How To Develop Motivation in Your Everyday Life

Personal development, maximizing your potential, goals setting, motivating yourself for the better – these are some of the inter-related things that you need to work on as an individual

Here, we will set our sights on the many ways that you can develop motivation in life.

The Importance of Finding Out what Motivates You

First, let’s find out what the importance of motivation exactly is. Simply put, motivation is that driving force which allows you to achieve your goals and go after what you want in life. If you want to change your personality for the better, get a promotion at work, start a new habit, be a better person who is part of the community, become a better parent for your kid – all of these things would be easier accomplished if you are properly motivated.

As long as you have a strong personal motivation, you can achieve almost anything that you want from life. However, remember not to fall into the trap of looking for short-cuts to achieve your goals. It’s perfectly fine if you have to take a long and winding road to achieve your goal. It will be an even sweeter victory when you finally achieve your goal, knowing that you have had to go through several hurdles to attain it.

Developing Motivation in Life
So how can you develop motivation in life? If you wish to accomplish a goal – be it short-term or long-term in nature – how can you find it in you to be properly motivated? Here are a few things that you should keep in mind:

1. Focus on one goal at a time.

This should be partnered with the fact that you should make sure that your short-term goals all help in achieving your long-term goals. One of the best ways for you to focus on one goal at a time is to make a diary of your goals – yes, write it down – so that you will have a visual representation of the things that you want to achieve rather than letting it all get lost in your head.

2. Get rid of all the distractions which might prevent you from achieving your goal.

Let’s say that you are a writer who wants to finish a book. How can you type away on your keyboard one chapter after another if there are many distractions surrounding you like television, friends chattering away or the lure of aimlessly browsing through the Internet. In order for you to stay properly motivated, make sure to steer clear of any distractions.

3. Completely block out any negative influences.

Finally, make sure that you are completely blocking out any negative influences in your life. If you feel that you are being distracted from your goal by a problem which does not seem to go away, ask yourself what you can do to eliminate such a challenge and distraction in your life. Maybe you are being sidetracked by negative thoughts and feelings because you have no faith in yourself. Addressing the root of the problem, completely blocking out any negative distractions and thinking purely positive thoughts is the best way for you to develop motivation in your everyday life.

Constantly Work At Motivating Yourself
A goal doesn’t do you much good unless you are constantly thinking about, and working towards it. Write down your goal and place it somewhere that you will see it at least 1-2 times a day. If you have a weight loss goal, place your written goal beside the refrigerator. If your goal is to get physically stronger, place your written goal near your weight bench so you can see it when you are working out. This provides the extra motivation you need for those tough days.

A great way to motivate yourself with business goals is to put up a motivational quote beside your desk. Do a Google search for motivational quotes, then print off one and put it inside of a picture frame. Keep it there and read it occasionally throughout the day. Whenever you find yourself not looking at the quote anymore, or it no longer provides the inspiration that it once did, it’s time to change the quote. It’s perfectly OK to change this quote every 1-2 weeks for maximum motivation.

Some people make a habit of reading their goals either when they first wake up or right before they go to bed. When you read your goals upon arising, you may begin to notice that you find yourself doing more each day to help you reach your goals. Similarly, when you read your goals right before bed, you may notice that you wake up with good ideas that you never thought of before.

Final ThoughtsFinal Thoughts
It’s important to have motivation in your life. Motivation is the fuel that you need to continue striving for your goals. Soak up motivating things in your life on a daily basis. Read great books that will inspire you. Read great blogs that are both positive and informative.

It’s human nature to have days were you aren’t very motivated. However, if you continue to surround yourself with positive and motivational things, those days will be few and far between.

Retail Sectors General Performance aspects

The Income Statements
The income statement is a record of the revenues earned by an organization and the expenses incurred.

Income statement is the snapshot of a company’s operational performance for a particular period of time. It takes the company’s revenues and expenses and gives profits as the output. It is popularly known as the profit and Loss statements and is always created for a particular period of time.

For the investor it is an important tool for measuring the profitability of the business. As it states the income earned and the expenses incurred, it tells the investor whether the organization has made profits. If profits have been made, they can be passed on to the investors in the form of dividend and can also be reinvested in the business for growth. A comparison of income Statements over a period of time can also be made to gauge the stability of the business . When compared with other organizations in the same business it can call for a reassessment of the marketing strategy.

