Facts are Facts :-)

These are bunch of things which I learnt from my experience...
  • Whenever I find the key to success, someone changes the lock.
  • To Error is human, to forgive is not a COMPANY policy.
  • The road to success........ is always under construction.
  • Alcohol doesn't solve any problems, but if you think again, neither does Milk.
  • In order to get a Loan, you first need to prove that you don't need it.
  • All the desirable things in life are illegal, expensive or fattening.
  • Since Light travels faster than Sound, people appear brighter before you hear them speak.
  • Everyone has a scheme of getting rich..... which never works.
  • If at first you don't succeed.... Destroy all evidence that you ever tried.
  • You can never determine which side of the bread to butter. If it falls down, it will always land on the buttered side.
  • Anything dropped on the floor will roll over to the most inaccessible corner.
  • 42.7% of all statistics is made on the spot.
  • As soon as you mention something...... if it is good, it is taken.... If it is bad, it happens.
  • He who has the gold, makes the rules Murphy's golden rule.
  • If you come early, the bus is late. If you come late...... the bus is still late.
  • Once you have bought something, you will find the same item being sold somewhere else at a cheaper rate.
  • When in a queue, the other line always moves faster and the person in front of you will always have the most complex of transactions.
  • If you have paper, you don't have a pen....... If you have a pen, you don't have paper...... if you have both, no one calls.
  • Especially for Students: If you have bunked the class, the professor has taken attendance.
  • You will pick up maximum wrong numbers when on roaming.
  • The door bell or your mobile will always ring when you are in the bathroom.
  • If your exam is tomorrow, there will be a power cut tonight.
  • The last person to be fired or quit is responsible for all the errors until another person is fired or quits.
  • Irrespective of the direction of the wind, the smoke from the cigarette will always tend to go to the non-smoker ...............

 Engineer and Manager
A man in a hot air balloon realized he was lost. He reduced altitude and spotted a woman below. He descended a bit more and shouted,” Excuse me, can you help? I promised a friend I would meet him an hour
ago, but I don't know where I am."

The woman below replied, "You are in a hot air balloon hovering approximately 30 feet above the ground. You are between 40 and 41 degrees north latitude and between 59 and 60 degrees west longitude."

"You must be an engineer," said the balloonist.

"I am," replied the woman. "How did you know?"

"Well," answered the balloonist, "everything you told me is technically correct, but I have no idea what to make of you, and the fact is I am still lost. Frankly, you've not been much help so far."

The woman below responded, "You must be in management."

"I am," replied the balloonist, "but how did you know?"

"Well," said the woman, "you don't know where you are or where you are going. You have risen to where you are, due to a large quantity of hot air. You made a promise which you have no idea how to keep, and you expect people beneath you to solve your problems. The fact is you are in exactly the same position you were in before we met, but now, somehow, it's my fault!"

The House Of Imam Ali a.s.

The Commander of the Faithful Ali ibn Abi Talib (peace be upon him) describes the Qur’an as follows: “Then Allah(Glorified and Exalted is He) revealed to him (the Prophet (blessings of Allah be upon him and his progeny)) the Book.

• It is a light whose radiance shall not be extinguished;
• A lamp whose flame shall not die;
• An ocean whose depth shall not be fathomed;
• A path which shall not lead astray;
• A blaze whose brilliance shall not be darkened;
• A criterion whose evidence shall not be suppressed;
• An elucidation whose cornerstones shall not be demolished;
• A cure with which there is no fear of ailments;
• A power whose supporters cannot be defeated;
• A truth whose helpers will not be forsaken.
• Thus, it is the source of faith and its prosperity;
• It is the fountain-head of knowledge and its vastness;
• The meadow of justice and its flowing streams;
• The support of Islam and its foundation;
• The valleys of the truth and its fields;
• An ocean that shall not be drained by those who draw upon it;
• A spring that shall not be exhausted by those who draw from it;
• A watering place that shall not be depleted by those who come to it;
• A station whose road the travelers do not miss;
• A signpost which the wayfarers will always see;
• The hilltops that cannot be bypassed by those who seek them.
• Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) has made it the quencher of the thirst of scholars,
• A vernal season for the hearts of the jurists,
• A destination for the path of the righteous,
• A cure after which there is no malady,
• A light which does not alternate with darkness,
• A rope whose knots are firm,
• A stronghold whose peak is impregnable.
• It is power for whoever cultivates it,
• Peace for whoever dwells on it,
• A guidance for whoever follows it,
• A laudable act for whoever embraces it,
• An argument for whoever speaks for it,
• A witness for whoever fights for it,
• A sharp instrument for whoever bases his arguments on it,
• A support for whoever supports it,
• A means of deliverance for whoever employs it,
• A sign for the discriminating, a shelter for whoever seeks healing,
• A source of knowledge for whoever has sense,
• And the best narrative for its transmitters,
• And a means for the one who sits in judgment.”

