the truth to his creation, I not only know the amount of drops that have fallen on earth since its creation, I also know the exact amount of drops that have ascended both in the sea and on land.

The Holy Prophet (sawaw) says: I was surprised at his sharp memory and precise calculations. The angel said: Despite my memory and calculation, there is one thing that I simply cannot calculate! The Holy Prophet (sawaw) questioned: What is that? The angel replied: I cannot calculate the reward for the people who hear your name and recite salawat each time they hear it!

Eighth Infallible Sayings:
  • The person moving to help his Momin brothers is like the person who is walking between Safa and Marwa.
  • He who treats people kindly will be accepted as arbiter.
  • To trust everybody in times of injustice and cheating is disability.
  • If problems are added to each other, they will give birth of relief.
  • To recognize the actuality of your friend, you should enrage him. If he keeps up his friendship, he is true friend lest, he is false.
  • Do not appreciate one's affection before you enrage him three times.
  • Do not trust your friend perfectly, because the knockdown of the trustful is incurable.
  • Islam is a definite rank. Faith is one rank higher than Islam. Conviction is one rank higher than faith. People have been given a rank lower than conviction.
  • To remove a mountain is easier than removing faith.
  • The desire for the worldly pleasures causes grief and sadness. Abstinence from the worldly pleasures brings about the rest of both heart and body.
  • Life is to rent a house and buy bread.
  • He who gains oppression is not gaining welfare. He who mistreats people should not complain when people mistreat him.
  • In homelands, exchanging visits is the means of association. In travel, correspondence is the means of association.
  • A believer is not perfectly virtuous unless he enjoys three characters knowledge ability of the religious affairs, moderation in living, and steadfastness against misfortunes.
  • An actual believer is that whose sexual appetite does not overcome him and whose stomach does not shame him.
  • A twenty-year friendship is kinship.
  • Favors should be done only to the highborn or the religious. Those who show gratitude are very few.
  • Enjoining good and forbidding evil should be practiced with a faithful believer that he would learn a lesson, or an ignorant that he would earn. Enjoining good and forbidding evil become surely worthless when they are applied to the powerful tyrants.
  • As some people showed ingratitude for Allah's graces, He changed the graces into crises. As other people showed steadfastness against the misfortunes that inflicted them, Allah changed the misfortunes into graces.
  • Imam As-Sadiq(A.S.) was asked about personality, he answered: Personality stands for that Allah should not see you in situations against which He warned, and miss you in situations of which He ordered.
  • Thank him who did you favor, and confer upon him who thanked you. Graces that are shown gratitude will not be removed while those that are shown ingratitude will not persist. Thanks increase the graces and saves against poverty.
  • To miss a need is better than asking it from other than its people. Bad mannerism in a misfortune is more catastrophic than the misfortune itself.
  • As a man asked him a short item of instruction that collects the welfare of this world and the world to come, the Holy Imam (A.S.) said: Never tell untruths.
  • Imam As-Sadiq (A.S.) was asked about eloquence. He answered: Eloquence is to express the idea in as few as possible words. The eloquent is that who attains his demand in the least effort.
  • Debt is grief at night and humility in day.
  • If your worldly demands are attainable, you should check your religion.
  • Treat your fathers piously so that your sons will treat you piously. Keep yourselves away from the strange women so that your harem will be chaste.
  • Salutation is voluntary while responding is obligatory.
  • Do not answer those who speak before they greet you.
  • Shaking hands is the perfect greeting of the resident and embracement is the perfect greeting of the traveler.
  • Shake hands, because this will confiscate malice.
  • Fear Allah even if to some extent. Construct a screen between Him and you even if transparent.
  • As for those who control themselves in rage, desire, fear, and lust, Allah will prevent Hell from burning their bodies.
  • Everything has limits. The limit of conviction is not to fear anything besides Allah.
  • The (Faithful) believer should enjoy eight characters; he should be venerable in shaking situations, steadfast against misfortunes, thankful in luxury, satisfied with what Allah has decided to him, avoid oppressing the enemies, avoid over tasking the associates, should fatigue his body, and make people feel glad with him.
  • Knowledge is the comrade of the faithful believer, clemency is his supporter, patience is the commander of his army, lenience is his brother, and charity is his father.
  • As for those who practice without guidance, they are like him who walks without choosing a definite path. The more he walks, the remoter he becomes.