The Balance sheet

The other measure used by investors to study the turnover is the Balance sheet. The Balance sheet is like a financial snapshot of a company’s financial situation at a particular point of time. It gives the details of the company’s assets and liabilities at a particular point of time. The data shown in a Balance Sheet can be interpreted in two halves. The first half indicates the money being used in the business i.e. the net assets, and the second half sows the capital employed or where the money has been secured. The value of the two halves needs to be the same, i.e. the two halves need to balance hence the name Balance Sheet.

Some of key elements of the balance Sheet are Fixed Assets, Current Assets, Long term liabilities, Short term liabilities and the Net Worth .The long term assets, also known as fixed assets are not intended for resale. Examples would be land, buildings, fixtures, computers etc. The short term assets are known as current assets – assets that are used ay to day by the form. They include cash on hand, cash at bank, inventory and debtors.

The long term liabilities are those that have to be repaid over a period of time. Current liabilities o the other hand, are those that need to be paid in the current financial year. These included interest on loans, wages and salaries and payments to be made to suppliers. When reviewing the balance sheets needs to specially focus on the inventories ad accounts receivable .Items like inventories increasing rapidly or receivables growing too fast need to be looked into.

Other Measures of Performance

Merchandise assortments must be effective if the retail store is to prosper. An effective assortment is one that creates good financial returns. Effective planning at the SKU level is the key. While planning merchandise, it is necessary to take into account the space that will be occupied by the merchandise.

The two important measures of merchandise performance are:

1. GMROI and
2. Inventory turnover ratio

GMROI (Gross margin return on Investment): The Gross margin Return on Inventory (GMROI) tells a retailer how many times in year; the stock investment is returned with a given margin.

It is calculated using the following formula:

Gross Margin / Average Inventory, where the average inventory may be valued at cost or at retail prices In most cases, inventory is valued at retail prices.

Inventory Turnover Ratio: The inventory turnover indicates the number of terms in a year that the inventory is replaced. It is a useful tool for comparison across various segments of the industry. Inventory turnover is an important aspect of the overall profitability of the store and the merchandise. It varies across various retail segments. Typically food retailers earn low margins hence, they should operate o a high inventory turnover.

It is calculated by using either of the following formulae;

Inventory Turnover =Net sales / Average Inventory at Retail OR

Cost of goods sold / Average inventory at cost

Average inventory is calculated by dividing the amount of the inventory for each of several months by the number of month

Happy Employees Equal More Productivity

It sounds like an obvious clich? to say it, but like many clich?s there’s truth in it: happy employees are more productive. And yet it’s amazing how often you hear of companies suffering from massive turnover, instability and a failure to live up to their full potential by ignoring this.

Many small business owners will argue that they don’t have the budget to offer the kind of wages that will keep employees happy and focused, but actually this is a misnomer.

You don’t need the biggest wallet in the world (though it wouldn’t hurt!) to bribe employees, and some of the best ways of keeping staff focused and happy are free, just requiring a change in management mindset. The old adage that money can’t buy you happiness is worth considering - indeed in a survey of 2,000 workers, half said they would choose a low paying job they enjoyed over a high paying job they hated, and 38% said they would choose more free time over more money... So short of ineffective bribery, and unrealistic extra holiday time, here’s a few of the things to improve happiness in the workplace which won’t require you to make changes to your employment contracts and business documents...

Give Responsibility
Unless an employee is truly incompetent (in which case they won’t be the ones you’re desperate to keep anyway) any member of staff can undertake some decisions and be allowed to work independently. You don’t need to entrust them with your key business documents, but allowing them some freedom can do wonders for job satisfaction. Allowing the employees this little bit of responsibility and freedom will not only make them feel valued, but also make them more loyal to the company as suddenly their decisions - however small - have an impact on whether the business sinks or swims.

A Sense of Accomplishment
Workers aren’t keen on being cogs that are part of a bigger machine - or rather, they don’t mind, as long as they see that the machine achieves something! If each employee sees no tangible results from their day to day projects, then it’s no wonder they’d consider looking for an employment contract elsewhere.

Create a Happy Family
Making sure you hire the right people is imperative. If people become good friends in the office, then the urge to move on can easily be blocked by the loss of friendships. Be careful who you hire, and avoid those who are likely to cause disharmony, no matter how talented they may be!