Imam 'Ali Ibn Abi Talib (peace be upon him) has said, "By Allah, by Allah, keep the House of your Lord in mind.  Do not disregard it as long as you remain (alive) because surely if it is ignored, then He shall not look towards you (with His Mercy)."

It has been narrated from 'Ali [Ibn Abi Talib] (peace be upon him) that he said, "Jibra'il descended to the Prophet (blessings of Allah be upon him and his family) and said to him, 'O' Muhammad!  Command your companions al-'Ajj and al-Thalj.  The 'Ajj is to raise your voice in pronouncing the Talbiyyah (Labbayk Allahumma Labbayk) out loud, while the Thalj is to slaughter an animal (on the day of 'Eid)."

It has been narrated from al-Ridha [Imam 'Ali Ibn Musa] (peace be upon him) that he said, "I have not seen a single thing which makes a person free from want (financially secure) quicker, nor which is more effective in removing poverty, than continuously performing the Hajj (year after year)."

Biharul Anwar, Volume 74, Page 318

6 - Dying While on the Way to Hajj

It has been narrated form Abi 'Abdillah [Imam Ja'far Ibn Muhammad as-Sadiq] (peace be upon him) that he said, "A person who dies while proceeding towards Makkah or while returning back (from Makkah) will be protected from the great distress of the Day of Resurrection. "

It has been narrated from Abi 'Abdillah [Imam Ja'far Ibn Muhammad as-Sadiq] (peace be upon him) that he said, "Those who perform the Hajj and the 'Umrah are the guests of Allah.  If they ask Him for something, He will grant it to them; if they call upon Him then He will answer them; if they intercede (for others), their intercession will be accepted; if they remain quiet, then He will begin to speak to them; for every dirham which they spend (in their trip to the Hajj), they will receive one million dirhams in return."

It has been narrated from al-Baqir [Imam Muhammad Ibn 'Ali] (peace be upon him) that: "As long as a person is looking at the Ka'bah, good deeds will be written (in his record) and one's evil deeds will be erased until one turns away one's glance (from the Ka'bah)."

10 - Intention for the Hajj

It has been narrated from Abi 'Abdillah [Imam Ja'far Ibn Muhammad as-Sadiq] (peace be upon him) that, "Hajj is of two types: Hajj for the sake of Allah and Hajj for the sake of people.  A person who performs Hajj for Allah, surely his reward will be with Allah - Paradise; and a person who performs Hajj for people, surely his reward will be with people (to give him) on the Day of Resurrection. "

11 - Fasting on the Day of Tashriq in Mina

As-Sadiq [Imam Ja'far Ibn Muhammad] (peace be upon him) was asked, "Why is it discouraged to fast on the days of Tashriq (11th, 12th, and 13th of Dhul Hijjah)?"  The Imam (peace be upon him) replied, "Since people are visiting Allah and are His guests (during these days), it is not advisable that a guest should fast in the presence of the One whom he is visiting."

Biharul Anwar, Volume 96, Page 34

12 - Hajj or Jihad?

It has been narrated from as-Sadiq [Imam Ja'far Ibn Muhammad] (peace be upon him) who said, "There is no path from the paths of Allah which is greater than Hajj, except when a person comes out with his sword and strives in the way of Allah until he is martyred."

Biharul Anwar, Volume 96, Page 49

13 - Reward for the Tawa f

The Noble Prophet (blessings of Allah be upon him and his family) has said, "A person who circumambulates this House (the Ka'bah) seven times and performs the two Rak'at Salat (of Tawaaf) in the best form possible will have his sins forgiven."