  • He who recognizes Allah accurately will fear Him. He who fears Allah accurately will disregard the worldly pleasures.
  • The actual fearful is that who cannot speak due to the intensity of fear.
  • We love those who are intelligent. Knowledgeable, perceptive, expert, clement, courteous, patient, veracious, and loyal. Allah gave the noble characters exclusively to the prophets(a.s). He who enjoys such characters should thank Allah for them. He who does not enjoy them should supplicate to Allah for them. As he was asked about these noble characters, Imam As-Sadiq(A.S.) said: The noble characters are piety, satisfaction, patience, gratefulness, clemency, pudency, generosity, bravery, enthusiasm, veracity, charity, fulfillment of the trusts, conviction, good mannerism, and chivalry.
  • The firmest handle of faith is to love, hate, give, and deprive-all for Allah's sake.
  • The Divine Throne will be shaken when one makes Allah the witness of a false matter.
  • He whose conducts are bad is tormenting himself.
  • Favor is well-known. Except its reward, nothing is better than doing favor.
  • The most effective soldiers of Eblis are women and rage.
  • The world is the believer's jail, patience is his fortress, and Paradise is his abode. The world is the disbeliever's paradise, grave is his jail, and Hell is his abode.
  • Whenever you see a servant (of Allah) pursuing people's flaws and neglecting his own flaws, you should then realize that he has been trapped (by the Shaitan).
  • The server of food who thanks (Allah for so) will be rewarded as same as those who fast just for gaining the rewards of Allah, and the individual who is cured and thanks (Allah for curing him) will be rewarded as same as the diseased one who is steadfast against that disease (for the sake of Allah).
  • You should not trust the betrayer after you had tested him and you should not accuse him whom you trusted.
  • Fear of Allah is sufficient knowledge and deceit is sufficient ignorance.
  • The best adoration is to know Allah and behave humbly with Him.
  • Everything has its tax and the tax of knowledge is to teach its people.
  • Beware of associating with the lowly, because the association with them will never lead to welfare.
  • To wear rings on the fingers is a prophetic tradition.
  • The most favorable friend to me is that who shows me my flaws.
  • Friendship is nil unless its limits are kept. He who does not keep these limits should not be regarded as friend. The first limit is that the inner self and the appearance should be identical. The second limit is that the friend should regard your goodness as his goodness and your evil as his evil. The third limit of friendship is that a position or fortunes should not change the friend's relation with his friends. The fourth limit is that the friend should not deprive his friend of anything that he is capable of doing. The fifth limit which is the most comprehensive is that the friend should never leave his friend alone in calamities.
  • The believers laughter should be only a smile.
  • There is no difference between depositing a trust with a betrayer or a negligent.
  • Imam As-Sadiq(A.S.) said to Al-Mufaddal: I instruct you to stick on six characters and relate them to my adherents-Shia. You should fulfill the trust of him who entrusts you with anything. You should like for your brother whatever you like for yourself. You should know that every matter has an end; therefore, you should beware of the outcomes of matters. Similarly, every matter has a sudden event; hence, beware of the sudden events. Beware of climbing an easy mountain if its slope is uneven. Never promise your brother of a matter that you cannot fulfill.
  • People are equal like the teeth of a comb. With the support of his brothers, a man can be regarded as great. No goodness is expected in the friendship of those who do not like for their friends whatever they like for themselves.
  • You should regard him who became angry with you three times without addressing any bad saying to you as a true friend.
  • You will not be faithful believer before you become fearful and hopeful. You will not be fearful and hopeful before you work for what you fear and hope.
  • Faith is not identified through outer appearances and hopes. Faith is that which is pure in the hearts and assured by deeds.
  • If a man is more than thirty year old, he is middle-aged. If he is more than forty year old, he is old man.
  • Whenever Allah opens a door to the worldly pleasures, He will open to acquisitiveness.
  • The believer is strange in this world. He should not feel worry of its humility and should not compete with its people for gaining its honor.
  • Hasty walking removes the believer's brightness and extinguishes their illumination.
  • Allah surely hates the oppressive wealthy man.
  • Rage eliminates the intelligence of the wise. He who cannot control his rage will not be able to control his mind.
  • The niggardly is that who gains wealth illegally and spends it unsuitably.
  • Good mannerism is a part of the religion. It increases the earnings.