Set Realistic Goals
One of the top reasons for normally satisfied employees seeking pastures new is an unrealistic workload and a set of unfair deadlines. Of course it’s important for a company’s growth to push staff to go that extra mile, but just make sure that mile doesn’t stretch into a full marathon! It’s a sure fire recipe to create (soon to be ex) employees who are both burned out and disillusioned.

Avoid Monotony
Right up there with realistic goals as a cause for frustrations is asking your employees to do work with little to no variety. Doing the same work every day, every month is certain to make employees’ minds wander to greener pastures. Finding variety and different documents to work on isn’t hard, and it’s definitely something which will boost performance.

None of these things cost money or require changes to your employment contracts and business documents - they just require a little foresight and skilled management. If you tick the basic boxes, and offer wage rises and bonuses when deserved, you should be able to minimise disruption and create a happy, productive workplace that goes on to great things.

THE POWER OF LOVE……(Short Message).

A mighty King was marching home after being victorious
in a battle. He captured the crown of the neighboring kingdom
& killed the King. The King was passing through a jungle.
He wanted to rest. The army halted there for the evening.
Nearby was a hermitage. The king decided to pay his respects
to the sage there. He sent his Minister & some soldiers to seek
an audience. They told the disciples that, "Maharaj wants to
meet the sage." The disciples said, "Guruji has retired for the day,
you can come tomorrow." The next morning the King came
to the hermitage dressed in his royal dress, with his ministers.
The sage was sitting under a tree & scattering seeds all around.
Hundreds of birds of different kinds were eating & the sound
of their twittering filled the air.

The King walked up to the sage. The sage did not look up.
The king said, "Pranam, Guruji!"
No answer.
He spoke louder, "Pranam, Guruji!"
Still, no answer.
"Guruji, I said Pranam!" he said in an angry voice.
The sage looked up & said, "Stop shouting,
you are scaring the birds.

That made the king even more angry.
"Do you know who I am….?" king shouted.
The sage said calmly, "Yes, I do.
You are the one who kills the love for power.
You are the one who doesn’t know that this power is temporary.
One day another King shall kill you in the same way.
The love of power shall bring about your downfall.
The king was beside himself with rage. He said,
"Your impertinence is intolerable.
I shall behead you just now…!!"
He drew out his sword & raised it to strike the sage.
In an instant, hundreds of birds flew up & attacked the king.
They poked their beaks into his face, his eyes & his arms.
The king moved his arms up & around to ward off the birds.
But the birds wouldn't leave him.
The sage said, "Leave him! Leave him! Come to me my dears!"
All at once, the birds came down & sat at the feet of the sage.

The sage said, "All I ever gave these birds is love.
Oh King…! Realize the power of love. The love of power
has blinded you & brought you to the level of a killer.
These birds would have killed you, but that's because
they love me. I rule over them like a king too,
but the only power I ever exercise over them is
the power of love & it is greatest power on this Earth."

Moral of the Story:-

It’s not what You gather, But what You scatter
That tells what kind of Life you have Lived……..!!!

Treat everyone with politeness ,
even to those who are rude to you,
Not because they are not nice,
but because you are nice.....!!!

99% Problems of Life are due to the Tone of Voice,
It's not what you say……..but
How you say that creates the problem…….!!!

THE BEAUTY OF CHARITY

In the name of God, the almighty
The Best Charity!
Once a companion of the Prophet (S.A.W.W.) called Saad had gone to the battle field outside Medina. On the way, Saad heard that his mother who had been sick had died. Saad who loved his mother very much came to the Prophet (s.a.w.w.) and said that he had wanted to give charity on his mother's behalf but it had not been possible for him.
He then enquired if he could give charity on her behalf now that she was dead. The Prophet (s.a.w.w.) replied in the affirmative. Saad then went on to inquire what was the best charity he could offer? The Prophet (s.a.w.w.) said that on the route to the battle field he had seen that the soldiers were thirsty and there was a dire need of water.
The Prophet suggested that the best charity was to dig a well on the road so that caravans would benefit from the supply of water and it would also be a continuous form of charity for years to come. That was what Saad did. (AL MA'AAD BAINAL ROOH WAL JASAD, MUHAMMED TAQI FALSAFI VOL 2 PAGE 219)