Biharul Anwar, Volume 96, Page 49

14 - Hajj and the Renewal of the Pledge

Abu Ja'far [Imam Muhammad Ibn 'Ali al-Baqir] (peace be upon him) has said, "The Hajr (Hajrul Aswad – the Black Stone) is like the pledge (of Allah) and rubbing the hand over it is like making a pledge of allegiance (to Allah)."  Whenever the Imam (peace be upon him) would rub his hand over the Hajrul Aswad he used to say:

أَللٌّهُمَّ أَمَانَتِي أَدَّيْتُهَا وَ مِيثَاقِي تَعَاهَدَتْهُ لِيَشْهَدَلِي عِنْدَكَ بِالْبَلاَغِ

"O' Allah!  I have fulfilled my trust and have renewed my pledge so that it (the Hajr al-Aswad) can bear witness that surely I have fulfilled my responsibility. "

15 - The Success and Perpetuity of Islam

It has been narrated from Abi 'Abdillah [Imam Ja'far Ibn Muhammad as-Sadiq] (peace be upon him) who said, "As long as the Ka'bah is standing, the religion (of al-Islam) will remain standing."

Biharul Anwar, Volume 96 Page 57

16 - Philosophy Behind the Name "Al-Ka'bah"

It has been narrated that Abi Ja'far [Imam Muhammad Ibn 'Ali al-Baqir] (peace be upon him) was asked, "Why is it (the Ka'bah) named Baitul 'Atiq (the Emancipated House)?"  The Imam replied: "Because this house is free and emancipated from people and was never under the ownership of anyone."

Biharul Anwar, Volume 96, Page 59

17- Three Sacred Things

It has been narrated from Abi 'Abdillah [Imam Ja'far Ibn Muhammad as-Sadiq] (peace be upon him) who said, "Surely Allah, the Noble and Grand, has made three things sacred and there is nothing else equivalent to them: His Book (the Qur'an) which is His Command and Divine Light; His House (The Ka'bah) which He has made as the focal point (Qiblah) and He will not accept from anyone facing any other direction; and the family of your Prophet."

Biharul Anwar, Volume 96, Page 60

18 – Donations to Maintain the Ka'bah

It has been narrated from 'Ali [Ibn Abi Talib] (peace be upon him) who said, "If I were to possess two valleys flowing with gold and silver, I would not donate a single thing to the Ka'bah because it would reach the (unworthy) people who maintain the Ka'bah – and not to the poor and deserving people."

Biharul Anwar, Volume 96, Page 67

19 - The Safety of the Sanctuary (Haram)

It has been narrated from 'Abdullah Ibn Sanan from Abi 'Abdillah [Imam Ja'far Ibn Muhammad as-Sadiq] (peace be upon him) that he asked, "What is the meaning of His words:

}وَ مَنْ دَخَلَهُ كَانَ أَمِناً {
{And whosoever enters into it (the Haram), does so in safety.}

Does this refer to the Ka'bah or the entire Sanctuary (Haram)?"

The Imam (peace be upon him) replied, "A person who enters into the Sanctuary (Haram) seeking protection, shall remain protected; whoever from amongst the true believers enters into the Sanctuary (Haram) seeking protection from the wrath of Allah shall be protected from it; and whichever wild and domestic animal or bird enters into the Sanctuary (Haram) will be protected from being disturbed and bothered until it leaves the Sanctuary (Haram)."

20 - The Four Chosen Cities

The Messenger of Allah (blessings of Allah be upon him and his family) has said, "Surely Allah has chosen four cities from amongst all others, just as He, the Noble and Grand has said (in the Noble Qur'an):

} وَ التِّيْنِ وَ الزَّيْتُونِ وَ طُُورِ سِينِينَ وَ هٌذَا الْبَلَدِ الأَمِينَ {

"I swear by 'the fig' and 'the olive' and the 'Mountain of Sinai' and by this protected city."

'The fig' is the city of Madinah; 'The olive' is the city of Baitul Maqdas (in Jerusalem); 'The Mountain of Sinai' is Kufah; and the protected city is Makkah."

21 - Performing the Hajj with Haraam Wealth

Abu Ja'far [Imam Muhammad Ibn 'Ali al-Baqir] (peace be upon him) has said, "Allah, the Noble and Grand shall not accept the Hajj or 'Umrah of a person who performs them using haraam wealth."

Biharul Anwar, Volume 96, Page 120

22 - Etiquette of the Hajj

It has been narrated form Abi Ja'far [Imam Muhammad Ibn 'Ali al-Baqir] (peace be upon him) that he said, "It does not matter if one visits this House if he does not possess three traits: Cautiousness (Wara') which prevents him from sinning; forbearance which helps him rule over his anger; and good interaction with those who are with him."

