UMAA Press Release:

Terrorism in Karachi

It is with great sadness that we received the news of terrorism targeted towards the Shi'a community of Karachi.  This spillover seems to be connected to the Quetta acts of terrorism.

The Shi'a community of the U.S. still remains very disappointed in seeing no visible firm action either by the federal government of Pakistan, the Sindh government or the local law enforcement agencies.

This genocide will have devastating effects not only on the affected families, but the Shi'a community at large in Pakistan, as well as internationally and will become a major human rights issue in the international community.

We urge strongly to the government of Pakistan to take the immediate and swift action to apprehend the perpetrators and to curb their activities immediately.  We also recommend strongly to the lawmakers of Pakistan to legislate and enact laws specifically for this terrorism so that the terrorists could be effectively prosecuted in the courts of Pakistan.

Our hearts and souls go out with prayer, for all the persons murdered and the bereaved families.

UMAA is taking steps for political advocacy for the Shi'a genocide in Pakistan, Bahrain and other countries of the Shi'a minority.  The blueprint of this advocacy plan will be presented and discussed in the forthcoming UMAA Convention 2013 on Memorial Day Weekend in Detroit, Michigan.  Any comments, suggestions and recommendations related to advocacy can be sent to UMAA at info@umaamerica.net.

With Dua and Prayers,

Dr. Syed Ethisham Abidi, UMAA President & Dr. Parvez Shah, UMAA General Secretary