Never discontinue a charitable act!
Shaheed Seyyid Abdul Hussein Dastghaib, may Allah's mercy be on him, relates that a great and pious man told him the following event.
A relative of this pious man had bought a property on which he had built a house. After the death of this relative, the pious man saw him in his dream one night. The relative was blind, and when he was asked the cause of his blindness he related to the pious man the reason for his bad state.
He related that when he had bought the land, there was a well in it by means of which the villagers in the surrounding villages benefited. However the relative ordered for the well to be closed. The villagers faced the constraint of going through long distances to get their supply of water. The result of this act was blindness in the life hereafter.
The pious man asked his relative in the dream whether he could do anything for him to relieve him of this bad state. The man replied in the affirmative, and suggested that his heirs should endeavor to open that well for the villagers' benefit. The pious man stood up to carry out this act, and after some time he dreamt that his relative had got back his sight and was thanking him for the help given to him. The Satan's trap or bait
We shall consider three good deeds of men that the Satan makes the best efforts to nullify. They are:
  • Ahad: Promises or resolutions.
  • Nazr: Or offerings.
  • Sadaqa: Or Charity
When a person resolves to Allah for performing a certain act and to give a nazr (offering) after its fulfillment in accordance with the norms of fiqh, the Satan tries all the subterfuges at his command to prevent him from offering the promised nazr!

Similarly when one wants to give a sadaqa in Allah's way, Satan tries his level best to prevent the person from giving it. It has been oft recorded that when a person puts his hand in his pocket then Satan, and his numerous retainers, cling to the person's hand and put all sorts of fears in his mind. As the Holy Quran warns

Ash shaitan yaadakum al faqra wa yamurukumbil fahsha- Al Baqra 268
The Satan threateneth you with poverty and enjoineth on you sordidness.

They will put a fear in the mind of the person that after doing the charity he will be left with nothing and render him penurious. Sometimes they put a fear in the mind of the person that after doing the charity if he gets some urgent need for personal expense, then from where he will get help! Therefore they persuade the person to refrain from doing charity in the way of Allah.

Allah's call & the call of Satan

Satan has been created with the sole purpose of testing the human beings. He encourages opening of cinema houses and trains satanic men and entangles the two- legged animals in his bait.

Doesn't the call of 'Haiaalal falah' (come for the good act) emanate from the mosque in the vicinity of cinema halls at the time of Maghrib Prayer? These two situations are in the immediate neighborhood of each other to test the people as to who are righteous and who are going astray!

Who knows/ The Day of Reckoning might be tomorrow! For that Day the right to get Reward and Retribution is being earned by men today!

Allah's promise & Satan's promise

It is a human failing that man gives more credence to Satan's promises. Satan prevents him from spending in the way of Allah by creating unfounded fears in his heart. The thought is generated in the man's mind that what he would do if a more important need for expenditure arises soon and he would be without the money that he was giving for the good cause now. .

But man forgets Allah's promise and goes back on spending on good causes. He remains in the service of Satan and is carried away, spending huge amounts for name and fame, hearing his name mentioned on the radio, television and the newspapers!

When Allah exhorts people to be kind to their poor neighbors, needy relatives and to help them monetarily, they make an excuse that their financial status doesn't permit doing any such charity. But when Satan dictates about expense on worldly activities, they spend without giving a second thought!

The purpose of creation of Satan is to put man to test

We all talk of Allah and the Day of Judgement. But do we really have a strong faith is a moot question! It is only Satan (and his ilk) that is a touchstone for testing the humans.

If you take Allah's name with implicit faith, then why you don't have confidence in His promises. If, unfortunately, you have accepted the fears that Satan has put in you mind, then you will be rendered a mominonly in the namesake. If you have a strong belief in the existence of the Heaven, then why you don't make a sincere effort to earn a place in it! Why don't you try to avoid going to the Hell as Retribution for the evil deeds committed under the spell of Satan!

Wa ma kaana lahu alaihim min sultanin illa lenalama mai yaumenu bil aakhirate mimman huwa minha fi shak
And there is not for him any authority over them , save that We would know (distinguish) him who believeth in the hereafter, from him who is in doubt concerning it.----Saba 21

You see that a particular lady has claims of piety. Satan approaches her in the garb of a human being and says, ' Madam! You have become old-fashioned and retrograde! You have covered yourself in such a clumsychadar (shawl)'. When you happen to see the lady a second time, she will not look much different from gentlemen! Satan creates such doubts, fears and changes in the human beings.