23 - Exemptions for Women in the Hajj Rites

It has been narrated from Abi Ja'far [Imam Muhammad Ibn 'Ali al-Baqir] (peace be upon him) that he said, "The following things are not necessary for women to perform in the Hajj: women do not have to pronounce the Talbiyyah (Labbayk Allahumma Labbayk) out loud; nor do they have to perform the Harwalah (act of briefly running) between the mountains of al-Safa and al-Marwah; the rubbing of the hand on the Hajral Aswad; entering into the Ka'bah; and the shaving of the head ; instead, they only cut some of their hair."

Biharul Anwar, Volume 96, Page 189

24 - Distribution of Mercy in the Vicinity of the Ka'bah

It has been narrated from Abi 'Abdillah [Imam Ja'far Ibn Muhammad as-Sadiq] (peace be upon him) that he said, "For Allah, the Noble and Grand, there are 120 parts of Mercy around the Ka'bah.  From these, sixty are for those performing the tawaaf around the Ka'bah; forty are for those performing the prayers; and twenty are for those just looking (at the Ka'bah)."

Abu 'Abdillah [Imam Ja'far Ibn Muhammad as-Sadiq] (peace be upon him) said, "Isma'il buried his mother (Hajrah) in the (area) of the Hijr and then built a semi-circle shaped wall over it so that people would not step upon her grave."

It has been narrated from Abi 'Abdillah [Imam Ja'far Ibn Muhammad as-Sadiq] (peace be upon him) who said, "It is recommended that a person does the tawaaf of the Ka' bah three hundred and sixty times - the number of days in a year and if one is unable to do so, then one should perform the tawaaf as much as possible."

30 - Supplication in 'Arafat

It has been narrated from al-Ridha [Imam 'Ali Ibn Musa] (peace be upon him): "Surely my father, Abu Ja'far (peace be upon him) used to say, 'There is not a single righteous person or sinner who makes a sojourn at the Mountains of 'Arafat and calls upon Allah there, except that Allah answers his call.  For a righteous person (his call is answered) in regards to the needs and necessities of the life of this temporal world and the next life; while a sinner (is answered) in regards to the affairs of the temporal world (only)."

It has been narrated from Abi 'Abdillah [Imam Ja'far Ibn Muhammad as-Sadiq] (peace be upon him) in regards to the stoning of the Shaitan that he said, "For every stone that a pilgrim throws, a major sin, which would have led to his destruction, is averted from him."

It has been narrated from 'Ali Ibn Ja'far from his brother Musa [Ibn Ja'far al-Kadhim] (peace be upon him) that he said, "I asked (my brother) in regards to the philosophy of the stoning of the pillar and why this was enacted."  He replied to me, "Because Iblis, the despised, appeared to Ibrahim (peace be upon him) in the place where the pillar is and Ibrahim (peace be upon him) threw stones at him and thus, this act became a Sunnah (practice) in the Hajj."

It has been narrated from Abi Ja'far [Imam Muhammad Ibn 'Ali al-Baqir] (peace be upon him) from his father [Imam 'Ali ibnil Husain Zainul 'Aabidin (peace be upon him)] that he said, "al-Hasan and al-Husain used to ask that their hair (shaved on the 'Eid day in Hajj) be buried in Mina."

It has been narrated from Prophet Muhammad (blessings of Allah be upon him and his family) that he said, "A person seeing (visiting) my grave deserves my intercession.  And a person who visits me after my death is like a person who visited me during my lifetime."

37 - Bidding Farewell to the Ka'bah

It has been narrated from Ibrahim Ibn Mahmud that he said, "I saw al-Ridha [Imam 'Ali Ibn Musa] (peace be upon him) bid farewell to the House and when he intended to make his way out from the Masjid, he fell into prostration (Sajdah), stood up, faced the Ka'bah and then said:

أَللٌّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَنْقَلِبُ عَلى أَنْ لاٌ إِلٌهَ إِلاَّ اللٌّهُ.

"O' Allah!  I have reinforced my belief that there is no entity worthy of worship except Allah."

38 - Importance of the Ziyarat of the Ahlul Bayt after Hajj

It has been narrated from Abi Ja'far [Imam Muhammad Ibn 'Ali al-Baqir] (peace be upon him) that: "People have been commanded to come and perform the tawaaf around these rocks (the Ka'bah) and then come to us (the Ahlul Bait) and declare their submission and offer their help to us."