  • Morals are of two forms: one is intent while the other is nature. Imam As-Sadiq(A.S.) was asked, "Which of them is better than the other?" He answered: The intentional morals are better than the natural, because the owner of natural morals cannot change them, while the owner of the intentional morals is preserving the acts of obedience (to Allah).
  • The actual generous charitable individual is that who spends his wealth for fulfilling the rights of Allah.
  • You should know that I will fulfill the trust of even the killer of Ali(A.S.) if he deposits something with me or seeks my advice of consultation.
  • Sufian said: I asked Abu-Abdullah (A.S.) whether it is acceptable to praise oneself or not. He answered: It is acceptable to praise oneself in cases of necessity. Joseph the prophet (A.S.) said: Put me in charge of the treasuries of the land. I know how to manage them. (Holy Qur'an 12:55). The virtuous servant (of Allah) also said: I am a trustworthy advisor for you. (Holy Qur'an 7:68).
  • Mohammed bin Qays said: I asked Abu-Abdullah(A.S.) whether it is acceptable to sell weapon to the two parties both of whom are wrong. Holy Imam(A.S.) said: Sell to them only defensive weapons: armors, shields, helmets, and the like.
  • Allah gives the worldly pleasures to those whom He loves as well as those whom He dislikes, while He gives the faith only to whom He selects among the creatures.
  • Abu-Baseer related: I asked Abu-Abdullah (A.S.) about faith and Islam. He answered: Faith is the avoidance of acts of disobedience to Allah. Islam is to practice our rites and slaughter animals as we do.
  • Bad-temperedness, bad humor, envy, obduracy, fabrication and oppression these six characters should never be in the believers behavior.
  • The believer should live between two fears the past sin that he does not know what Allah will do about it and the remaining days that he does not know what misfortunes he will encounter during them. Thus, the believer begins his day fearfully and ends his day fearfully. Except fear, nothing mends the believer.
  • You will not be regarded as (true) believers before you see the misfortunes as graces and the luxury as disaster.
  • The possession of four thousand dirhams is fortune. The possession of twelve thousand dirhams is treasuring up. Twenty thousand dirhams cannot be amassed by legal ways. The possessor of thirty thousand dirhams will surely be suffering perdition. The possessors of one hundred thousand dirhams are definitely not reckoned with our adherents Shia.
  • The best deeds of the servants are three: they are to treat the believers fairly, to console the friends, and to mention Allah in every situation. Some asked: "What is the meaning of mentioning Allah in every situation?" The Imam (A.S.) answered: This means to mention Allah when you want to commit a sin so that He will prevent you from committing it.
  • Beware of joking, because it causes rancor and drives into malice. Joking is the lesser revilement.
  • Younus related: Before Imam as-Sadiq(A.S.) I said: My loyalty to you - the Holy Prophet's family - and recognition of your rights are most favorable to me than this world with all of its insides." I noticed the Holy Imam (A.S.) was enraged. After a while, he (A.S.) said: O Younus, you have evaluated us in an improper measurement. What is the world and what are its insides? It is no more than relief of a trouble or screening of a defect. By loyalty to us, you are gaining the endless life.
  • In misfortunes, Imam As-Sadiq(A.S.) used to say: All praise is due to Allah Who did not make my misfortune in my religious affairs. All praise is due to Allah Who could, if He willed, make my misfortune more catastrophic than what it is now. All praise is due to Allah for the matter that He willed to be, and it was as He willed.
  • If the world advances to some people, it will garb them with the others' charms. If it leaves some people, it usurps their own charms.
  • Daughters are advantages and sons are graces. You will be rewarded for the advantages and asked about the graces.

What is the American Leadership Initiative?

Over the past several years, it has becoming increasingly important for American Muslims to take on leadership roles in the community and engage the government in dialogue. Specifically this convention will focus on professionalism, civic engagement, citizenship and activism.

The American Leadership Initiative for Muslims Convention is dedicated to brainstorming actionable ideas, plans, and initiatives to elevate the status of our community in the United States. At the conclusion of the convention, attendees will return to their home communities with specific plans of action to effectuate these goals, and the Islamic Information Center will help to coordinate these nationwide initiatives throughout the year.
This convention includes site visits to crucial U.S. government agencies and meetings with government officials.  Each day, attendees will work together to strategize and establish goals to be achieved enact throughout the year. These meetings will not discuss hypothetical topics - but actual plans to implement the knowledge gained at the convention to help ALL Muslims, both locally and abroad!
The first step of leadership is having a vision.