Definitely, the purpose of the creation of Satan is to test the human beings as to their determination to be steadfast on the right path. Those who are fickle minded and susceptible to be led astray by Satan are also tested by Satan! Thus Allah gets a proof of who is momin (pious) and who is fajir (hypocrite.)
Jun 21, '10 4:20 AM
for everyone

As far as the purpose for Satan's creation, the Omnipotent Allah creates whatever He desires to. The raison d'être (hikmat) for creation of Satan requires a detailed discussion which will be out of place here. But, in a nutshell, the creation of Satan (and his ilk) is to test the felicity of the human beings. When men ward away the subterfuges of Satan, they heir a place in the Heaven and those who are misled by him, will be Hell bound!

Allah has ordered men to do charity. Satan asked people not to do charity lest their horde of wealth diminishes! Those who have wisdom and strong faith snub Satan and tell him,' Allah says:

Wa ma anfaqtum min shai in fahua yaqlaqhu wa huwa khair
ur raazeqeen

Whatever you spend, We shall replenish. We are the Best of Providers.

If you are steadfast in determination and patience like a mountain, then wisdom and knowledge will take you to such a place that it becomes evident if you were irresolute, the Satanic fears would sway your feet! It is the existence of Satan that proves the felicity of men of piety and wisdom who are steadfast despite all the stratagems of the accursed one!

A pale and dusty old man came into the mosque. He was clad in rags. He went to the Prophet and in three short sentences explained his circumstances:
"Oh Prophet of God, I am hungry, give me food. "I am clothless, give me clothes. "I am without means, help me!" The Prophet (S.A.) told him, "I have nothing in hand. Go to my daughter's house. She will help you. The house of Fatima was near and one of the Prophet's companions led the old man to it. The old man knocked at the door.
”Who is it?"
"I'm a hungry person, I'm clothless, I'm without means, be kind and generous to me, God will be kind and generous to you.

Fatima took from her neck the necklace given to her by her cousin and gave it to the old man saying. "Sell this  necklace and spend the money. I hope that in the future you will be free of need."
The poor man returned happily. The Prophet was still in the mosque. The old man showed the necklace and said, "Oh Prophet, your daughter, Fatima, gave me her necklace to sell."
One of the Prophet's friends, Ammar ibn Yasir, heard what the old man said and asked him what price he wanted.

The old man said that he would sell it for enough food to satisfy his hunger, enough cloth to clothe his body, and enough money to get home.

Ammar said, "I buy this necklace from you, "for a meal of bread and meat, "clothes of Yemenite cloth, "a four- footer' to take you home, "and, in addition, eight dinars of gold and 200 dirhams of silver."
Ammar then took the old man home and paid him the price of the necklace.
The old man ate the food, put on the clothes and went on his way satisfied and happy.
Then Ammar put perfume on the necklace, wrapped it up in a piece of cloth and ordered his slave, "Go to the Prophet of God. I have given you and this necklace to him."
The slave went to the Prophet and delivered Ammar's message.
The Holy Prophet looked at the necklace and said, "And I have given you and the necklace to my daughter."
The slave went to Holy Fatima and told her what the Prophet had said and presented the necklace. Fatima thanked him and said, "And in the path of God, I have freed you. You are not a slave anymore!"
That man, the slave, became very happy and with joy and surprise said, "What a blessed necklace!
"It satisfied hunger, "clothed the body. "Bestowed means in place of helplessness, "mounted the walker, "freed the slave, "and finally returned to its owner!"
The Holy Prophet of Islam and his followers strove hard to combat slavery and were continually freeing slaves, whatever the price. Thus, in Islam, the freeing of slaves is counted amongst the highest acts of worship, and, in some circumstances, is even considered obligatory.
Here are a few thoughts from His Eminence Ayatullah Behjat (One of the great Alims andMystics of our time) on the issue of concentration during prayers.

Sheikh Muhsin Gharavian was once granted audience in the presence of Ayatullah al-Udhma Shaikh Muhammad Taqi Behjat (may the Almighty prolong his blessed presence amongst us) and asked him: “O Scholar! Despite our advanced age we haven’t have yet experienced the pleasure of worship especially the sweetness of communication with God in salaat. According to your opinion what should we do to experience even a little pleasure of what our Infallible Imams have promised us?”