Biharul Anwar, Volume 96, Page 374

39 - Welcoming People who Return from Hajj

It has been narrated from Abi 'Abdillah [Imam Ja'far Ibn Muhammad as-Sadiq] (peace be upon him) that: "A person who meets one who has returned from Hajj and shakes his hand (welcomes him back) is like a person who rubbed his hand on the Hajrul Aswad."

Biharul Anwar, Volume 96, Page 384

40 - Walimah - Feeding Others After Returning From the Hajj

The Messenger of Allah (blessings of Allah be upon him and his family) has said, "Walimah is only in five occasions: in the 'Urs, Khurs, 'Idhar, Wikar and the Rikaz – 'Urs is when a person gets married; and Khurs is when a child is born; and 'Idhar is on the circumcision of a baby boy; and Wikar is when a person purchases a house; and Rikaz is when a person returns from Hajj."

As Salaamu Alaykum Sisters and Brothers,

Thanks to All Mighty Allah (swt), Br. Shu'ayb and his family have survived the earthquake but desperately need our help.

Please find below a quick update about their situation related from Br. Amin,

"I just spoke to Br Shu'ayb  and he is alive.. His house is destroyed, the
Al- Mahdi center is destroyed and 7 children died.. Most of the shia families are homeless... we have about 20 families in Port au Prince and more in Leogane, so about 100 to 150 Shi'as.    They need clothes and food on a regular basis but he mentioned that money contribution is best at the moment because transport to Haiti is difficult.

The western union office close to his house is not opened yet.. the closest one is 2 hours away... Money gram is easy and everywhere... If everybody is OK wih it.. I could gather funds and send the money gram to him..... He wanted to make sure that we call him with the reference number and name when the money is sent .. "

I spoke with Br. Shu'ayb last night and in addition to money, they need tents (as they are living on the street), medicine, food and clothing.

Right now the banks are closed, but should resume operations on Monday morning for a few hours / day.

Br. Amin and Path of Light (Montreal non-profit organization) have agreed to coordinate efforts to collect money and send it to Haiti, so that Br.. Shu'ayb is not being inundated with a lot of calls nor drawing suspicion towards himself.  We want to ensure that his physical safety remains intact, as there is a lot of violent crimes being committed.

US Residents can donate by sending money to Br. Amin Toussaint:

BANK OF AMERICA
ROUTING #: 021000322

THE CONDITION OF SHIAS BEFORE REAPPERANCE

Our Master, the Chief of the Believers, Imam Ali Ibne Abi Talib (A.S.) says:

“The world is a prison for the believers and heaven for disbeliveers.”

The Holy Infallibles (A.S.), in their traditions and narration, have often condemned love for this material world.  They (A.S.), in their traditions and narration, have often condemned love for this material world.  They (a.s.) have warned the believers, time and again with words like “the heart which is filled with love of this world can never attain the love for the hereafter.”  The reason being that man is so fascinated by looking at the adornments of this world that he forgets his True Creator his objective and purpose of life.  Therefore Imam Ali (A.S.) says:
“One who is engrossed in this world, long hopes have indeed deceived him remember death will be sudden, and grave is the real chest for (humans) deeds.”

But man continues to tread the path on committing sins conveniently forgetting that he has to face Allah (s.t.).  A Believer on the other hand, in order to save himself from these delusions controls his desires, supresses his basic instincts and strives not to let the material world deviate him from his goal, bearing in the process unlimited difficulties and calamities.  Therefore, the life of a believer has been compared to a prison.  These facts stand applicable to all ages and eras.  But as for the last days or the last time (i.e. the period before the reappearance of Imam Al Mahdi (a.t.f.s.) there has always been a special mention.  This is the time when injustice and tyranny will reach its pinnacle. As it has been narrated from reliable tradition, “like the world will be filled with injustice and tyranny.”
“This will be the time when none will be safe from its troubles and mischief.”
(Surah Anfaal, ver 25)

In this period of tumult, the conditions of the believers will change from bad to worse.  Our rightly guided Imams (A.S.) have forewarned us about this time, its conditions and how one should act in it to be safe.

Come let us study the traditions which have mentioned the conditions of Shias in these times.

First Condition: Detest and Enmity

The narrator says that I heard Imam Ali (A.S.) saying:
“What will be your condition when you will neither be with any Imam to guide you nor any other visible leader.  In this condition, you (O Shias) will show enmity towards each other.”
(Kitab al-Ghaibah Shaikh Tusi, pg 207)

Second Condition: Disputes

During this time, the disputes will reach a magnitude that even the Shias and believers will not be spared.  Ameerul Momineen Ali (A.S.) told Malik bin Zumrah:
“O Malik bin Zumrah! What will be your condition when there would be terrible controversies among our Shias,” saying this Imam (A.S.) interlaced the fingers of both his hands to show how the Shias would be involved in disputes. The gravity of this unsoundness is such that people even fight and dispute in a serious matter like the mourning of Imam Husain (a.s.). Some people seem to have adopted the profession of creating divisions taking pleasure to see the believers fight amongst themselves, in total contrast to Divine Command:

“And hold firmly to the rope of Allah (love of Ahlul Bait A.S.) together and do not be divided (amongst yourself”)

In these disputes that have delayed the reappearance of the Light of the Universe, our Imam (a.t.f.s).   As He (a.t.f.s.) has said in Tawqee (communication) to Sheikh Mifeed (r.a.):
“Had your hearts been united and had you lived in unison our meeting with you would not have been delayed.”

“By Allah, the One in whose absolute control is my life, you will not see Shias except that some of them will spit on the face of others and some will be called liars.”

The significant point is that Imam Ali (A.S.) is swearing by Allah, sufficient enough to express the seriousness of the matter.  If we see the condition of Shia society today, we find the prophecies of Imam (A.S.) being actualized.  We accuse some people of not attending majlis in our Imambaras and Aashoor Khaanas and in retaliation, do not go to their majlis.  Sometimes the matters stoop to level of hurling abuses.  Whereas the Almighty Allah says “Whoever insults a believer, it is as if he has declared war against Me.”

Patience, forbearance, self control and ignoring minor mistakes – all these qualities are confined only to the books.

Maturity of character is rarely found, it is incumbent upon every believer to prevent any one who is trying to stir up trouble or create a controversy between two Shias or two groups.  Otherwise, we will be answerable to Imaam-e-Zamana (a.t.f.s).  We must remember that when the accursed Satan meets failures at all front he resorts to stirring disputes and controversies.

Third Condition:  Hardening of the hearts

One of the special characteristics of the human heart is that it keeps transforming and changing from one condition to another.  In fact, heart is known as ‘Qalb’ in Arabic due to this very reason.  Due to the prolonged occultation of our Imam (a.s.t.f.s.) many Shias will despair of reappearance.  This hopelessness and despair will lead to hardening of their hearts.

Firstly let us try to understand what “hardening of heart” means.  It refers to that condition when the heart refuses to accept reality and the person remains adamant in his stand.  So much so that he even denies a reality which is more clear than the bright sun.  Thus in the last era, the people will begin to deny the pure existence of Imam-e-Zamana (a.t.f.s.)

Now let us see what sins cause the hardening of hearts.  Excessive sins, love of this world, forgetting death and not remembering it, uttering and listening to useless talks (words) like MUSIC, etc., trying to please some wealthy people, leaving worship, being engrossed in the accumulation of wealth and property, stinginess, severing off the ties of relationship, breaking promise, etc are some sins which  result in the hardening of hearts
.
One the other hand, those people who remain immune from the hardening of hearts during the period of occultation will be given a place of adjacent to the abode of the Holy Infallibles (a.s.) in paradise.

Fourth condition: Helplessness

Ibne Uqba has quoted Imam Ali (A.S.), who said, “O Shias! I see that you are busy in search of grass like camels, but are unable to find it.”
(Ghaibat-e-Nomani pg 192 Tradition 3)

The time of occultation is a period of gloom and despair.  The condition of Shias will be such that they will be running helter-skelter, sometimes to the West and other to the East.   They will hasten towards water only to find it to be a mirage.  After being utterly bereft of hope, they will realize that only thing can save them and solve all their difficulties except their Master’s (Imam) at.f.s. Reappearance.  The Shias will call with a sinking heart.
“Hasten! Hasten! O my Master! Mater of Age!”
Therefore, we find the traditions exhorting the people, “Pray more for the reappearance, for in it is your salvation.”

Fifth condition: Under the Yoke of Oppression

The Almighty Allah (s.t.) as mentioned in the Holy Quran,
“And We desired to bestow a favor upon those who were deemed weak in the land, and make them the Imams, and make them their heirs.”
(Surah Qasas, Vers 5)

This vserse shows that in the last era, the Shias will be under the yoke of oppression; they shall be rendered helpless.  The atrocities committed upon them will shatter them. But they will not discard their faith.  The entire world will try to debase and deride them.  Neither they will be respected nor be given any preference.  On the other hand, the evil will be preferred and honored in the Society.  They will be surrounded by the jaws of injustice from every side.