His eminence nodded his head and said: (Dear son)“Actually this is a universal problem. All of us are plagued with this ailment.”

The Sheikh was not satisfied with the answer and requested him for more
concrete advice: “Our status differs from that which you have achieved, you’ve attained the heights of spirituality while we are the beginners! what should we do?”

His Eminence said: “May be I also wish I could acquire your status!”

Not contented with the self-effacing answer, he requested for more clarification. His Eminence replied: “In order to acquire the necessary concentration in Salaah one should observe

a) certain pre-requisites before Salaah and

b)certain discipline during Salaah.
Explanation:s
a) before Salaah one should observe Taqwa (God consciousness)and one should abstain from all sins that lead to darkening of the God-given purity of heart. SINS POLLUTE THE PURITY OF THE HEART and therefore reduce the luminosity of the heart.

b) during Salaah one should erect a “high security wire” around one’s heart such that no unwanted tresspasser (distracting devilish thoughts) is allowed inside the holy sanctuary of the heart. One’s thoughts should be intensely directed towards God and none other than Him should be allowed in. And if one’s thoughts start straying, immediately the moment one comes to know, one should guide these towards the right direction.

Once His Eminence was asked as to how to increase concentration in one’s daily prayers?

Initially His Eminence put his face down and then raised his head and responded: “The oil in the lamp seems to be low!”meaning that the Ma’refat (awareness) of the All- Magnificent One is not enough (as to experience the sweetness of spiritual communication) and therefore needs to be enriched and one’s Imaan (faith) is weak and hence needs to be strengthened.
Ustad Khusro Shaahi quotes: “Once His Eminence was asked how can we create in ourselves concentration during prayers ?”

His Eminence replied: “One of the factors which help create concentration is by excercising control over our physical senses (ie EYES, EARS, TONGUE etc) throughout the day since concentration can only be created through proper preliminaryrequirements which include the close monitoring of the physical senses.”

On one occasion His Eminence Ayatullah al-Udhma Behjat was asked:
“What should we do in order to obtain the state of total obedience to God’s commands especially His command that states in Sura Muminoon, Verses 1-2 - “Indeed successful are the Believers, those who humble themselves in their prayers” How can a believer acquire this lofty state of humility?”

His Eminence replied: “At the beginning of prayers one should sincerely seek intercession of the Awaited Imam of the time (May the Almighty hasten his re-appearance and include us from his helpers) and perform the prayers in its required manner.”

And finally when His Eminence Ayatullah Al-Udhma Behjat was asked: “How does one achieve a presence of mind in Salaat and obtain control over one's thoughts and feelings?”
His Eminence wrote back in reply:
“In His Name, the Exalted the moment when you acquire attention (towards your Lord) do not allow it to disappear.”

How can you have two loves in your heart?

Zainab was the daughter of Imam Ali bin Abi Talib. She was a sister of Imam Hassan and Imam Hussein  She gave an excellent speech. Her speech is very famous upto now. So is Zainab famous, for her divine virtues which are a beacon of light for all muslim women.
Once when Zainab was a very young girl she went to her father Ali and said: "'Oh father, do you love me?"
"Certainly, my darling, I do love you", replied the father.
Again Zainab asked: "Do you also love Allah?"
"Of course, I do love Allah, my child", replied the father.
Zainab was puzzled with the reply. She asked again:
"Oh father, how it is possible to have two loves in one heart?"
Ali was pleased with the question. He smiled and replied:
"Dear child, I love you because it is Allah's command to love one's children. In loving you I love God."
Moral: Love others for the sake of the command of God.

Rajab marks the beginning of the spiritual season of every believer ending with the end of the fasting month of Ramadan with the Eid Al-Fitr. These three months (Rajab, Sha'ban and Ramadan) are unmatched in their importance. Praise be to the Almighty and thanks to Him for granting us yet another opportunity to cleanse ourselves of our sins and oversights.
The Holy Prophet Muhammad (saw) has said: "Rajab is a great month of Allah (SWT), unmatched by any other month in the respect and significance (accorded to it); war with the infidels during this month is prohibited; Verily, Rajab is Allah's month, Sha'ban my month and Ramadan the month of my Ummah; whosoever fasts a day in the month of Rajab will be granted the great reward of Ridwan (an angel in heaven); the wrath of Allah (SWT) shall be distanced and a door of the Hell shall be closed."
Fasting is one of the most recommended acts during this spiritual season. It becomes Wajib (obligatory) during the month of Ramadan, but is highly recommended during the months of Rajab and Sha'ban. As will be noted from the Hadith above and others to follow, fasting, be it for only one day during these months, is rewarded with untold bounties.
Hazrat Salman Al-Farsi narrates that the Final messenger of Allah, the Holy Prophet Muhammad (saw) said that there is a day in the month of Rajab on which if a person fasts and does Qiyaamul Lail (night vigil) on that night, he will receive rewards like a person who fasts for 100 years and does Qiyaamul Lail for nights of 100 years. This night is the night of the 27th (Rajab) and the day of the 27th (Rajab). This is the day on which the Holy Prophet Muhammad (saw) was appointed to Messenger hood.
Hazrat Salman Al-Farsi narrates that the Beloved of Allah, the Holy Prophet Muhammad (saw) said "O Salman, there is no Mumin (True Believer) and Muminah (Truly Believing Female) who performs 30 Raka'ah in the month of Rajab and in each Raka'ah recites Surah Al-Fatihah once, Surah Al-Ikhlas 3 times, and Surah Al-Kafiroon 3 times that Allah (SWT) does forgive them their sins and bestows rewards upon them as upon a person who has fasted a whole month. He becomes among those who will be steadfast in their Salaat in the year which is to come. For him the deeds of the day are equal to that of the martyr. He will be raised with the Martyrs of the Holy Battle of Badr. For him is written for the fast of each day, one year's worship. His station is raised 1000 times higher.
If he fasts the entire month of Rajab and he performs this (above) Salaat, Allah (SWT) will give him salvation from the Hell Fire, make Wajib (obligatory) for him, His Paradise and bestow His Nearness upon him. Hazrat Jibril (Gabriel) informed me "O Muhammad this is the sign between you and the Mushrikeen (Polytheists) and the Munafiqun (Hypocrites) because the Munafiq does not perform this Salaat."
Hazrat Salman Al-Farsi says, I beseeched "O messenger of Allah tell me when and how shall I perform this Salaat (Prayer)" The Holy Prophet Muhammad (saw) said "O Salman, perform 10 Raka'ah on the first of it (month of Rajab) and in each Raka'ah recite Surah Al-Fatihah once, Surah Al-Ikhlas 3 times, and Surah Al-Kafiroon 3 times and after you do your Salaam (at the end of the Salaat) raise your hands and say:
"There is no God but Allah, The One Who has no partners. To Him belong His entire Kingdom and all the praise, Who created life and death and Who is Alive without Death. From His hands (only) good is done and Who has Power over everything. Dearest Allah, no one can stop what You bestow and no one can give what You prevent. There is no one who can profit us except You the August among all." Then spread your hands over your face.
In the middle of the month perform 10 Raka'ah and in each Raka'ah recite Surah Al-Fatihah once, Surah Al-Ikhlas 3 times, and Surah Al-Kafiroon 3 times and after you do your salaam (at the end of the Salaat) raise your hands towards the heavens and say:
"There is no God but Allah, the One who has no partners. To Him belong His entire Kingdom and all the praise. Who created life and death and Who is Alive without Death. From His Hands (only) good is done and Who has Power over everything. The only God, Unique, Who has no needs. He has no wife and no children." Then spread your hands over your face.
You perform this Salaat at the end of the month, 10 Raka'ah. In every Raka'ah recite Surah Al-Fatihah once, Surah Al-Ikhlas 3 times, and Surah Al-Kafiroon 3 times. After you do your salaam, raise your hand towards the heaven and say:
"There is no God but Allah, The One Who has no partners. To Him belong His entire Kingdom and all the praise. Who created life and death and Who is Alive without Death. From His Hands (only) good is done and Who has Power over everything. And the blessing of Allah be upon the Master Muhammad and upon his pure progeny and there is no power greater than that of Allah Who is the Greatest in Might".