Akrama ibn Saase says that I heard Ameerul Momineen (A.S.) said:

“These Shias will not achieve freedom till their condition is like the goats before a hungry and ferocious lion unable to decide who to attack.  Neither shall they have any superiority nor would they have any refuge from their helplessness. There will be clamor to surround them and oppress them to the maximum possible extent.  Being treated like orphans and destitute, they will be so oppressed that they will scream, O Allah! It is unbearable!”

Then the Almighty will solve all their problems through His Proof.

Under such cirumstances those people who remain steadfast in their religion will be few.  We can remain safe from such corrpution and turmoil and achieve success in these tests and trials.  We must recite DUA-E-GHAREEQ (Prayer of the Drowning), also known as DUA-E-HAREQ (Prayer of the Burning), during or after the prayers, the Dua begins with the phrase, ‘O ALLAH! O BENEFICIENT! O MERCIFUL! O THE ONE WHO TRANSFORMS THE HEARTS! MAKE MY HEART STEADFAST UPON YOUR RELIGION!”    AAMEEN

LET US ALL PRAY FOR THE REAPPERANCE OF OUR BELOVED IMAM-E-ZAMANA (A.T.F..S) TO BRING LOVE AND TRANQUILITY IN OUR COMMUNITY -AMEEN

As-Salaam Alaikum,

Welcome to the third issue of Islam in 60 Seconds in the year 2010. This week presented some positive developments, as Shias were featured prominently (and positively I might add) in print articles all over the internet.

The Imam Mahdi Association of Marjaeya (IMAM) was examined by the AP, and picked up by the Washington Post! I.M.A.M., the Imam Mahdi Association of Marjaeya, is the liaison office in America for Grand Ayatollah Sistani, and this article does a good job examining what the liaison office does on a day to day basis. Please make sure to check it out!

In other promising news, Islam continues to expand in America, with the opening of Alaska's first halal grocery store.

As always, I thank you for taking the time to read Islam in 60 Seconds.

Masalama,
Rahat Husain

US Shiites tentatively make a home in America

Washington Post

Shiites comprise less than 15 percent of the 1.5 billion Muslims in the world and an even smaller percentage of the Muslims in the U.S. Within the wider Muslim world, they are often persecuted for their beliefs and way of worship. At the forefront of the effort is the nonprofit that Bahar al-Uloom helps represent, called I.M.A.M., which tells Shiites they can vote, participate in the 2010 U.S. Census and hold public office without abandoning their faith.
Professor Tariq Ramadan Now Allowed into US

FOX News

The State Department has cleared the way for the return to the United States of two prominent Muslim scholars once accused of having ties to terrorism, a spokesman said Wednesday. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton has signed orders enabling the re-entry of professors Tariq Ramadan of Oxford University in England and Adam Habib of the University of Johannesburg in South Africa once they obtain required admittance documents, department spokesman Darby Holladay said.

3 explosions rock holy Shiite city in Iraq

Washington Post

Three explosions ripped through the city of Najaf on Thursday, just hundreds of yards from one of the holiest sites in Shiite Islam. Two homemade bombs detonated just five minutes apart about 5:30 p.m. in an open-air fish-and-vegetable market. Police found another bomb inside a garbage truck. As they tried to defuse it, a bomb in a car parked nearby exploded, ripping through the crowd, said police Capt. Hadi al-Najafi.
Iraq list of excluded candidates has more Shi'ites

Washington Post

More Shi'ite candidates than Sunnis have been barred from Iraq's election because of links to Saddam Hussein's Baath party, politicians said on Wednesday, potentially defusing a row that threatened to reopen sectarian wounds. A decision by a panel to ban 511 candidates under a law outlawing the Baath party outraged many Sunnis, who dominated Iraq for more than two decades under Saddam, and raised fears the legitimacy of the March 7 election could be undermined.