Then ask for your needs (to be fulfilled). Your Supplication will be accepted and Allah (SWT) will create 70 trenches between you and the Hell fire, the distance between each trench will be like it is between Heaven and Earth and written for you will be freedom from Fire of Hell, and from crossing the Bridge of Siraat." When the Beloved of Allah, The Holy Prophet Muhammad (saw) had finished, I fell down in prostration, weeping out of gratitude towards Allah (SWT) for the abundance of the rewards.
We present this beautiful hadith from Imam Musa Kadhim (as) on the greatness of Rajab and just fasting one day from this blessed month.
It has been narrated from the Holy Prophet Muhammad (saw) in a very long hadith that there is no month as great or noble in the sight of Allah (SWT) as the month of Rajab and even the Arabs of the time of Ignorance held this month in great esteem, and with the coming of the religion of al-Islam at the hands of the final Messenger of Allah, nothing was added to it except an increase in its greatness. The Holy Prophet Muhammad (saw) went on to say that the month of Rajab is the month of Allah; Sha'ban was his month and the month of Ramadan was the month of his Ummah (Muslim Community).
In this length tradition which can be found in Thawaab al-Aamal wa Iqaab al-Aamal (new print), Page 115 to 124, the Holy Prophet Muhammad (saw) went on to mention the specialties and favors that would be showered upon that person who fasted during this month and for every day he fasted, a different favor and bounty would be graced upon him.
Our Holy Prophet Muhammad (may Allah shower him and his righteous family with never-ending blessings), if a person were to fast one day in this month for the belief and hope of reward from Allah (SWT), then he would have earned the pleasure of Allah (SWT) and the fast of that one day would put out the anger of Allah (SWT) and would cause the doors of the hellfire to be closed for him. If the entire land were to be filled with gold and that gold was to be spent in the way of Allah (SWT), then even this act would not add up to the bounties of fasting just one day. There is not a single thing in the world that would perfect that person's reward except for good (from Allah (SWT)) as long as he was sincere to Allah (SWT) (in has fasting). When the evening time comes, ten of that person's prayers would be granted, and if he were to supplicate for anything of the worldly life, Allah (SWT) would give it to him, and if it were not given to him, then Allah (SWT) would preserve that which is greater (than what he supplicated for) and that which the friends, lovers and chosen ones of Allah have prayed to him for.
We pray to Allah (SWT) during this blessed month that we are able to supplicate to Him and that our supplications, especially that of the speedy return of our Imam and Master al-Mahdi al-Muntazar (May our souls be sacrificed for the dirt under his feet), are accepted. May Allah (SWT) give us all the strength and will-power to fast this entire month as a prelude to the month of Sha'ban - a month of blessings and mercy including the birth anniversary of the Savior of Humanity on the 15th of the Month, culminating with the Blessed month of Ramadan - the month of peace and tranquility.
Useful points for this month of Rajab - An Important Spiritual Month:
1) Fasting: It is highly recommended to fast in this month of Rajab even for one day at least. A hadith says: Whosoever fasts a day in Rajab, the fire of hell will be away from him a distance of one year's journey, and whosoever fasts 3 days in Rajab, will be entitled for Paradise. Imam Ali (as) used to fast the whole month of Rajab.
2) Seeking Forgiveness (Al-Istighfaar, Istighfar): The Holy Prophet Muhammad (saw) used to say: Rajab is a month of seeking forgiveness, so seek forgiveness from Allah (SWT); He is verily the Forgiver, the Merciful. It is highly recommended to repeat 'Astaghfirullaah wa as-aluhut tawbah'
3) Sadaqa and Charity: There is a big reward for Sadaqa and charity in the month of Rajab. Those who cannot fast may give Sadaqa to the poor every day, or recite 'Subhana Ilalahil Jaleele Subhana Man la Yanbaghil Tasbeeho Illa Lahoo; Subhanal A'azzinil Akrame; Subhana Man Labisal Izza wa Howa Lahoo Ahlun.'
4) Repeating 'Laa ilaaha illa-Allah' 1000 times.
5) Repeating 'Astaghfirullaaha zul jalale wal Ikraam min jamee al zonoobe wal aathaam' 1000 times.
6) Repeating Sura Al Tawheed 'Qul-ho-wallaho Ahad' or Surah Al-Ikhlas 1000 times to get the reward of 1000 Angels and blessings on the reciter, his / her children, family and neighbours.
7) It is recommended to recite Sura Al Tawheed 'Qul-ho-wallaho Ahad' or Surah Al-Ikhlas 100 times every Friday in the month of Rajab.
Praise be to the Almighty Allah (SWT) and thanks to Him for granting us yet another opportunity to cleanse ourselves of our sins and oversights. (Rajab Aamal and Dua)