China Restores Text Messaging in Cut-off Muslim Region

China has restored mobile text message services in a Western province where they were suspended for months following unrest. Limited Internet access is also returning to the region. Residents in the Xinjiang region, which is home to China's Uighur ethnic minority, can now send up to 20 text messages a day but are still barred from making international phone calls unless they register with authorities, the official China Daily newspaper said Monday. China cut off virtually all Internet, text message and international call services in the region after deadly ethnic riots there claimed nearly 200 lives last July.
Drone Attacks on Pakistan and Blowback from Obama's War
Dissident Voice

As of January 17, there had been 10 drone attacks on Pakistan so far this year. There were 44 in all of 2009. One of those in August killed Baitullah Mehsud, 35 year old leader of Tehreek-e Taliban Pakistan (TTP), a local group inspired by the Taliban of Afghanistan and conjured into being by U.S. bombing of both countries. Now the main target is Mehsud's successor, 30ish Hakimullah Mehsud. If and when he is killed (along with some civilians, if precedent is followed), there will be another TTP leader, another main target for the drone strikes. And when he's killed, another. Although the Afghan Taliban has officially distanced itself from al-Qaeda, offering last month to provide a "legal guarantee" that it would not intervene in foreign countries after resuming power, this is precisely the cycle of violence al-Qaeda wishes to encourage throughout the Muslim world.

Mauritanian Muslim leaders ban female genital mutilation

AP

A group of 30 Mauritanian Muslim leaders have issued a religious edict banning female genital mutilation in the West African country. Cheikh Ould Zein, head of the Forum of Islamic Thought, says the scholars believe the Qur'an does not endorse cutting young girls' genitals to limit their sexual activity as women. He said Monday that the leaders also agreed to preach against the practice at their mosques.
Israel and Egypt Continue to Squeeze Gaza Truth Out

Two weeks ago, almost 2,000 internationals came to Egypt and Gaza in a massive show of civil society's support for the people of Gaza. Nearly 1,400 persons representing 44 countries in the Gaza Freedom March and over 500 persons with the Viva Palestina Convoy let the people of Gaza know of their concern for the tragic consequences of their governments' support of the Israeli and Egyptian blockade. Yet, two weeks later, with the apparent approval of governments (United States, European Community and Canada) that support the quarantine, blockade and siege of Gaza, Israel and Egypt have tightened the squeeze to wring the lifeblood out of the people of Gaza.

No wealth is more useful than intelligence and wisdom; no solitude is more horrible than when people avoid you on account of your vanity and conceit or when you wrongly consider yourself above everybody to confide and consult; no eminence is more exalting than piety; no companion can prove more useful than politeness; no heritage is better than culture; no leader is superior to Divine Guidance; no deal is more profitable than good deeds; no profit is greater than Divine Reward; no abstinence is better than to retrain one’s mind from doubts (about religion); no virtue is better than refraining from prohibited deeds; no knowledge is superior to deep thinking and prudence; no worship or prayers are most sacred than fulfillment of obligations and duties; no religious faith is loftier than feeling ashamed of doing wrong and bearing calamities patiently; no eminence is greater than to adopt humility; no exaltation is superior to knowledge; nothing is more respectable than forgiveness and forbearance; no support and defense are stronger than consultation.

Thought provoking answers

Imam Ali (A.S.) declared “Ask me before I am gone for your site”.  He once replied to a group of ten learned men, who said,” We seek your permission for putting a question to you” Imam Ali (A.S.) replied” You are at perfect liberty”.
They said:” Of knowledge and wealth, which is better and why? Please give a separate answer to each of us. Imam Ali (A.S.) answered in ten parts:
1.     Knowledge is the legacy of the Prophets; wealth is the Inheritance of the Pharaohs
     Therefore, knowledge is better than wealth
2.     You are to guard your wealth but knowledge guards you.  Therefore, knowledge  is better
3.     A man of wealth has many enemies, while a man of knowledge has many friends.  Hence, knowledge is better.
4.     Knowledge is better because it increases with distribution, while wealth decreases by the act.
5.     Knowledge is better because a learned man is apt to be generous while a wealthy person is apt to be miserly
6.     Knowledge is better because it cannot be stolen while wealth can be stolen.
7.     Knowledge is better because time cannot harm knowledge but wealth rusts in course of time and wears away
8.     Knowledge is better because it is boundless while wealth is limited and you can keep account of it.
9.     Knowledge is better because it illuminates the mind while wealth is apt to blacken it.
10. Knowledge is better because knowledge induced thehumanity in our Prophet to say to GOD’ we worship thee as we are your servants,’ while wealth engendered in Pharaoh and Nimrod the vanity which made them claim god-head?
 SO SEEK KNOWLEDGE, PEACE AND
                  HEALTH WILL FOLLOW.
